what is acceptable accuracy with your bow?
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
i will try that out. My bow is dialed in for sure , heart punched a doe at 35 yards this year. But it seems like I take those couple of pratice shots and then think i need to tweak stuff once i get into the 20-30 shots.. lol. I used to do 3D shoots and shoot a lot of arrows. Seems like the one shot and make it count has worked great for me. I wont shoot father than 45 yards just because of string jump and I only have pins to 40 to keep me from doing it. I dont generally practice farther than 45 cause I only have a 20,30,40 yard pins. -

tough call on what to buy. Most of mine have been gifts so i have 5 different ones. But have had good luck with all of them for the most part. I would say the bushnells that i have that were cheaper have had to replace after 4-5 years. But at the price that isnt too bad for a $40 cam. The PITA on having all different brand cams is trying to remember the setup for each one.

New casino in Catskills anyone go yet
Robhuntandfish replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
they do. The breakfast one is also good. The golf courses are amazing. The one that is PGA is way outa my price range but when I worked there i have been on the course. Incredible. The other ones by the casino I have played them all. In October there is a 1/2 price discount if you play after 2 pm. So me and a buddy played them a few times. Also there is a 9 hole there that is the toughest ever. Dont need a driver for it but you better be on with your irons or its a lost ball for sure. Turning stone is def shinier and better put together for events than some others I have seen around. They also have some high fence hunting if you want, can get a 200 inch buck for like $10,000 lol. They also have a salmon fishing lodge is pulaski. -
I found myself doing better with less shooting practice this last year. If I shoot too much I am over tinkering with the pins etc and I start to be inconsistent the more I shoot in a day... But I feel at 20 yards arrows should basically be touching everytime. At 30 in the bull and at 40 basically touching the outer ring of the bull - in 4" group. The farthest i will shoot would be 45 , but this would have to be a broadside shot on a deer that isnt spooky and I would aim low heart in case it string jumps. I drive myself a little nuts with the bow sometimes and tinkering to be on. But this last year I found if i shot twice a week in the summer, three shots - one 20,30,40 ( in different orders) that i was a better shot consistantly. I would tell myself this is the shot that counts and you only get one! I have a good anchor point and seem to retain the same form when shooting even without mega practice. Im thinking its prob from years of lots of practice though. Whats acceptable accuracy for you ? and do you shoot over and over to get it?

i just in general have always zeroed eveything at 100. From shotgun to rifle. But thinking I need to follow the ballistics a little more. My shotgun with Hornady - prob should setup for 2" high at 100 which puts me dead on at 150 and 2.5 inches high at 50. Then the 30-06 prob should do 1" high for a dead on at 150 and 3" drop at 200. But i am just used to all my guns being dead on at 100. Then I adjust from there. I know the shotgun will be about a 4-5 inch drop at 150 (would never shoot it farther) then my 30-06 is about 4" drop at 200. Prob over thinking it as I have never shot over 200 and am generally a lot closer than that. But i am also the guy that thinks with the bow there is no excuse for all the arrows not touching at 20 yards.

well i filed the area and went to remount scope and busted the screw on the scope ring. Yup stronger than smarter! lol So gotta get a new scope ring and try it again. -
must be nice to be able to walk around in less than 20" of snow. Even with the warm weekend there is no use shed hunting here yet

i live right near two of them. Turning stone is more of a resort and casino for sure . Nice golf courses. concerts, events etc. The racino (run by NYS) at Vernon downs is a dump. Its almost been bankrupt twice now. The state should not be running casinos. This should be done by private industry as all business should be. The state cant even run themselves without corruption and making it a mess, what makes them think they can run a casino. If they want a casino open it up for business to be run by the private sector. -

Don't give up on her yet. She also has some serious bourbon connections too. One of the reasons I love Shania Twain is because of her Canadian residency. Among other things.....lol -
Got a buddy that makes smoked rainbow trout. Def very good.

Hate to say it but would rather they did move operations out of NY then go under. At least they would still be open, hate to see a longtime American gun company go out of business. -
Good shooting, yotes are in trouble

Have seen on news that Del Lago is down 100 mil from projections. How many casinos do we need on ny? Not a good replacement for real businesses IMO. Have the turning stone casino right down the road from me. Used to date a girl that liked to go there. She would gamble and I would tell her I was gonna go try a different machine. So I went and found a spot for a beer and a roast beef sandwich and watched the Yankee game. She'd ask how I did ....I told her I did good , only lost $20. I worked there as a second job for 3 years and just couldn't give any money back to them. At least with a sandwich and a beer I got something out of it. -
Dinner out at a local restaurant. Wed night is a work night so not too much planned.

Nice catch. Been hearing of on and off catches. Always seem to be more burbot caught off the ice. I didn't see one all summer. Wonder why the ice fisherman catch so many..... -
Erin Hamlin from Remsen (just north of Utica) led the US out by carrying the flag. Pretty cool. She won gold in the luge in the last winter Olympics.

Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
yup its just a straight rail. A guy at work suggested filing the rail a little to see if can get a better grab the guy at gun shop said he wouldnt drill and tap into the gun , these you attached look like they would work great. Might have to ask another shop about putting those on - thanks -
scope creeping ...... on 12 g.
Robhuntandfish replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
i had just basic scope mounts on the rail that was on the gun. Didnt put anything too expensive as i paid under $200 for the gun. it only has a front end sight and had this 2.5 scope at the house and it was a good fit but cant get it to stop sliding forward. Both rings slide forward with the scope . -
i do that same thing and my range is 100 as well. But do you ever go an inch or higher at 100 to adjust to ballistics for like a better 200 shot or just stay at the 100 for the bullseye?
