Nice bucks
-
No no no, I wasnt taking offense to your post, it just reminded me slightly of guys that DO give people crap for being picky. I have had a couple of guys that I used to hunt with tell me to never hunt with them again because I let a few fork horns and basket racks walk right by my stand. As far as my little 8 on my wall, I wouldnt shoot that deer again, Id let him go. It was my first buck, I was just using it as an example that Im not a holier than thou type of guy just because Im selective now. Wildcats, Im about 20 mins south of Rochester.

Has anyone started hanging any stands yet ?
WNYBuckHunter replied to fasteddie's topic in General Hunting
My ladder stand stays up, but I was scoping out a new stand site over the weekend. I have some clearing to do to get a stand in there, but I think it will be worth it. I will also be taking a ladder out to the tree where my ladder stand is and get up there to check all of the straps, etc. Its just about time to start trimming lanes as well. -

Of course the horse is out of the barn now. But then that doesn't mean that we simply pull the doors off the barn. Honestly, I have no idea why you would defend this action. When someone thumps me on the head, I tend to react differently than just sitting there inviting them to do it again.....lol. Or maybe even do it better ..... : Really ...... I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to access that info ..... until now. Now it's real easy isn't it? As far as personal info, I would guess the fact that I have a pistol might qualify as that. At least it should be. What really concerns me is just what did this person (or organization) have in mind when they went to all of the trouble of filing the FOI petition to obtain the info and then set up the web-site to display it to the public. I can sit here and imagine all kinds of dastardly uses that some of the wackos of this world might put that info to use for (Some of which MrVJP listed above). But this guy obviously had something a little more concrete in mind. Doc Who is defending it? I just dont see it being personal info that you own a pistol. There is nothing that anyone can do to you because of it, and if someone chooses to take the time to look through the list and not let their kids play with my kids because I have my pistol permit (which doesnt mean you even own a pistol BTW), then F them, they arent worth my time. Employers can get this info when they do a background check, they dont need to get it from that web site. On top of it all, alot of you guys have no problem posting pictures and descriptions of your various weapons on websites, pictures of your family and friends, homes and everything else, yet you complain about that list and say its personal info. Do you really think you are anonymous on here? Hell no you arent. If someone needs to get info on who posted what, they can. If some criminal thinks its a good idea to break into a gun owner's home, then they deserve the bullet they get because they are stupid. -

Doc, you arent going to ever get that list back, its already done. If you want to do something about it, then fine, but seriously, there is no reason to start being chicken little. And like Ive said before, it gives no real personal info about you. If anyone wanted to know if you had a istol permit, they can get that info fairly easily, even before the list was posted on the internet. -
Lol ..... We do hear a lot of that, don't we? Everytime I hear someone declaring to the world how they hold out for this and hold out for that, I always wonder just what are they really trying to say. Is it really just another way of trying to convince the world that they are such a great hunter that they don't need to harvest those little bucks. Sometimes it does kind of have that ring to it, doesn't it? I feel much more comfortable around those that quietly set their own goals and challenges and don't spend a whole lot of time bragging to the world what those challenges and goals are. Sometimes those quiet ones will surprise you with what's hanging on their wall. Doc What irritates me are guys that give me crap for being selective in the bucks I shoot. Just because Im selective, doesnt mean Im "hollier than thou", and just because I dont agree with guys shooting small bucks doesnt mean Im going to tell them they shoudnt do it either. Well, unless they were hunting my land. I try to hold out for bigger bucks, which is why I dont have that many under my belt. Its a personal choice and makes a challenging sport even more of a challenge to me. I also believe that if I shoot the little guys, I wont have a chance to shoot that monster if he walks by. The only deer I have on my wall is a little 74 inch basket rack 8 point, my first buck. Hes a trophy to me.

There was a stand of woods and an open field, you can see it in the video.
-
You can see a video of them shooting it at 200 yards with different slugs on separate targets. They used a lead sled, but the gun was not locked into position, and the guy shot prone position on a concrete slab. While Im skeptical on alot of things, the video seemed pretty straight forward.

I see coons and possums all the time up here. Its not that uncommon to see them in the daylight.
-
I saw on Facebook that they were going to be there. Thats too long of a drive for me to go see hunting celebs though.

Right. No reason to freak out about it too much. -
No Guns Allowed
WNYBuckHunter replied to vipertech's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It depends on what kind of a facility you are talking about. There are laws about where you can and cant carry even with a permit. -
Just put the posted signs about 8 feet up, they wont be able to tear them down easily.
-
Right! They do make battery powered blacklights.

What to plant on a large trail?
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
You could always trim the overhead branches out some to allow more light in. -
What Attracts The Best In Your Area?
WNYBuckHunter replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Try sugar beets and turnips.Mix them with winter rye and you should have a good plot for all hunting season. -
I usually see around the same numbers as burmjohn, I wont say there are that many in range, or that walk into a shooting lane, but I do see alot of deer.
-
Awesome pics. Ive been waiting on a deer carcass near my dads property, so I could stake it and put a cam on it. They usually get hit by cars frequently around there, but not lately.

If we were not "forced" to have a permit, the government could then concentrate on all their inside criminal activity. So you dont agree with permits either? Look, I have a situation going with someone I know trying to get their permit as we speak. He got denied, and rightfully so. Dont get me wrong, I like the guy and he means well, but I dont feel comfortable with him having a concealed carry permit. He is on medication and sees a shrink. He is one of those guys that is obsessive about things and depending on if his meds are right, has a tendency of flying off the handle about things that just plain dont warrant it. I am glad he didnt get his permit, and hope like hell that the decision sticks when he goes in to appeal it. That right there is exactly why we have the permits, and in this case, the system worked.

LOL. Maybe get ahold of some of that blood spray that makes it glow, then carry a black light.

Well, if you want a pig that looks like Old McDonald's farm pig, then just go to Old McDonald's farm and pay him to let the pig out of the pen and shoot him right there. I'm sure it would cost you a lot less and you wouldn't need to drive all the way to PA for the shot. Old McDonald might even sing his song for you. An oink, oink, here and an oink, oink there. E-I-E-I OOOOOH! ;D Just pulling your leg here, but I would think a hunter would at least want to shoot an animal that looks somewhat like the real thing. They look exactly like wild hogs. LOL Either way, the way I look at these places is that its just something different, and Id kinda rather go kill the pork myself rather than buy it from the grocery store. Where are you gonna buy a full pig for $350? Really, I dont see $350 as exorbitant, now if youre talking what some of the fanced ranches ask for elk or deer, etc, then yes, but not in this case. Oh, and its not really hunting, I see it as a shoot.

Thats funny, I havent seen one of those little old ATCs in a long time.
-
If they really worked that well, the police and forensics teams would use them. They dont. I have read alot about them on the internet and from what I read, they dont work as well as they are made out to.

Ill be sending off for more info as well, looks like a good group.
