  1. Scouting trip today yielded 2 new spots for bow. One is where I've been at before. I went to 4 pieces today one was packed full of beds. Found close to 15. However there was 0 rubs/scrapes showing they are there in the fall. I did almost have a doe run me over at this piece but not enough sign to peak my interest for hunting. Second stop was a total bust 1 decent trail but quickly realized not worth my time come fall. 3rd spot I jumped 2 big bodied deer and found a bunch of rubs leading into thicket with willows and cattails. Trails are down to mud. Never bowhunted this spot but have gun hunted it and always seem to catch multiple deer in it. So I picked 2 trees so that will be most likely my opening morning spot. 4th spot is a piece I've hunted many times both bow and gun but not in this area of it. I've jumped big bucks on this piece before and have a good relationship with a couple owners and they've said there are a lot of big ones. So last year during muzzleloader I walked it and back tracked where they bed. So today i went back and found some oaks and hung a camera on a heavy trail. Still want at least 1-2 more solid chunks for bow. There's 3 pieces I have in mind for this sometime in july.
  2. I've heard the pool trick but need to put stuff on the bottom because the feel Ive heard freaks them out. But I think during the rut it would be good. I could see a buck stop for a drink and keep chasing.
  3. So my oldest is technically my step daughter but I've raised her since she was 3 so she is mine as I see it. She leaves for her biological father's for 5weeks Sunday. So the family decided to give me my gifts last night. THP hat, hoody, and elite hat.
  4. Just got done mowing no picture of the front lawn but this is both sides and back lawn. In the last picture in the center the taller grass is actually a wild flowers garden. In about a month it will all be bloomed. Just to the right is my veggie garden.
  5. Good for them any business should that wants to open should.
  6. Ide love to do a western hunt but with young kids I wouldn't be able to have that type of time or finances for awhile. We would definitely be going early October so we didn't miss our best time here in ny. One of our main reasons for wanting to try is to start our own tradition. Alot of us have lost family lands to hunt and with that the traditions we had. Now buck size if we were to go yes I would want a decent buck. But to us a good buck is 80"-plus(I now 80" is nothing for some) if I want to bring home meat ide take a doe. I'm ok with it taking a year or 2 to find a decent area to go. That's half the fun for me and spending that time hunting with good friends is worth it. Eventually we plan on going out west for mule deer or something else.
  7. Decided I needed a deer cart for next year. So I put one together using tires off an old stroller the bottom half of a ladder stand. I'm not done yet still need to add some bolts to make it wider, bolts for the handles, paint it,get some ratchet straps for it. I think the length will be ok only time will tell. Anything better than dragging one a mile.
  8. Figured i would start this up to help me keep track of my progress and what I've come across. So this year I will be deer hunting Stateland and only on a very slim chance I might hit a couple pieces of private. So today I started my scouting and got cameras hung up. I already have 2 spots picked out that I hunted last year anf will be my main gun spots. I'm hoping to find 3-6 other decent stand sights for bow. I used to do all my bow hunting on my lease so my main goal is to get those spots figured out.
  9. Ide say stress could be a possibility. If the fawn was born that day and she had complications with the birth. So a mix of the loss and that I guess could cause it. But it was probably hit by a car. Not an expert so who knows.
  10. I think in 2 years me and my friends want to try hunting a different state. Also it would most likely be early season. So which one would you go to? I want to go to Ohio. Seems like there's a good deer population tags are pretty cheap. Plus enough public land to get lost on.
  11. Ide make sure my family was in a safe place if I new they were heading my way. Then I would sit back with a beer on my roof with everything ready to go. I wouldn't want to hurt anyone but no way in hell someone's taking or destroying what I busted my ass to get.
  12. Man now I want to get my cameras out. Nice deer.
  13. If she can make it here this weekend and I can't find one I'll send her home with one of my single shots so she has something.
  14. My sister lives near Webster I want to say ontario (don't know the area well) and I told her 2 days ago I wish she had a gun in that house being a single mom. Well I don't know what happened but I woke up to a text saying she wants a shotgun. I live 3-4 hrs away. I told her if she can get home this weekend walmart usually has some cheaper remingtons and I'll show her and teach her how to shoot. She's been around guns from her ex-husband and myself but to my knowledge never really shot. So if anyone knows a good reliable shooting coach in that area to help teach her and help her train more I would appreciate it. Thanks
  15. I know the hunting public have 2 videos out with the guys from tethrd showing how they use them and how to get comfortable.
  16. I get wanting to protest this is not protesting. Where in the hell are these elected officials to say it like it is. No one has said anything about the 2 people that have died in Minneapolis because of the rioting. Do there lives matter? If they do then all the rioters should be charged with their deaths. These aren't protesters there vandals, thieves God knows what else. I have the same feeling when a sports team wins a championship and they destroy the city. Those people aren't fans at that point they are criminals. Like I've told my wife you want change in these big cities and communities with issues change who you put in office. Piss and moan there's no change but keep voting in the same people and expect a different result. I'm all done with my rant. Now to get ahold of my sister who lives just outside Rochester to make sure she's ok.
  17. Thank you for the info I'll shoot him a message.
  18. So Ive finally convinced my wife to let me get a hound. She doesn't like the beagles because of the energy level is so high and they like to bark so much. So I've turned my sights to a basset hound. It would be a house dog before anything else. I know they like to bark but aren't as high strung as the beagle and tend not to bark as much from what I've looked up. Plus they seem to be great with kids, other dogs and cats. Does anyone have any experience with them? Bad or good? Possible breeders in NY? Looking to maybe get one next winter sometime when we aren't as busy so I have the time to train it.
  19. I know some people in this country forget what this weekend represents. It means a lot to my family and was made sure I new what it was for growing up and my kids know as well. My father lost one of his brothers in Vietnam when my dad was only 10. So every year we lay a wreath at his grave stone in our little way to thank him. I have a long list of military members in my family and am truly honored to say they are family. Remember those that have lost their lives for us to have the freedoms we have. Take the time to thank service members current and former when you still have a chance to thank them. Today we will be having a going away party for one of my closet friends. He will be deploying to Afghanistan for a year. He heads out for training tomorrow morning at 2am for a month before he goes over. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICE
  20. I have a stihl also. It can sit all winter and 2 pulls ready to go. It's going on 12yrs old. I've cleared trails, mainly does my house work with it I also think you can get a medal blade attachment for them.
  21. I know growing up alot of older farmers had them in there. My one good friends uncle had his 22 hornet for chucks/coyotes and his 12 gauge for deer. They owned most of the road so if he ran home quick and had a chance he filled his tag quick or knocked a chuck down.
  22. Only sat until 8 but we had birds within 60yrds a couple time going nuts. Did some scouting and I think I figured out how they have been getting around me. Maybe get out tomorrow.
  23. Well hoping to get out Saturday it's needed after today. Also one of my buddies who's in the reserves will be shipping out next week to Afghanistan so we are going to try and get him a bird.
  24. Looks good. Ivery always had some sort of facial hair since I was 16. If I don't I look like I'm 12. Wife likes the bald head and beard look.
