Live From The Woods 2019 Turkey Edition
tarheel95 replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
Met my step goal on the Fitbit today by noon. Not a gobble to be heard, again proving my hypothesis that turkeys in Putnam county have developed the ability to read the hunting regulations. Saw herds of deer which was promising, a few with little ones from last year in tow. Looks like the winter was an easy one. Fall should be promising. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

I sure wish deer season opened May 1. You would think the rut is on. Up at 430 and neighbors rooster was hammering away. Not a single response from a tom. Not a great sign. 5 miles walked so far in 3g public lands. Not a single gobble heard. Taking a rest doing some blind calling to see if I can bring one in. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

It's official. Turkey in 3g can read. Hit two previously active spots tonight. Not a single gobble. They know the season starts tomorrow. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

Wife texted me that a tom was gobbling around 1130 on our HOA land. I think it was the tom I roosted last night. Hopefully he hangs around two more days looking for love. If anything it is incentive to hang around a bit even if the morning starts out quiet. Maybe changing my plan up a bit for the opener. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -
Honestly, I don't really want to see andujar at third. Great bat but a butcher in the field. I never really liked gardy but at least the dude plays every day. Everyone else looks to be made of porcelain. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Out this am after rains cleared on public land in 3g. Very windy and tough to hear well. Got one confirmed shock gobble to a crow call and that's it. Have a good sense where this tom has been hanging. Hopefully he stays to the area for the opener. Heading out early from work on the 30th. Hope to roos one for the next morning. Good luck to all. My father joked that if Judge was Mantle he'd be out tonight with Whitey after today's game, showup hungover tomorrow, hit two home runs and beat out a drag bunt for a single. Judge will be out for two months if we are lucky. I think that some of it is the players are wound a bit tighter with muscle today, but the mindset is also a bit different. Koufax probably would have been shutdown after his first full season and on a pitch count with elbow tenderness. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Rogan had a real good podcast talking about addiction. The hypothesis was addiction was a manifestation of other psychological issues. As a dad of two teenagers, and one that doesn't drink any more, with addiction issues throughout my extended family, it's the scariest thing for me today. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

What sad days are these when a red Sox and Yankees fan are in agreement. On the positive side for Yankees fans, if you look at the 20th century, it started out the same way for the Sox and Yanks. Here's hoping my grandkids are cheering 2018 at Sox fans in 60 years or so. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

And chances are we would have found a way to get at least one one of DeGromm or Verlander. Instead we have Cashman trying to prove he is the smartest weenie with a stats book and Aaron Clueless Boone watching pitchers get rocked in the first inning of do or die playoff games. Sorry, I lied. I still had a rant in me. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I am a dyed in the wool Yankees fan and loathe the Sox. I have to admit, though, the past 20 years have been a disgrace for the franchise. If the Yankees don't go to the World Series this year it's the first time since the 1910s since that has happened in a decade and if they don't win it's the first time that has happened since the 80s. I am sick of it. I am tired of Cashman getting by with putting a mediocre product on the field and wearing four rings he had nothing to do with. Right now, a 39 year old recovering alcoholic back from rehab on a bum knee and a heart attack is our ace. The boss understood it was championship or nothing. No fan cares we won a 100 games last year. This generation of ownership needs to get back to the old days of the Bronx Zoo and beating the Sox brains in. We aren't the Mets, we are the frigging Yankees and let's get back to business. It's time to put some more flags up on the facade. Sorry rant over. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I have used moog's method with the oven door kept cracked open, my father bought a giant one from William Sonoma and I got a cheap small one from Cabela's. Jerky tasted the same out of all of them. The only advantage I saw was if you are making a HUGE batch (probably both hindquarters) the size of the giant one made it easier. Other than that, I'd go cheap or oven. Pete is the best. My father taught one of his brothers in high school so we had a good connection. Many a night we closed down the bar with him and Kevin. Are they still working there? Last time I was there was probably 15 years ago. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Thanks for the tip. If I ever pickup freshwater fishing I will give it a look. I have the license, but never interested me much. I'll wait for the stripers to clear the GW and make their way out east his summer. Salt only for me so far. Thanks again for the info. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I only saltwater fish, so apologies for a stupid question. How do you tell a trout is stocked versus wild? Just based on the location where you fish that you know it wasn't stocked or are there morphological differences between wild and stocked? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I'd like to tell you I saw the recipe on TV or learned it from cooking school. Truthfully, I saw the "cook" on a party boat make fluke tacos on the their flattop and I thought it was a great idea. Been doing it that way ever since. Not really a big fan of deep fried tilapia tacos that you get in most places. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
