my buddy that is on the permit with me - his grandfather and a buddy went years ago and they got a moose. They never told anyone which one of them shot it or if they both shot it, they just said they together got a moose. We are gonna do the same thing if we get the chance.

would love to post pics here of BMD! Have a friend with a family camp up in section 6 near the border that we can use. would love to do this one time. If it happens will setup a thread for that week cause it ought to be interesting. An issue we already see is trying not to bust out laughing when doing the "im a hot moose cmon over here" call. lol. I know a guy that drew one for NH and he tagged second day. Burnt out the winch on his 4 wheeler trying to get the moose out. He hooked the winch to it and it dragged the wheeler to the moose. So then he put the wheeler against a tree and burnt out the winch. Then he finally got it out with a combo of clearing and dragging and tarps. My plan is to quarter it at least.

what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
yup thats what i do esp careful anything over 35 -45. gives a little leverage for a skittish deer for a few inches of possible drop. The 3D targets are all mostly 10 ring dead middle. I like the heart aim, except when I am in a tree stand 20 yard and under I will go right in that higher 10 ring for the downward sharper angle. -
gonna try to get out this weekend! want to shoot some freehand

what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
The one I shot at 35 like I said, didnt flinch so I got him in the heart. But sometimes they do. My newest bow is def quieter but they all still make a little noise. And have had deer looking right my way just as I shot or when it is real quite and they are spooky anyway. You've never had a deer flinch from a bow shot? Then consider yourself lucky. But I give that extra couple of inches for 35 to 45 yards in case they do. I have had a deer jump string a few years ago and by taking a little bit of a lower shot haven't had a problem since. -
Will take an 870 over that any day. Cause I can hunt anything from turkeys to ducks to deer. Good luck hunting with that. Unless your hunting canned goods in the grocery store.

That's why at 35 and over I aim for low heart. If they don't jump you heart them. If they do you get lungs. If you do miss it's low and deer walks. Def hard to guess if they will jump string. Heart punched one last year at 35 also didn't jump string. But was ready if it did. -
They are pretty common round here. A couple of outfits from munnsville operate them. Was in a deer stand one time 3 years ago and had one over my head and didnt even know it. Heard the noise from the fire thing once or twice and was wondering WTH it was. Then they got real close and hit it and i looked up and they were pretty close above me. Probably seeing a huge buck 100 yards away and laughing at me .

i dont worry about string jump on deer at 20-25 yards casue they dont have time to react. But the 35-45 i do worry as they can drop before arrow gets there. -
its 10 degrees here. Brrrrrrrrr.........

This was just outside my office. Can't imagine being in that today....

i was hoping it wasnt coyote cause it looked good. Saw a hunting show where a guy went after ostrich with his bow. That looked like a hoot for sure. He shot it and the whole group took off running - that would be a crazy hunt.

Boot Suggestions
Robhuntandfish replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
i have 3 pairs of boots for hunting. Have one set of real light hikers for turkey and those early season bow - too warm days, then a set of muck boots for the swampy spots and a set of heavier insulated boots for the cold weather. I still buy a thinsulate boot as most days its enough, but when it gets real cold , I add in a set of heavy socks and toe warmers. Dont like the rubber boots when its too hot or too cold or for a lot of walking . Best overall would think is a pair of light insulated with real waterproof bottom half. -

love fish tacos. I use pico de gallo as well. I like a coleslaw sauce and lime vinagrette mix with it. It was an experiment and it stuck! And def perch and walleye fillets are great for this . -
Ostrich.....

Really I am picking a .22/410 combo 12 gauge and then prob an 30-06 or 308. Ammo is common and can hunt and defend with this group. No pistol. I'm not a big pistol guy. If issues are that close that I couldn't solve with the 12 then I'm already in trouble. Would take a crossbow for quiet hunting before a pistol. A pistol is just a way to get me to a real gun.

I'm picking these and I want Daryl to use them. I'm gonna hide like a little girl.

what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
I would say you should be able to hit the target with the bow with a good overhand throw at 20 yards from frustration! lol kidding .... it really isnt too long a learning curve with a compound bow, sights, a release and some practice its not unreasonable to think you would be shooting 2" groups at 20 yards and be effective out to 40. The most important part is getting it setup right for you with draw length and a good anchor. But be prepared for few arrows to be placed in the woods for a bit when you first start. lol. Happens to everyone. -
was watching one of those Encon officer shows and they were giving a guy a hard time about cutting the horns off a dead deer. Said that he isnt supposed to possess any part of a deer without a tag for it. First I thought what a jackhole, then thought well what about shed hunting ? Wonder if anyones ever been given grief for this?

well the range aint where it counts. Shooting aint hunting ! Just means your a good hunter that can get the setup to get them in close. If not the longest shooter then be sure the targets are close and make it count. The way we all should look at it! -
