  1. I'm 100% sure that deer was the one I shot on open day of firearms in 2013. Was a 22 yard shot broadside. Nice rest against a 20" birch tree. I could understand if I just found the deer, knowing someone else shot him. I guess if this situration has never happen to an individual, it's easier to make the call. I am still undecided what to do. Not one for just mounting the rack on a piece of wood. Thought about European but a deer of this caliper deserves so much more.
  2. Sometimes, you do get a different hide from a taxidermist. Edit; deer hide
  3. His antlers had no chew, what so ever. I 'm still in shock, that I recovered him! Wooly, thank you so much for your journal posts and getting me started in shed hunting again. Your da man!
  4. Congrats WNY. on all your deer kills and adventures. Are you shed hunting?
  5. I wouldn't hunt that location, given the light factor. Hunt a brighter location nearby, for safety reasons. One never knows who could show up, human wise. That's just me though
  6. I did see this somewhere else. Excellent article.
  7. He laid facing away from the stand several hundred yards away. No second guessing here, One hundred percent sure! Now the question being; do I get a shoulder mount made up? He scored 141 4/8".
  8. I got out this afternoon with some light snow falling. Some bluebirds flying branch to branch floundering my arrival. It was very nice to visit some spots that I haven't seen since April. I have had a certain buck, that I had 3 encounters with during the 2013 season. Two in archery; the last, the opening afternoon of firearms season which had me at a head on stare down that lasted at least 45 seconds. Staring him in the scope as he, staring up at me in the stand. He turned broadside, and I sent lead his way. No blood sign anywhere. We searched hours, day, weeks, months for this deer in hopes of a recovery, but to no avail. I was sick to my stomach. Many emotions going through me during the rest of the season. Well today, I found him. Thank you God!
  9. Would be nice to start a co-op with other members on here, to purchase from Welters.
  10. Actually, anyone that really knows me wouldn't have to ask any of those questions. Sunset was 4:39 and I was unloaded 15 minutes before that due the the central dense overcast. I kept saying we have a lot of deer here. Those were the ones that showed during daylight. The thickets were moving with action with loads of nocturnal ones. Little worried if we have a harsh winter what the survival rate will be.
  11. Dog gone it, we had 27 deer come in after 4:50 this afternoon, then lost count. Not an antler among them. Some of the body sizes suggested we start looking for sheds.
  12. Congrats grow. Looks like the sausage going to get made after all, LOL.
  13. One last. Hope their playing our song honey, LOL cough cough. Playing gone with the east wind. Good luck everybody going or at a field.
  14. Woke up at 4 am.. Something told me to get out in the field before this front moved in, Sure enough deer moved, in legal light too. Lined up on a big doe, but 250 yards. No way I'm taking that shot. Moved slowly down to 100 yards. Where there is one deer, their is more, Sure enough, her 2 fawns were following. I lined up on both, but just couldn't pull the hammer back because of size. One more try this afternoon.
  15. I missed three days since October 1st on two farms. Thirty miles round trip to the other farm. Hunted there 10 days. I'll walk on an average of two mile a day easy. Thank goodness the Muck boots feel like bedroom slippers.
  16. We had a flood of deer visit overnight. Some big hoof prints which has me excited for the upcoming shed hunting. Last couple days of deer hunting. Maybe one set of sheds may just hit the ground attached, LOL. I hope!
  17. Got into my veins along time ago. Theirs another thread on starting the youth out at an early age that nails it for me. I went out hunting pheasant, rabbit, woodcock, and coon with my relatives back in the 60's. It"s apart of who I am and what I stand for. I stand tall and proud to say I'm a hunter. Way beyond the veins today, it's in my blood!
  18. I'm sure they can set anyone up on a payment plan. Wonder if they can charge interest?
  19. The list is published for a deterrent. Think it works?
  20. That is really a nice knife and sheath. Surely, one of a kind. The mirror polish looks like new. I trust you buff every so often the way it looks.
