  1. Can't be the same buck. The neighbors keep an eye out for him and you'd be wishing the cops were there if you showed up with a bow. Lol
  2. The thread title is "first post and deer", can it bit that he was just very excited about the experience and the words didn't come out right? Some of you guys really need to chill out and not read too deeply into some posts. Let the kid enjoy the moment!!
  3. From what I've heard neither of them had any orange clothing on. This is from what I've heard. Either way it's no excuse for what happened.
  4. From what I've heard, mind everyone it's what I've heard. He was shot by a member of his hunting party. Supposedly the shooter heard a noise in the brush and shot. Unfortunate for the victim. Prayers for the Bruce family.
  5. Had a bunk sneak in in the fog about an hour ago. Didn't see him till the last second thanks to the fog. Had no chance to count points, if he was three on one side. Did see the rack as he walked away from me. Oh well.... it's still early in the game.
  6. Geno he's in there at least two years now.
  7. I'll be in Walton. Looking forward to a good season. Good luck guys!!
  8. My sister lives around the corner from that sump. That buck is the neighborhood attraction as well as a pet. The only thing I can figure is that he must have run across the highway and jumped the fence with a full head of steam. Now that he's in there he doesn't have the room to get the speed to jump the fence again. IMO Last year he tore up just about every tree in there and snapped quite a few in half. Every time I visit my sis I make it a point to go see him. And yes, the immediate neighbors keep a watch for him to make sure no one tries anything funny!!
  9. From the looks of the pic I would say in the 120's.
  10. Here's an article on hanging deer. http://www.ehow.com/about_4598481_long-hang-deer-before-processing_.html
  11. Once the temp goes above 45 the deer comes down and gets butchered. Not taking a chance on letting it spoil.
  12. 3rd Saturday in November, which looks to be the 15th in 2014. As long as my calendar is correct. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/10002.html
  13. Or maybe he read the negative comments and decided not to post pics of his deer? Just a thought.
  14. It's good all season long in Westchester. If you notice it says Regular season- Bow Only in Westchester.
  15. I'm glad you're daughter got her first deer. Congrats to her!! It's sad that a few turned you off from posting pics. However you may want to post them in a separate thread, there are those of us that would appreciate seeing them.
  16. It's amazing how a thread that started out as a reminder turned into battleground for a few. This thread should have celebrated the fact that the youth hunters in NY could have posted their stories of in the field. Their successes and their experiences in the deer woods. As a bowhunter and gun hunter I can honestly say that I am disgusted with the exploits of some members on here. Now we've even resorted to name calling...makes you wonder who the real "youth" are!!
  17. For the bowhunter's that are worried about having their weekend ruined by youth hunters, I have a suggestion. Why don't you volunteer your time to be a mentor to a youth hunter? I can guarantee to you that if that youth shoots a deer, the smile on that kids face will be your greatest reward for the year. Even more satisfying than killing a deer yourself. Who knows you may even get a better appreciation for youth seasons. I've been hunting for 35 years and bowhunting for 25 of those years. Even though my hunting time has always been limited. I've always made the best of my time. Over the years I've had to deal with small game hunters and turkey hunters while bowhunting and I've never felt that they ruined my day or weekend. You just deal with it!!
  18. Not sure what they put on their chili...but I like Cheddar and sour cream with mine.
  19. Not the same deer. There should be, at the very least, a "knob" on that main beam.
  20. Opening afternoon my buddy saw six different 8 pointers, a 6 and a 4. None came in close enough for a shot. His son wound up shooting a doe.
  21. I had good luck in the past by placing ads in local, county specific papers. Always placed "Looking for land to lease" ads.
  22. He nailed it!!! Looks great!!!
