  1. For rainy days,I find it better to hunt field edges. I see more birds(in the fall season) in the rain in or near fields. Find a flock and run like hell towards them to break them up,then hide and call them in.
  2. Awsome post!!! Just awsome! Thanks for posting.....it brings me back to earth to read something this good. Can't wait to get in the woods now more than ever.
  3. I recently tried to quit. Been smoking since I was about 10yo and now am 47. I recently went 4 days without a smoke. But when I went for a weekend trip to the cabin,...well,the beer made me do it! LOL Tried the patch once....made it for 2 weeks...till I visited the local pub, that was it. SOOOOO......my worst enemy is beer/whiskey and smokes. No,I won't quit drinking for the sake of smoking. I am going to give it another shot though, and try harder this time.My breathing seems fine to my Dr. but he don't hear me in the morning when I get up.Big difference.I know I need to quit,I spend about $200-$300/mos on the damn things and see no good from it. Nasty habit is all it is. Hope you faired well Wooly.
  4. That's a great thing you did for him. Well done! Wish him luck and keep us posted for sure.
  5. Depends on the charge. Magnum loads kick pretty good, more than awt' 6. Also depends on what maker of rifle....a Rem in 300mag might kick harder than a Winchester in 300mag. for example.
  6. Why is it,that I have to click the back button 2x after clicking on something here? For example....I click on general chit chat, open a topic, then to go back I need to click 2x? Before the site was redone,I did not notice this, and on other forums, this don't happen. Just was wondering why it happens....sometimes a pita...LOL. Not a big deal, don't take it the wrong way,not complaining here, just curious.
  7. I don't have any "bad" terrain and any machine should do ok. I would be concerned with a tractor on some parts of it,but a UTV would be perfect as there are already a couple trails started.I'm gonna play around with the idea till spring/summer of next year. Really torn between UTV or tractor. We may go with both......used ofcourse. A new Polaris Ranger after I did the build it online cost upwards of $14K.........that's just too much IMO. I would settle for a used trade-in, in decent cond.(maybe $4K) [a neighbor where I live just grabbed a nice Ranger for that] and still be able to pick a nice used tractor up to do my plots with.
  8. The most used method of hunting bear in Pa is to get groups of guys together and drive the swamps and thick ugly stuff. It's effective if you like to hunt that way. I shot my only bear back in 1979 on my way back to camp because I was frozen cold.He was a pushed bear anyway, because there were guys hunting down in the area he came from. Just got lucky to be there at the right time.
  9. Whatever is leftover from last nights supper usually......cold spaghetti, lasagne, mac n cheese,a pork sandwich, cold burger etc. Water, maybe a thermos of coffee if it's cold. Gummi bears, licorice an apple or banana maybe grapes. I like the bite size candy bars too like the snickers or milkyway bars etc.
  10. When I was first hunting on my own,I went for Hell birds. I wounded one that fell to the ground yelling. The rest of them came after me,chasing me from the woods, dive bombers from Hell.....don't laugh! I have not been out for them since. I hear the breast is good though. You can have it.
  11. I just read through this thread and all I can say is WOW-WEE! One of the best hunters,if not THE best are the cat species. Now we all have seen NatGeo. The cats in the Congo Delta or anywhere else for that matter, wait by water holes for a meal. Are they not hunters? Enough said about that. I look at hunting this way: However I decide to legally take game,to me is hunting.....whether it be stand hunting, still hunting,in a tree,a ground blind, watching a field, running it down and cutting it's throat with a knife,a speer works good too as does going airborn from a tree stand with a machete.Whatever. Legal pursuit of game......is hunting. And no,do not cut the corn down. JMO
  12. I sent my triger assy. to Pat recently because the safe lever had broken while bench shooting. I called him,he was the person on the other end of the phone.......this amazed me. Usually someone answers the calls or a machine answers. I spoke with Pat,who BTW seemed to be a real nice down to earth fella. He gave me the address to send my trigger group and off in the mail it went via USPS flat rate priority mail. In 2 weeks it was delivered back to me via USPS flat rate priority mail, repaired,no bill and me happy as a camper. Kudos to Pat Fitzgerald and Knight for the fine sevice I recieved.

  14. Humm......Maybe a speedo!
  15. I think that has to do with your photobucket acct...not this site. "Used 55.02MB of your 97.66MB global upload quota (Max. single file size: 8MB)"
  16. The videos worked fine. Just click on the pic,and redirected to photobucket. Perfect.
  17. My dad and I were hunting turkey one time, met up to have a coffee and shoot the bull a bit. We both smoke and as we sat there, having a coffee and a smoke and talking,a nice buck walked within 20yrds of us and checked us out, then walked away. I can remember other times hunting deer, that I had to put my smoke down to shoot the deer,or we met up and started a small fire to heat our grilled sandwiches up,and had deer up and close passing by while doing so. On the other hand,I have had deer come in when not smoking, sitting very still and well hidden, and had them bust me....the snorting and stomping then taking off. To me,there has to be more to it all than just the scent alone. Maybe they did'nt like the breakfast we cooked while our clothes were in the cabin?
  18. That's pretty neat...thanks for sharing.
  19. I have only seen 1 male on the property in 2 years,in the same place on the same stone wall.....always drumming. I like to see him there, therefore I will let him be.I like to hear him in the early morning while having my coffee. If I had a larger family of them,yeah....good eating and fun to hunt.I love when they scare the crap out of ya when they go up in deer season.
  20. I started reading her "story" and then moved on to the comments section.....I can't deal with that kind of cow flop....so I stopped reading. Look at the source of the story. If Sunday hunting ever happens for us in Pa, then so be it. It will be because the hunters stood together and did something about it. Otherwise,it will not happen.Yes I miss hunting spring gobbler since almost 100% of the time I have to work saturdays during that time of the year. Yeah,it ticks me off. Would I love to see Sunday hunting in Pa....Hell Yeah! I bought land in NY to get away from Pa BS and to relax and enjoy the outdoors any time I want,7 days a week.
