Is ammo availability gonna affect your hunting season?
Bigfoot 327 replied to venus's topic in Deer Hunting
So exactly what are you looking for? Gauge, shell length and shot size. -
When localities were banning fracking Albany was all for home rule and many towns passed local laws to restrict fracking. Many localities have also passed local laws to restrict wind farms, but large projects can get go through a state process where locals have almost no say and the local laws are meaningless. Town of Howard residents are probably screwed.
-
Two kinds of people. support wind power: 1) investors 2) people that don't know much about it
-
More like 100% unsafe! Wind turbines throw ice from their blades which could easily kill someone. I can't imagine them within 500ft of a highway let alone on the median.
-
Welcome aboard. By the way, people that move south and then return north are referred to as "boomerangs". Not at all uncommon, cause Gramma wants to be near her Grandchildren.

Ruger American Predator with "Go Wild" pattern on stock. Cerakote finish on exposed metal parts. Topped with a Leupold VX-3I 3.5-10X40 also in Cerakote finish. To my knowledge Leupold doesn't make scopes in that finish. I bought the scope from Elk Country Arms. I believe they send their scopes to a Licensed US Cerakote holder for finishing. The rifle shoots better than I do. LOL -

When I was looking to buy a deer rifle last Fall, I first looked for ammo. I found 4 boxes (80 rounds) of 25.06 on the shelf at "regular" prices. Then I set out to buy the firearm. So, I am set for many deer seasons-in both NY and Florida. (Also have rounds for hogs and coyote). Since then I have managed to find ammo on the shelf at Camping World, WalMart and Rural King. In addition, one of my sons scored 3 boxes at Bass Pro for me. Had i purchased a more popular caliber, I am not sure I am not sure I could have purchased any short of paying wildly inflated internet prices. -
Is there a free app that shows property lines
Bigfoot 327 replied to luberhill's topic in General Chit Chat
A couple of years ago I walked my property with a forester. Don't know what app he had, but his app was awesome. He could tell within a foot which side of a property line a tree was located. -
8 foot Danners? Do you mean 8 inch Danners? Anyway, I viewed a You Tube video about scouting for deer in Florida. The guy in the videos hunts some forests with pockets of standing water. He claims to have been struck by water moccasins on 3 different occasions. He wears rubber boots (Lacrosse ?) and they protected him. However, his boots were taller than 8 inches. I would feel unprotected with low boots. His boots were closer to knee high.

I have read that fishers can attack turkeys at night while the turkeys are roosting. Not many escape (turkeys flying in the dark in the woods don't do well). Not many fox and zero coyotes can do that. I have also seen videos of fisher catching squirrels in trees. The squirrels rarely escape unless they enter a hole in the tree to small for the fisher to follow.

Not sure why it was posted in todays chuckle. Not even remotely funny. More like pathetic..........

Where To Start In The Hunt For A Covid Shot?
Bigfoot 327 replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
Here in Florida many of the pharmacies (including most Walmarts) advertise "appointment only". However, if you ask they have wait lists for people willing to show up on short notice. Vaccines thawed out and not used must be trashed (depends upon which vaccine) so they cover appointment no shows with the wait list. -

Alaska just decided to do away with priority groups. Vaccine is now available to anyone 16+ years old that wants it. Only a matter of time before vaccine is as easy to get as a flu shot. -

Cuomo announced this afternoon that the vaccine eligibility age will be lowered to 60 starting tomorrow March 10th. Go get 'em! -
Coyotes On The Move Across New York

I have a friend in northern PA that has given up on burying the wood chucks he shoots. Bears dig them up faster than he can bury them. -
Coyotes On The Move Across New York
Bigfoot 327 replied to Steve D's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
I am not an expert on yotes, since I don't actively predator hunt. However, I have taken several while deer hunting and a couple that made the mistake of trespassing on my lawn. None of the coyotes I have taken was worth anything for fur, everyone was infected with Mange. I question their protection as a furbearer when their hides often have no value. Also, our local population seemed to have rather dramatic swings in numbers. Years of scores of coyotes followed by a period of few if any coyotes. I blamed disease for these population swings. Don't know if it's the mange or maybe something like canine distemper. it was also my observation that a high fox population seemed to limit the abundance of coyotes by competing with them for food. I have a policy of not shooting fox unless sick but shooting every coyote on sight! -

Florida is dropping the age requirement to age 60 next Monday. Would not be surprised if NY follows suit soon....After all, NY is a leader. LOL -
I believe that you need a stocking permit to release fish into your pond. Also, NYS frowns on moving fish from one waterway to another. Personally, I don't care. BTW, pond looks good with water in it.

Some banks will not grant a house mortgage unless the mineral rights are included. When we sold our NY property in early 2019 we ran into this. My property had various gas leases dating back to 1975. The buyers attorney was totally anal regarding this and wanted signed affidavits on each leases attesting to the fact that each leases was over. Three different gas companies had drilled 5 different gas wells on the neighbor's over a ten year period (down the same shaft). Last well was 8,000 feet deep and extended laterally 3,000 feet. That one hit gas in the Trenton Black River formation. Well logs also show 90 feet of Marcellus Shale and 680 feet of Utica Shale at that location. Because NYS changed the rules the well was never brought into production and the gas company took a bath ripping out the well and restoring the site. I should be collecting gas royalties, but Albany would not let me.................

This is the plan folks
Bigfoot 327 replied to Grouse's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I find it ironic that Dems support gun control yet the stimulus payments which they also support have been used to purchase millions of addition firearms!
