i looked up the bolt on 2 inch adapters i think ill go with one of those and maybe have a weld thrown in to just for extra support. wont do anything till march so if anyone has any info or ideas let me know
-
i have not had good luck with disc harrows on atvs at least for breaking up new ground it does ok with breaking up clumps of dirt ive had better luck with with spring type drag harrows
-
what set up are you talking about theres a number of impact implments
-
The hitch on my polaris sportsman only 1 1/4 and looks thin and cheap I 've seen where they split and crack when using attachments like the one above ...I think I'll try to find someone to weld a 2in and really beef it up before i do anything
-
went to that site looks like there attachement is for side by sides only at least thats all they showed going them on and yeah you might damage the hitch area on the atv but a qiuck weld job should fix it
-
don't plan on using the disc I had better luck using an old spring harrow last year. So i think im going with the chisel plow and S-tines,,,,then the cultipactor also... At least thats what i think i will start with, I have some rocky ground and the disc I used last year didnt do much but the spring harrow would rip the bigger rocks right up and turn the soil pretty good,,, So I figure a few passes with the chisel plow then finish it with S-tines
-
so i have been doing some research and hope to up-grade my food plot tools... Was checking out Black Boar implements ..U got to buy the special attachment for your atv then buy what ever tools cultipacker plow etc... anyone have any history or use the blck boar brand
-
i didnt do a soil test im guessing the ph is very far from perfect i did put lime down but that takes months and months to do anything I did fertilize when it was planted and again when the plants where about 4in high the fertilizer seemed to give it a boost,,, I planted on the 8th of august and had plants 13to 15in in around 6 weeks and bulbs softball size by october
-
I plan on adding a few acres in plots too lots more trees to drop to get some new growth going..... def going to plant more big n beasty it cost more then most seed but the results were great
-
well i was delayed but made it to the property and dropped about 40 trees lots more to do tho,,,,, on a side as of the last day the deer hadnt touched the turnips well they been busy because most are all gone
-
saw an add on craigs list for chucker and pheasant
-
well with the last day of ml tmrw ill be heading to camp next week and start dropping a bunch of trees. Great food source for the deer during winter and all the new growth comes spring makes a natural food plot and in a few years additional bedding.....The spot i did last winter worked out great deer had lots of feed from it and it was used for bedding somewhat not really thick enough yet to provide security cover

depends on the town u r in DEC dosnt care as long as no burn ban is in effect an your only burning natural stuff no pt wood or treated wood etc
-
cash in hand no deal going bad offer less done deal no waiting for seller to see if the deal goes threw
-
ive delt with this for lots of year loosing permission for a number of reasons from high lease cost to family of the owner stuff to land being sold thats until i came across land i could afford and got my own ... things always change when u dont have full control of where ur hunting....
-
well first time was last year so im no expert but if there is a light steady wind you can do it fairly easy i burned the edges first on the down wind side so there was a barrier between woods and field ....it did save a lot of work,,, make sure other weeds and woods are green and damp when u burn the dead stuff
-
the taller vegetation is a pain but i learned last year that if u get the right day and the weeds are dry and it can be done safely a match and a controlled burn does wonders and makes things much easier, and you just got to deal with rocks

dropped a few soft maple this week for the deer to nibble on

Getting prepared for the spring
land 1 replied to chas0218's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
i would say this winter drop some trees to open it a lil more plus the deer will eat the tops,,,,, i planted big n beasty and the deer loved it same with WI clover...... -
So im already thinking about next year and food plots, this year i bought a tow behind disc harrow and it did not perform as i thought. I ended up using two very very old spring harrows they worked but they need repairs and my guess they wont last, any way i was looking at a some field cultivators speciffically Field tough cultivator model atv470 my ground has some rocks large ones at that, and its not the easiest ground to break up any advise, i have a 570 sportsman that i use to tow with,,,, any advise what to use/buy and a tractor is not an option steep hills would have me praying a tractor does not roll over
-
nice i got about 5 acres or more im going to clear cut during the winter to make bedding and get some food on the ground for the deer during winter. i did a couple acres last year and the deer where in eating the tops the next day
-
hunt small game as u push
-
just one word of advise i first went and bought a tow behind disc harrow for atv it didnt do anything the old spring harrow was key once it was broke up then i used disc harrow
