are these below avg temps slowing growth we got the rain but its been around 10degrees below the norm for awhile now and appears to stay that way the next few days
-
plenty of sun thats not an issue but it didnt rain until sunday and the ground was dry so hopefully it will take off with the rain this week
-
well the the big n beasty looks good some plants are pushing 8 in the average is around six the hot spot is good the clover i just dont know the weeds and grass are hurting it i trimmed everything down to 5inches see if that helps the deer are in it and hitting it fairly hard. the backwoods plot stuff thats mostly oats has been in the ground a week and barely any growth i tought oats were the easiest things to grow ???hopefully the rain will get it going and i threw down fertilizer in all the plots. The DR brush mower worked well mowed about 2 acres with it.

Im no wiz by a long shot I think discolored leaves indicates a lack of fertilizer or nutrion in the soil I know oats and ww do well late. I would think any fertilizer is better then none on your WI fusion. Bright side sounds like u got plenty of deer and you did plant it for them just they are a lil early

Dogs are good to go at my camp my dog goes with me but i am the sole owner and any one that visits has got along with the dog jut fine and hell scent control at a deer camp i think the dog is the least of your worries 3 or 4 guys in a camp for a couple days stink worse then any dog... No my dads giant dumb ass lab is another story he occasionally can come to camp great dog but hes 80lbs and thinks hes a lap dog and barks and carries on any time a wheeler is started whines when his owner is gone ugh...
-
they should put some size on quick late nesting this year
-
im pretty sure they can still cut for silage just a very low amount of grain
-
where i clear cut back in early winter is going great i actually puled my cam out of the area a month or so ago because kept kicking deer up out of there beds.. plan on doing two more areas or at least one this winter I like to do it right at the end of season they love the tops and buds and it helps give them a lil bump in food as the weather gets bad and the bucks are recovering from rut
-
yup should be a great week for growing temps are bumping up and rain, plan on going down monday using my new DR tow behind brush hug and spread some 10-10-10 fertilizer, and maybe just take an inch or two of the clover more so to knock the broad leaf back a touch... I know its a lil late to trim the clover but I dont think it will hurt and like I said will mostly be cutting back weed. Hopefully the grass is starting to die off from last weeks spray

white clover is slow getting up and if hit hard by deer even slower, from what ive seen this year, Plus at least with me u battle the weeds more since its slower and is a yr round deal. The fall stuff I planted is growing fast and blocking out what ever weeds there would be. With that said i cant wait to see if it does take of in yr 2 if it looks really good by end of may im making clover plot bigger if not, ill just leave it the same size and just make the area bigger with fall plot.

True about the bigger bucks but at the same time ive looked out the cabin window while we are all being loud music playing and there stands a nice buck of course its after dark.... Too each there own, do what you thinks works,

Ive found that if they hear and see the wheeler on some what regular basis they dont seem to mind, i take mine about 3/4 of the way in and park it. Just last week i was doing work and got off and several deer jumped out 20yrds away no doubt if i just kept going they would have stayed bedded. Now if your never in the woods with iit and suddenly open day comes and this new noise and activity starts they get alerted and may spook out. Either way if the deer are within a couple of hundred yards the deer more then likely will hear you walking or riding unless you have a super stelth way of walking in , backdoor or creek bottom .

Just bought a used tow behind DR 44in field and brush mower thats it no more toys for awhile

Well i bought mine last year 90acres know somepeople will question what i did but i bought it from a energy corp, they still own all mineral and gas rights on the property, I havea ten acre buffer zone that they cant touch that is where i placed my camp. The camp is a steel pole barn that i had built then did the finish work inside using mostley rough cut lumber. The energy company when it comes to gas does hydro-fracking and when they bought it they were betting that NY would allow it but NY banned it as did the town. With that being said sure i may wake up one day and a well is going in but at 450.00 an acre i cant complain. As far as the building saved a ton of cash by not doing a log cabin or something along those lines, I have over 800sq ft of living space for less the $20,000. And to get the money i had only a couple yrs on my house left so got a new morgage 3%intrest rate paid off the first morgage and the land. to me it was worth it twice i have had propety the i could hunt for free for many years but lost it do to diffrent reason tried the lease thing but that didnt work when the landowner found out about land leases he contacted a company who put on a web site he know gets 1600.00 bucks for 55 acres wtf....Any way my land is less then an hr away I luove it there doing stuff at least every 2weeks

i got to go with cutting down a bunch of trees in december and januarary i think helped alot with getting the does food and thus alot of fawns, they really loved the buds and now all the new growth the deer are loving plus good bedding. food plots are great but cutting i think does more to improve things overall
-
not one yote pic this year, last year there where lots, the neighboring camp tols me they let a guy hunt them after deer season closed and he got a good number, and man do i have a alot of fawns even one doe has triplets
-
so yesterday checked stuff out the hot spot biologic is great about 4in high and if the deer eat it this is great stuff, the big n beasty is doing well where it came up and the stuff i used to fill in the bald patches is coming up nicely. did one last plot of Backwoods throw and grow by evolved harvest, i think its mostly oats of some type so ill see what that does, and sprayed the grass in the clover.. Also got my first buck pics since June one 3yrold, two 2yrolds and one 1yr old. all within an hr of each other so im guessing a bachlor group, im guessing the cooler weather made them move a lil
-
some showed up 5 bucks this week a 3 yrold at least 2 , 2yr olds and the other two ar 1 1/2 but one of those is a small 9 .. all on the 26th its weird but at least i know a few around... i guesiing ooler temps
-
same here only one decent buck back in june and the spike that still hangs out with mom
-
ive seen does leave the fawns in yards and close to houses and visit at night. if its still around in a couple of days mom may be dead
-
went to the camp a few hrs, so clover still good has to get sprayed for grass next week, the big n beasty is ok seems like a heavy rain or something happen an area in the plot grew nothing the rest of it seems good the plants are about two inches in two weeks i put some seed down of some throw tuff in grow stuff that had rye and ww, the biologic hot spot is doing very good germination across whole plot and some plants are 3inches or better in two weeks
-
sweet corn they like it alot

no brush hog ive just been hitting the taller broad leaf with weed whacker , the more i read on 2,4-d not a good idea for 1st year clover. i just ordered cleth so next week ill spray for grasses. and just skip broad leaf this year and just hit with the ole weed whacker... the weeds and grass isnt bad by any means just dont want it to get to the point it seeds out
-
and a Second question any one use 2,4-D on clover bought the wrong stuff, ment to get 2-4B that i know is safe
