  1. The winner of this year's contest is Luke. I will be sending you a call that I am going to have made for you instead of the one pictured. The one that is pictured will be going to allblue bandit's son. I couldn't sand to see either one not get a call. Congrats to both young lads!!
  2. I was hoping for a better showing. Thanks for those who participated. I'll be contacting the winner in the next day or two.
  3. I've had the Tru-Glo stick on sights on my gun for at least 8 years now and they work great. I prefer the this "iron sight" design for proper alignment and aiming.
  4. Here's the call I will be giving away. It is a Cherry pot with a slate over slate design and comes with a two piece Cherry striker. The call was made by Gene's Turkey Calls and is brand new in the package.
  5. I took my nephew out for the youth hunt on Saturday, 4/20. It was a very quiet morning to say the least. Our first setup accounted for absolutely no birds being heard or sighted. Around 9:30 we made a move to where he shot his longbeard last year on the youth hunt. Around 10:00am I struck accord with a single hen which lasted for 5 minutes and then she shut up and was gone. We made another short move and I made a few calls on Josh's longbox and a gobbler sounded off. We found a couple of trees to set up against and made a few more calls but it was quiet once again. I took out my SS aluminum and got another gobble but this time much closer. A few minutes later we catch movement off to our left and a real longbeard steps out into the open about 60 yards away. He is followed by two jakes and 10 hens. I called to them but the longbeard followed the hens and the jakes came to investigate my calling. When they reached a distance of 25 yards they separated and my nephew took the shot. His bird has a 4.5" beard with 1/2" spurs and weighed 17.2lbs. First gobble heard at 10:15, dead bird at 10:25.
  6. My nephew scored on a jake this morning. Called in a big ole longbeard with ten hens but he followed the hens. Two jakes came in and at 25 yards that was close enough. Bird has a 4.5" beard with 1/2" spurs and weighed 17.2 lbs. it was a real quiet morning till 10 am when I got a hen fired up. Thirty minutes later the toms came in.
  7. I see a lot less now than in the past years. Spring turkey hunting was in its hay day back in the 80's. You couldn't pick up a hunting magazine without seeing it mentioned on the front cover. They made it sound like all you needed to do was sit next to a tree, make a call and they'd come in and run you over. I had never seen so many turkey hunters as I did then. A lot of these guys got discouraged and gave up when they saw how hard it really is. We'll see what this year brings!!
  8. I'm going to give away a turkey call, not sure what kind yet. Any successful youth hunter that scores will qualify to win. It's going to be very simple. Post a short story about your hunt and a picture of yourself with your bird. You can give the stats on your bird but it will not count towards my decision on the winner. It will be based solely on the quality of your picture and the content of the story. As soon as I decide which call to give away I will post a picture of it. Entry deadline for this contest will be April 24, 2013 at 9:00pm EST. Good luck to all participants in the youth hunt this year. ** This is not run by HuntingNY.com
  9. I'll be taking my nephew out next weekend. So far the long range forecast looks good even though it is snowing there right now. Good luck and be safe!!
  10. iI was asked to answer and I did. I'm as lightened up as I can be. You guys may want to look up the word perception. Maybe it'll enlighten some of you.
  11. I answered your question twice. Obviously you didn't notice that either. I'm thinking you may be related to those guys.
  12. Go back and read my posts and you'll see that I didn't miss the fact that they are established in that community. These guys are morons and the show is moronic and thus the perception people, non-hunters, get from watching them is the perception they'll have about all hunters.
  13. James Harrison makes the best owl hooter. IMO
  14. WNY they only have tracking rights if they know those landowners. The people that live in those areas are not the friendliest of folks. I know because I hunted up there for 5 years. Most of them just look down their noses at you if you're not one of them. The reason they make hunters look like morons is because they are morons. Perception of hunter's is depicted by these guys? They could have done much better in picking a "crew" to film. Bottom line is that the show sucks!!! IMO
  15. I have bowhunted in New Canaan and there is no way on earth that you're going to walk through people's yards at night with a flashlight looking for a deer. Not in that neighborhood you're not. You'd have the SWAT team surrounding you in a matter of minutes!! The show was stupid and so is the concept they chose of producing it. Makes hunter's look like a bunch of morons. The show is staged and the reason they have places to hunt is because of his ties to that community through his family.
  16. What a stupid arse show!! Hope it doesn't last long at all!!
  17. My father is up there and fished it today. He caught 2 browns this morning, one was 20" and the other was 14'. He said he didn't get his first hit till 8am and he started fishing around 6am.
  18. Non -resident unless you move there and change over all of your ID's and status.
  19. TRUE!! However, there were quite a few nice people that I met there over the years. The biggest problem is that a lot of them wanted the deer taken out by means of hunting but they were afraid of what the neighbors would say. So a lot of them became a NIMBY, not in my back yard. For a time some of the local people started a website and listed the names and address's of their neighbor's who allowed hunting on their property. Because of that a lot of these open minded homeowners bowed down to the pressure from the non-hunting community and closed their doors to hunting. Yet they all bitch and moan about there being too many deer and the deer-auto collisions in the town. Like I said it was a good thing while it lasted. It was an hour drive from door to door and it was great for a one day or half day hunt.
  20. I used to bowhunt in New Canaan. Lots of deer and some really good bucks in that area. I went back there a couple if years ago to knock on some doors to find some new hunting spots. My buddy and I were later pulled over by the local police and told, very nicely I might add, that it was illegal to knock on doors to procure hunting spots. So with that we gave up on hunting that area of the state and the entire state as well. I'll stick with NY and IL!!
  21. They were right near each other, within a couple of feet. These sheds which were found in 2003 were found together as well. Both sets were found this time of year as well.
  22. These sheds were found on my IL hunting grounds. That's my friend/landowner holding them. Hope to see him this year!!!
  23. Tim I gave up on the vests a long time ago and switched over to a multi compartment fanny pack. Fits everything I need and is much easier to work with and much lighter. In the fall I go even lighter with a longbox in a holster and two potcalls in a holster/pouch. I also carry a couple of mouth calls. I've found this to be a much better system for me and my style of hunting.
  24. Joe you're very welcome!! Use it in good health and kill many a longbeard with it!! NY Antler thank you for the comment. I just enjoy helping others when I can.
