  1. Thanks Paula! I've never heard of them. I will check them out. cdmckane Thanks I was actually in there this past Thursday. They had some hats but nothing nice. A bunch of over-priced junk and shady bradys. They used to have some nice stuff, that's why I drove down there, but not anymore.
  2. Yes I'm familiar with on-line. Plenty of places. But most hat companies have a $20 shipping fee and I'm not coughing that up twice if the hat doesn't fit. I was hoping someone here would know of a tack shop with a good hat selection near Syracuse.
  3. Hi Guys and gals, For those of you who don't know I participate in cowboy action shooting. (that me in the purple shirt btw). I need to get a new cowboy hat pronto. Unfortunately shops in New York that sell cowboy hats are few and far between. I'm hoping that someone here knows of a shop that sells nice high quality cowboy hats in either northern NY or within an hours drive of Syracuse. Now I don't want the rodeo style hats that they sell at Tractor Supply or (gag) shady bradys. I'm hoping that maybe one or two of you here who own horses might know of a tack shop with good selection. Thanks .
  4. Dad was insistent that we not do a shoulder mount. He didn't want us spending that kind of money then to have him kick the bucket next week. His words.
  5. First a little back story. Last fall my 80 year old dad had the opportunity to kill his second biggest buck ever in a large snow storm. Afterwards we talked about how to preserve the memory and I volunteered to try a euro mount. After several months of research on here and on the web, I finally got it done. It was really special to do this for my dad. I got the plaque from Springbrook Laser Engraving www.springbrooklaser.com. They are super nice people to work with. Here is dad after he shot the buck After we got him home Here is the plaque when it arrived. Here is the finished mount with the skull attached. Here is the three of us presenting dad with his trophy.
  6. In the words of George Strait, " I saw God today". Congratulations!!!!

  8. I have one word for you.... funnels. Find your funnel and set-up there.
  9. Does the SafeAct allow family members to transfer a pistol from one permit to another? My dad had a Colt Diamondback .22 in mint cond. in the original box. I want to put it in my collection before he passes away.
  10. Trail cam pic contest winner for sure!
  11. Hi Guys and gals, I'm shopping for a red dot scope for a 20 gauge slug gun. I haven't bought a red dot scope since the 90's so I am totally out of touch with what is new and better that most. So for those of you who use red dot scopes on slug guns, what are you having success with? Thanks
  12. Now they will have to re-think the whole plan. With NYS sporting license sales plummeting anywhere from 2-4 million dollars last year they cannot afford to make changes that could possibly alienate anymore NYS sportsmen.
  13. The brand I have the most respect for right now is SpyPoint. Moderate cost, tough as nails in cold weather, amazing battery life, great photos.
  14. I used to be a hard core Realtree guy until they got rid of Realtree hardwoods. I get busted all the time in the new AP stuff. For October I use whatever will blend in best. Once November rolls around and the gun season starts I have found this works the best.
  15. I use the the 100 gr. Mags. They are an amazing broadhead and they are scary sharp. Every deer I have hit was a complete pass through. One time I hit a doe on a quartering to, I hit a little left. The Trick passed through the front shoulder, down the middle and exited out the opposite hind quarter. I will never use any other broadhead for deer.
  16. Not sure what happened after that hard winter but ever since I have had a serious mole problem. Little mounds of dirt everywhere and my lawn looks polka dot. Friends tell me to poison the grubs they eat. Can anyone suggest a good brand of poison or a better way of dealing with these destructive critters? Who here has dealt with them before?
  17. * Remove the prohibition of using DMAP during the September portion of the early bow season in the Northern Zone; WTH? Didn't they just remove the early 3 day September bow season??
  18. It made our local news. http://www.wwnytv.com/news/local/SLC-Woman-Tasered-By-Border-Agents-in-Confrontation-303073091.html
  19. I came here looking for such a thread. We went out on Saturday the 2nd day of season. We were hunting near Hamilton in 7M. We were in the woods at sunrise and hunted till 11am and we hunted 3 different properties. In that time we never heard a single bird gobble, we saw a single bird, nor did we hear a gunshot. If you know the area, you know about the rolling hills and you can hear gunshots for miles. I have never had an opening (2nd day) day like this. Very depressing I guess this hard winter was a little too hard on the birds. Populations have been dropping rapidly the past 10 years but I never thought I would see this.
  20. Oooooh Yeeeah!!! I tried skinning one in the house. Hit that scent gland and fumigated the whole house. Worse than skunk in my opinion.
  21. I have had nothing but success with TruFire releases.
  22. I bought myself an Undertaker Tube many yeeeeears ago for myself and have not shopped for one since. Now I find myself buying one for my daughter Mossberg Bantam 20 gauge. With all of the new models in choke tubes, do you have any recommendations on what choke tube I should buy for her?
