That's a nice view!!

I don't remember seeing a mount the way you're describing. Usually the head is turned to one side or the other, like the one in the pic you posted. I'm sure a good taxidermist can alter the form to replicate what you're looking for. Good luck with it and post a pic after the mount is completed!!

Congratulations on your new addition!!

Here's one I had done with an open mouth back in 1995. I really like the open mouth poses.

Happy Birthday bud!!

If I were you I would take the meat out of those "supermarket" packages and double wrap them in freezer paper. They'll last longer that way.

My area of 4O was hit with a large winter kill this year. My neighbor took a walk through the woods behind his house in early spring and found 8 carcasses within a couple of hundred yards of his house. Last deer season me and my hunting partner saw deer every day but this year was quite the opposite scenario. He didn't see any deer in four days of hunting and I saw two bucks in the same time period. Hopefully this winter will be kinder to the wildlife.

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
letinmfly replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Biz it is a double drop. Not so easy to see from pic. Bittersweet way to end my season though as this is the last buck I will harvest up here as we are selling the place. It ended on a good note!! -

In 2003 I was bow hunting in IL and I shot a big buck. The shot, I saw later, wasn't exactly perfect. The buck took off after the shot and I waited about an hour before climbing down. I looked for blood but it ran out quickly, so I followed his tracks in the dirt. As I was staring at the ground I hear a deer take off from the wood line. I look up and I see a big buck taking off across the field but he didn't seem right. I had an idea of where he was headed so I ran to my truck and headed to where he was going. As I'm driving up the road I see him cross a couple of hundred yards ahead of me. When I get to where I can see him I pull off the road and watch him start to cross the field when he suddenly lays down. I'm watching him through my binoculars and all of a sudden I see a doe come running across the field as she's being chased by a 140" class 8 pointer. Both deer stop and look at my buck and all of a sudden he jumps up and chases off the 8 pointer. He didn't go too far as he had bled out quite a bit by then. He laid down again and finally expired after about 5-10 minutes. Even in death the power of the rut took over.

DEC should help out in this situation.

Here's another option... You were fortunate enough to harvest a buck and a doe already. Let it go and work with what you have. You're already way ahead of where most hunters will be come seasons end.

Rob you're right the bond wasn't all due to the camp. However the camp was the catalyst that grew our relationship. Growing up I was a typical teenager, I knew everything and my father knew nothing. After spending many hours and days together at camp I realized that I was the one that really knew nothing. Lol I truly learned to appreciate the man. Needless to say he is my hero!!! That's a classy move on your part. Actually the new owners told my father that I could still deer hunt if I wish. That's very considerate on their part but I just can't bring myself to be up there knowing that my father will be back home on LI.

Congrats!! I like the character of that rack.

The era lasted 30 years but it has come to an end...sadly!! Our hunting/summer camp has been for sale for the last three years and two weeks ago my father accepted an offer on the place. My father purchased the land in 1985 and soon there after he put a mobile home on the land. It has served us well and many memories were created with family and friends. Like all good things it has now come to an end. To say that I'm saddened by it is an understatement. My father and I developed a special bond over the years, hunting and fishing together. It's going to be strange not sharing deer camp with him this season, he hasn't hunted do to health reasons for 6 years now but never missed being in camp. I've enjoyed 35 years worth of opening weeks with him and over that time we became best friends. This is a very emotional time for me and I'm sure some of you can relate. I thank my father for introducing me to hunting and the great outdoors and also for having purchased this place 30 years ago!! I hope the new owners will enjoy it as much as we did and make their own memories.
