  1. I plan on spraying my clover to kill grass and broad leaf using Butyrac and Clethodim both state that a Surfatant "crop oil" should be used for best results.. Now after doing a lil research i have found where it says adding a couple table spoons of mild dish soap and vegatable oil to the sprayer will do the same as a store bought crop oil. Any one know of this or have tried it. And no im not doing both sprays at the same time.
  2. from what i read u need between 45 and 60 days of no frost to get a decent turnip /radish crop so all depends.. like growalot said ww and wr will be your best bet quick to pop up.
  3. used an old spring harrow drag, it gets down a couple inches , i would thing raking would work as long as u get good soil contact, and plant before a rain that would also help
  4. so got to camp and checked the two plots i planted last week the hot spot mixed with a touch of big and beasty really looks good , the big and beasty plot looks ok, some spots dosn't seem like i got good germination, some one was asking about the hot spot so far results look great but i did not just throw the seed down and walk away , ground was tilled up fertilizer applied and lime, then ran over with wheeler to get the seeds in good contact with soil. the clover plot is going to have to get sprayed for grasses, not bad yet just dont want it to get out of hand
  5. planted hot spot last weekend will be checking on it sunday i will see how it does
  6. i planted WI clover this years plot is about 80 yrds long 30 to 40yrds wide and the deer are crushing it and keeping it nipped down going to double the size next year
  7. i thought chestnut trees where wiped out ... i was under the thinking unless u planted it there are no native chestnuts left, they do look like beech nuts on that tree. and maybe some one can answer this arn't chestnuts large like bigger then acorns. im no expert by far so more then likely im totally wrong
  8. well two more plots planted......so i hit my goal clover is getting crushed by the deer...
  9. i have no idea whats best to use this is my first year doing plots. i got two more planted today so a total of 3 are done the clover is getting slammed and browsed hard. still working on a 4th plot not sure if ill get t done really hard to kill off the weeds this time of year
  10. last yr i didnt have any buck pics to speak of till very end of october then i got some big boys.. this year hundreds of does and fawn pics a few small bucks, and only got one good buck back in june, but come the rut the boys will def be around. i figure on my 90 acres i got about 15 does calling it home and at least 6 to 7 fawns... im sure they travel more then 90 acres but this appears to be there core
  11. is that hairless or just loosing his reddish summer coat, and getting his winter coat in...ive seen a few starting to change
  12. just grabbed 500lbs lime and 50lbs 16-16-16 fertilizer, and a bag of bio logic hots spot, at it again tmrw will get the last two plots planted that i had planned to do at the start of the year, plan on mixing a lil big and beasty with the bio logic in one spot. just big n beasty on the other. and then work on a fourth spot that wasnt planned i just sprayed and weed whacked it last week. Jut chipping away at the lime a lil at a time .
  13. big n beasty goes in tmrw, along with another mix in my third spot and work on getting the forth plot ready for next week.....
  14. lots of all day sits in my recliner looking out the camp window with a budlight lol
  15. everything has an odor just because its not been touched for a month dosnt mean it dosnt have an odor, any human odor was more then likely gone but maybe the bear smells plastic and has found food before in plastic container or just curious
  16. for the most part, got two that are getting planted net week, but i just started working on third spot wasnt really in my plans but i said why not ill see if i can get the third spot in,,, but im right on track
  17. update clover is getting hit pretty good, deer and turkeys, was going to plant the rest of plots today but weeds were starting to pop in the spots i cleared and tilled up so sprayed again will plant next week... wild apples trees are loaded... lots of pics of does and fawns ... few small bucks
  18. 7 stands on 90 acres, mix between ladder and hang on's.......some may not get hunted much ... i choose what stand to sit based on wind direction
  19. I wish I saw this earlier i too bought a disc harrow this year did not perform well at all to break up ground added weight and didnt help .. found an old spring harrow in the woods worked great.. the disc was good once the ground was broke up and to break up clumps of dirt, but mine was a regular tow behind so hope yours wrks
  20. well the clover isn't really growing up but is getting thicker so i guess thats good, put some fertilizer down see what that does. Need some dry weather my other two areas that are turned over and has the weeds killed are just all mud and cant do anything with them right now,
  21. Remove the stand you gave them a heads-up. give them the trail camera back leave it at there door step or wait till you see them. Make clear that there is no hunting be polite. When I bought my property went and met all neighboring land owners so far so good. Sounds like you may not be so lucky. The first year I would hunt areas that they may becoming on your property and be visiable to them easy way to get message across. If they do trespass call the cops and call every time after that the LEO will get sick of the calls and and wont be happy with the neighbors that dont get the message, retired nypd or not. Start out nice and let then set the tone as how it goes. Only issue I see is 11 acres is small and even a good shot the deer may wander off of yours property to theres and if a war is started you may be sol in recovering your deer
  22. I would say spray is a must then use a control fire burn it off. you can use throw and grow after that but better yet use a heavy hand rake rough up the soil plant during or just before a good rain
  23. I did food plots for a first time this year bought a $400.00 dollar disc for my 4 wheeler even with weight added didn't brake up the ground at all. I ended up using an old drag with curved prongs on it the disc worked to make the soil into finer pieces but wasnt what you wanted to break up the ground. My best results came from spraying it twice with round up let it ry put a match to it then drag and wait any weeds come up spray and drag...and the ferns without a good spraying will be right backup in no time
