Well as they say getting old is a bitch. Over the last 2 years I developed cataracts in both eyes that have resulted in cloudy vision and my ophthalmologist is scheduling me to have them removed this summer. We discussed the different types of lenses that will be used and right now I am leaning towards standard lenses set for clear distance vision in both eyes. My only concern is whether I will be able to clearly see the front sights on my shotguns and the sights on my handguns at arm's length. If anyone has had cataract surgery I would appreciate it if you would let me know what lens you selected and what your experience has been after the surgery for hunting and shooting. Any suggestions from other hunters who have had cataract surgery will help me decide on which lens I will choose and which ones to avoid. I am not concerned with my rifles as they all have quality scopes on them and can be adjusted. I want to be able to see the front sight on my shotguns for waterfowl and small game hunting in addition to shooting my handguns with iron sights. Thanking everyone who responds in advance. valoroutdoors.com

I bought that same trailer 1 year ago in a 6' x 12' size. I am very satisfied with it. The dealer advised me to apply sealer to the wood floor and I used Olympic Waterguard on the floor which I would recommend you do to protect the wood. valoroutdoors.com

My son had to put down his house pet dog 2 months ago. We had talked about him getting a Labrador retriever to retrieve ducks we hunt in our marsh and geese in our fields. Well he found a local litter and pulled the trigger on a AKC black Lab pup. The puppy will be ready for pickup at the end of the first week of March. The litter consisted of 3 blacks, 3 yellows, and 2 chocolates, and both parents were hunting stock. My daughter in law named him "Gunner" which I think is a great name. I am looking forward to working with him and hunting with Gunner next season. My son's next door neighbor has a pond which we can use to train him. This will be our first retriever and I hope to post updates in the future. valoroutdoors.com

I have both a 7mm-08 and a .243. I carry the 7mm-08 just about all of the time and I love it. Every deer I have shot with it have been 1 shot kills. I would choose the 7mm-08. If you get one you probably will never carry your .30-06 again. I personally think that a .30-06 is too much gun for whitetail deer anyway. Whatever you choose good luck to you. I think you will enjoy a lighter rifle with less recoil and less meat damage. valoroutdoors.com

Chef I believe (and I hope) you meant to say that any deer killed legally is a trophy. If so you may want to edit your reply. I can't believe that you intentionally said that "any deer killed illegally is a trophy." valoroutdoors.com

This makes 3 weekends in a row of below zero and dangerous wind chill temperatures. This sure is getting old. There's only so much you can do inside the house. I'm looking forward to the predicted warmup next week. valoroutdoors.com

Rob if you like to spend money on hunting necessities like we all do, here are some items you will want to add. 1. Waterfowl choke for your shotgun 2. Duck calls and lanyard for calls. 3. Blind bag. 4. Neoprene decoy gloves 5. Lanyard to carry ducks if you score lol 6. Floating shotgun case 7. Face paint or face mask. 8. The Finisher duck tool. 9. Waterproof camo clothing. And all of this is assuming you are walking in and retrieving your kills. If you get into a boat and dog you can easily end up in the poor house! Good luck. valoroutdoors.com

Prayers sent for your brother. valoroutdoors.com -
He had such a wonderful voice and recorded some classic songs that will live on. I don't care about how much he weighed. His voice was much larger and will be always enjoyed. RIP Meatloaf and my condolences to your family. valoroutdoors.com.

We are in for another round of below zero and dangerous wind chill temperatures the next couple of days. Everyone stay warm and stay safe. This is cabin fever weather for sure. valoroutdoors.com

I shot this guy on New Years Day. The limit was 1 bird per day here. I breasted him out and brined the breasts for 2 days in the refrigerator. Then I made barbecue pulled goose in the slow cooker. Meat was delicious with absolutely no gamey taste. valoroutdoors.com

Yes brine your mallard breasts for the same period of time. Again the secret is to remove all the blood from the breasts. You would be marinading them in your cranberry juice and pepper corn mix and that would be fine. You could marinade them in your favorite marinade. Brining will remove the blood and marinade will add whatever flavor you want to the meat. valoroutdoors.com

Goose or duck breasts are delicious if properly prepared. First off you must brine them for 1-2 days in your refrigerator. Start out with a brine solution. Change the water frequently every 6-8 hours reducing the salt each time until you are using plain tap water. You want to remove all blood from the breasts. Then pat dry the breasts before cooking. My favorite easy slow cooker recipe for barbecue pulled goose is attached. It is absolutely delicious and very easy to make. valoroutdoors.com. https://blog.americanexpedition.us/bbq-pulled-goose-recipe/

I hunt in the Western zone and duck season overlaps part of the early archery season and part of the regular firearms season for deer. One day this last October my son and I went duck hunting in the morning and bow hunting in the afternoon. We got a couple of ducks in the morning and my son shot a beautiful 8 point buck that afternoon. We called it a "duck and buck day." valoroutdoors.com

I use Texas Rigs on my duck and geese floating decoys. The heavy mono line has a clip that attaches to the keel of the decoy and has a sliding egg sinker on the other end. You can wind the line on the keel and when you get to water you unwind the line and toss the decoys into the water. They usually have a loop at the clip end so you can pick them up and drag a bunch of them through the water when you walk in or out. valoroutdoors.com.

This article should answer your questions. Mine have done the same. You have condensation on the inside of the panes which has frozen. valoroutdoors.com. https://www.4feldco.com/articles/windows-leaking/

I woke up this morning to a temperature of -5 degrees with a wild chill of -18 degrees. It doesn't take long to get frostbite in these conditions. Be careful if you go outdoors. Cover all exposed skin and dress in warm layers. Stay safe. valoroutdoors.com https://www.almanac.com/windchill-chart-united-states
