The judges and myself have come up with an idea to get the youngsters motivated and thinking about the spring youth hunt. It's going to be an informative contest and give us a pulse of what today's youth hunters feelings are about the sport. There are only a few rules to the contest and here they are... 1. All youth hunters that will be participating in the spring youth season need to submit a story as to what he/she likes most about turkey hunting. That's it plain and simple. 2. Deadline to enter will be 12:00am on April 15 and the winner will be announced on April 21. 3. Voting for the winner will be done by the HNY members, and not by the Youth Hunt Contest judges, between April 16-20. So members please take an active part in the voting. 4. The winner will receive a nice prize. Not yet determined but leaning towards a gift certificate to a sporting goods store. If any members have a youth they'll be taking on the spring youth hunt please get them involved in this fun contest. THIS CONTEST IS NOT BEING RUN BY HNY

This thread will serve as the official rules and entry thread for the youth hunt. This year there will be three judges... Wooly, Paula and myself. We will judge the contestants based on the following rules... 1. The youth hunter or mentor must submit a picture of the youth or of the two of them with their harvest. 2. A brief story of the hunt, preferably written by the youth, must be submitted. 3. You must post both your picture and story on this thread only!!! PLEASE DO NOT START ANOTHER THREAD FOR THE CONTEST ENTRY!! 4. The deadline for submitting your entry is 12:00am ( midnight ) on April 29. So if you harvest a bird make sure to enter it on this thread before then!! The winner will be chosen based on a combination of best picture and story submitted. The size of the bird WILL NOT be taken into account, although we encourage that you post the birds stats. As far as the judges are concerned all birds harvested are a trophy!! There will be some great prizes given away this year and we wish everyone a safe and successful hunt!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!! This is not run by HuntingNY.com

My good friend Michael Kensinger is an artist and a coupe of weeks ago I told him I wanted one of his original paintings. I wanted it to be turkey related. This is what he came up it. I absolutely love it!! Just waiting for him to mat it and ship it. I also a couple of his black and white prints. Michael sells his work and if you're interested check him out on Facebook.

Deer, rabbit and pheasant that I either hit or seen get hit. I would never eat road kill that was just laying there. As Growie said who's to say what it died from.

Winter Storm Coming...Be Safe Out There!!
letinmfly replied to letinmfly's topic in General Chit Chat
Updated again!! This is gonna suck!!! -
They just updated the predicted snowfall amounts and as of now they're saying 20-30" for western LI and 24-36'' for eastern LI. Wind gusts are going to be between 65-80mph. Of course these numbers could change and lets hope for the better. The 12" they were talking about this morning sure is a welcome number right now!! Everyone in the path of this storm be careful and be safe!!
-
If you go to www.goodmorningamerica.com today only they are $65!! They are more then likely a limited quantity but you can give it a shot. They normally sell for $130.

My plans for this year's Youth Spring Hunt have fallen through. I am available to try and help any youth hunter, who doesn't have a mentor, bag a bird on the youth hunt. If any members on here have a youth hunter you'd like to introduce to turkey hunting and you're not very confident in hunting them please let me know if I can help you and your hunter on this hunt. I will be more then happy to help call and pass along any info that will help you now and in the future. I'm not the best turkey hunter out there but I can hold my own. I am willing to travel up to 2.5 hours give or take from Long Island. I really enjoy helping young hunters get involved in the sport and it will be my pleasure to help. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM and we can discuss details. Youth hunt this year is April 25-26.

If they stopped all Buck hunting.
letinmfly replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Deer Hunting
I'd look into getting a couple of Beagles again and get back into rabbit hunting. This assuming you mean that buck hunting was stopped across the country. Otherwise I'd keep hunting Illinois!! -
As far as I know there aren't any ranges that will allow you to shoot buck shot of any size to sight in/range. I patterned my gun at 20, 30 and 40 yards and I shot numerous different loads, meaning brand...shot size and shell length. I shoot a Mossberg 835 but found that my gun shoots Winchester Premium HV 3" shells in a 5 shot the best at all distances. I've killed birds as close as 5 yards and as far away as 50 yards with this ammo. Try different ammo and shoot at different distances, you want to be confident about your gun and ammo and with the ability to kill a bird out to whatever distance you feel comfortable with.

I believe his name is Buck. Is this him? http://www.heycoloradobuck.com/
