  1. You are so right. This is my last year coaching and I am enjoying every minute of it. Saw nothing this am until the walk back when I kicked up either a button or lone Doe. Back this pm for a till dark sit while pressure drops. Busted by tiny doe and smaller fawn on way in. Given my quota of one sighting per sit I should probably turn around. [emoji3] Good luck to all. 2. Out for a quick sit before coaching soccer in 3g. Dead calm. Ground littered with acorns. They are apparently not on the menu. Congrats to all that connected and good luck to those who are out there. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  3. Perfect morning in 3g. Out for a quick sit before helping all day at my sons' cross country race at the high school. Good luck all. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  4. Out this am on private in 3g. North wind and not as cold as predicted. Rain overnight made it a quiet walk in. Something came through just after sunrise. Didn't see the head but small body. Crossed the trail I used to walk in and likely caught my scent. Blew and ran off. That was it till 830 and I split for work. Also, either the worst turkey caller in the world thinks season starts a little early or an old hen was hammering away just after dawn about 100 yds from me. It was comical to hear. We all try to sound perfect when we call for turkeys but it is amazing what bad turkey callers actual turkeys would be. Heading back out around 4. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  5. If you ever change your mind, let me know and I will send you a link on volunteering. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  6. Same here. That's why we foster their breed dogs. We take care of them while they are being bred and once they retire from the program we can adopt them. The people that do the puppy raising are the real hard workers in the program. We just need to keep up with the training and make sure the broods get enough exercise. 7. They are always looking for volunteer puppy raisers. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  8. They are all evaluated for guide / service dogs over the next year. Those that make the grade go into training and then their careers as working dogs. Those that don't make the grade go into the Guiding Eyes pet adoption pool. I think there is something like a three year wait to adopt one of those. They are spectacular dogs, even those that wash out.
  9. Just got our weekly batch of photos. Pups are doing well and mom looks great.
  10. Doe family came in around 530 munching on acorns. Picked a fat one out of the crowd. Tried to draw when she was behind a tree. She froze with vitals covered by the tree. What seemed like minutes but was likely thirty seconds took its toll and I had to let down. She blew and took the rest of the herd off with her. Good excitement to end the day, especially after watching chipmunks only for the majority of the day. Good luck and be safe to all out there the rest of the week. I am probably not back out till Saturday. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  11. Out in 3g sitting acorns. As you said bumper crop of chipmunks and that's it. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  12. Received a call from the whelping kennel this am. She had 10 puppies, two were still born, so eight surviving. Seven girls and one boy. Two yellows and the remainder black labs. I'll post photos up as soon as I get them. Mom is healthy and a great mother to her new pups. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  13. Yeah. She is a guiding eyes brood dog and they take the broods back for breeding and whelping. It's like a maternity ward for dogs. She stays there to give birth and stays with the pups until weaning is done. Then they start training and she comes home. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  14. We dropped our dog off at the whelping kennel today. She is scheduled for a Sept 26 due date. She has at least 6 pups in her that hopefully make the grade to become guide / service dogs. She was doing great with this litter, but was pretty tired over the last week. Could barely get her to walk a half mile (she was doing three a day until mid last week). I'll post updates and photos on her / her pups progress.
  15. Remember I said salt water. Never done fresh. Salt water is distance on cast to cover more surface area and retrieve. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  16. When I first learned to fly fish (salt water), guy that taught me said "forget that river runs through it sh*t, fish don't care what your cast looks like". Best advice I ever got. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  17. Totally agree. My wife and I have yet to go to the memorial and struggle with that. Probably for two reasons. First, I am not sure even after 18 years we could handle it. Second, I think I probably would lose my mind seeing someone sell I Love New York t-shirts or taking selfies around it. I go to mass instead. We were talking about it last night. Once she was allowed back into lower Manhattan for work, she still remembers the acrid aroma in the air. Never forget. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  18. I worked in midtown. Wife worked right next to the Staten island ferry. Second plane flew right over her head while she was getting coffee and into the south tower. She still freaks out during flyovers at sporting events. She was on last 4 train out of lower Manhattan for weeks. We met in midtown and then walked downtown to Union square to pickup my friends fiance who just started working at NYU the day before. Walked all the way from there to a buddy's apartment at 92 and CPW. First sat down to watch the news at about 2pm and realized the scope. Family friend was on first plane. High school classmate at Cantor Fitzgerald. Tough day to remember and grateful that I will be home to hug my kids tonight. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  19. Yup. The flatter the bow shoots, the smaller the impact that elevation distance has. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. Roger that. Bummer. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  21. Just saw this post. I think that Green Chimneys in Patterson has an injured bird of prey recovery program. Obviously too late now, but they might be able to help in the future if you run into the same. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  22. Trick I was taught was the following. Get in shooting position without a bow and hands at your sides. Pick your bow arm up so it's parallel to ground and palm facing down. Break your wrist back. That is the natural position to shoot your bow from. Elbow is rotated out of the way. If you bend your arm at the elbow from this position it should move horizontally not vertically. I was bringing the bow up while gripping it firmly then adjusting my palm. Grip probably wasn't right and elbow wasn't rotated. Doing that exercise prior to shooting got rid of string slap. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  23. Asian venison dumplings with soy based sauce and green beans. Lots of effort for the dumplings but worth it. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  24. When you are in a stand or at elevation for that matter, line of site distance is not the distance you should be ranging. For example, if you are 20 feet up in the tree, and a deer is 25 feet away from the base of the tree the effective distance is a 15 foot shot. Projectile drop due to gravity is only from the horizontal distance travelled not total distance. That difference grows the higher you are on the closer the deer is. The further away the deer is the less impact this has. I know there are altitude adjusting range finders out there, but I don't know how many use them. I only mention because I know a few people who didn't realize this and were missing completely or losing because of marginal hits at close range slam dunk shots from high up. 25. Go for the full Monty and just throw up in the back seat. Nice humid day will bring that smell back no matter what you do to it. I laugh when I think of the poor bastard driving our old otherwise mint condition Subaru Forester that bore the brunt of two kids in car seats wondering what that smell is.
