I got a deal on it because it was a blemish model. It may of held up better but a couple guys shot low last year with broadheads and slit the thin piece of the belly and this year it just fell apart. I'll be purchasing a Rinehart next year if I can swing it.
-
That target was a disappointment. Only 2 years old and fell apart. Granted I run a shoot at my house 2month leading until the season but my little 50dollar pig has done better. The rump is holding up to it great.
-
Random spots walking strait at the target from 32-about 12 holding the same spot without slidingjng my pin one of those arrows has a broadheads shot that first at the farthest spot. Elevated shots from my roof all under 25yards.

Welcome aboard. Where are you out of?

I don't know if this will help anyone but this is my hang and hunt setup. Tricks I've done to quiet everything down and lighten it up. The stand is a basic field and stream hang on. I cut the pipes out if the seat and made it a mesh seat. Then I took paracord and wrapped the edge for 2 reasons I can feel with my boots the edge and it helps stop stuff from bouncing off it while being backed in. The orange paracord is to stop the stand from bouncing. My straps are off an old golfbag. I wrap the tape on the carabiner to hook my bag to in the stand I also put tape on metal to help stop the ping. Also placed the pull up rope against the top support so onse stand is hung i can drop the rope down hook up my bow and be good to go. The final step is spraying all the tube with spray foam it almost completely takes any metal sound out if hit. I also use a ratchet strap to help secure the stand. The sticks are a cheap 3set off of sportsman guide I got got 40. I cut 12 inches off each one re drilled holes for supports and added an aider to each one using left over strap. I wrapped all the metal in tape to stop noise. I also filled the tube with spray foam like the stand. Last step was taking tape and wrapping the buckles. Not sure of total weight but it has saved me a bit. Very little noise now and all packs tight. It's been taking me 10mins to get from ground to sitting in my stand. These are not my ideas I've watches and seen videos on YouTube and modified stuff for my equipment. Not completely finished i would like to add a bow holder.

It was great to be out this morning with that crisp cool air. I'm ready to get this season started.

If the bear comes out it will be a bonus but I'm after the buck that made that track. It was not that little 6 because I went and checked his track and it wasn't as big. Got lucky he was on one of the logging trails that are covered in mud. All I need is a decent 2.5 to come through. If a bear or older buck comes in i take that as a bonus.

Yesterday on my way home from work i went by a spot i really want to hunt. It's the spot I ran Into the bear and a lot of deer sign. Well the state logged the hell out of it looked like a select cut but they took a lot out. So i decided i had to go in and check for sign to see if it pushed the deer out. To my surprise it had not. I cut a couple massive buck track, tons of doe, fawn and smaller buck tracks. I jumped a bigger body animal going in it only jumped once or twice never saw a tail could just tell when it landed it was heavier. On my way out 50 yards from my truck I jumped a little 6 out of velvet. He went about 80yards and turned and watched me. Looks like all it did was push the deer back into where I planned on hunting because all the trails were just beat down to dirt. Forgot my phone so no pictures again but as long as I get the right wind I should be in that spot for my first sit.

I wouldn't worry about not seeing anything yet. Crossbow is a long ways away. I won't see bucks or signs of bucks in some of my areas for another 3 weeks.
-
The guy told me he was just over 21inches wide and that long point was just shy of 10inches. I've seen a lot of deer and nice bucks cross right where he got hit.
-
I'll have to look through my photos but it was a 3 point with my bow at 16.

DEC Proposes Potential Future "Holiday" Deer Hunt
Swamp_bucks replied to CapDistPatriot's topic in Deer Hunting
I personally don't think it will make much of a difference. Most people are done by thanksgiving at least around me. Only the diehard hunters are out during that last week and that's very far and few between. To me it's still the same amount of tags issued so it won't be like they are giving more out. I do understand the shed buck issue but that's just a risk they'll have to take and or stress to hunters to make sure you can tell if it's a shed buck or not. Is there a chance it's to draw non residents in? Holiday season people are out of work so they can get more people to come into the state? -
Driving home today from work just got out of greene and saw lights flashing. Someone I know was parked with cops behind him and just passed him was a big buck. He sent me the picture.

I just bought the muddy harness. I've only used to hang stands but I like it. I prefer a harness I can wear under my jacket and this one I can do it with.

I have a 30-06 and it more than doors the job ammo is decent price and everyone sells it. My favorite rifle round is the 270. Need to get another one. Killed 5 with my first they all piled up. Most have dropped with the 30-06 also. Between the .308 or 30/06 you can't go wrong.

I personally feel that those old mature does know from year to year. They are the ones that teach the fawns where the food is and when to get it. I used to have one that you could watch her from a distance checking out stands. She had to be 5-6 years old because I saw her for 4 years and she was already a big doe. she had a very distinct black stripe down her back. She lived on 40 acres and she never really left it. For the most part most deer don't remember.

I wouldn't want to be any of those deer come October 1st. Good luck this year rob.
-
All my stands are up and ground blinds made.

If you had a choice of what type of tree crop to hunt over which one would you and why? I have my best luck hunting over apples over any of the others. My main reason is most of the public land and even growing up hunting my grandmother's it had more apple trees then anything else. I don't think I've ever taken a deer on an acorn flat.
-
Finished tree stands today 7m,7p. I went out squirrel hunting this morning also. Just waiting on the opener I'll get out to chase squirrels at least 1 or 2 more times.
-
Stands are all up,cameras up for the last soak of the year. I usually pull them for the year in the middle of October. Me and my daughter hunted quick this am only saw one squirrel. Time to hurry up and wait for the season.

I think it depends on the property and the deer itself. If there's a hiking trail getting used all the time they get used to human scent so they become more tolerant. Jsut like on private with them getting used to atvs riding around. Granted older deer would probably not like it regardless. However every deer has it's own personality so some may tolerate more than others. I've read articles of people killing big bucks next to public land parking lots all the time. So those deer clearly see and smell people all the time. Personally I make sure all my stuff is done by the end of this weekend every year.

Only during youth season on public, then a hat during gun in stand and vest and hat walking out both during small game.

Already have it. They are very sharp straight from the package but I tried sharpening one and it made it scary sharp. First year using a fixed blade in a long time. Not to mess up this thread how do you sharpen the seration part? I have a small chain saw file I was going to run through it quick.
