  1. Seen no mention of it on nyantlers web site. Got to be one of the widest racks ever taken in New York. Any green score?
  2. Don't really care about pics posted, wolf coyote or otherwise. I'm more concerned about a DEC. coverup. Yes boys and girls, it just could be possible. Chew on that!
  3. Grow, get your mark on the target, then will know for sure. Could be another "No Mans Land" hit deer that survived, as pistolp71 said.
  4. Looks like a broadhead went in or right through. Looks close to the spinal cord too. Been seeing a fair share of wounded deer here, More than usual. Someone needs to do more practicing or stop shooting on the run. More in likely, both.
  5. Ouch! That hurts far worse than a boo boo. Hope you guys know each other, LOL.
  6. Please elaborate on this golf ball method. It just might be par for the coarse.
  7. Nice evening sit last night, with some great encounters in the corn. Sunshine give way to cloudy skies which brought the deer in just after legal light. Five yearlings showed around 250 yards out feeding slowly out 80 or so rows. A nice 2 1/2 year old 8 point surfaced in the hedge row for a moment, then stepped out giving a nearly perfect bow shot. Several motherless doe fawns followed the buck then headed into the heavier loss of corn deeper in the field. A good size doe brought her two smaller fawns into the field just after 5. They nursed 60 yards to the right of me. This am. was a bust in the corn, so I moved into the woods, downwind on a good deer run. A good size doe fawn ate her way across my shooting lane. The autumn olive leaves seem to be a good draw, at this point of the game. Not long after, a limping 6 point moved in following her. I could clearly see, he had been shot in the right front leg. Made a quick decision to not shoot him, as he was getting around rather fine. I watched them several minutes, with the doe going bush mellows started to bush nibbling off the green leaves with him following. Maybe he will yield his sheds close by, starting my shed hunting adventures earlier this year.Wind started blowing rather strong out of the south and hot chocolate started sounding good at this point. No harvests, but some super fine encounters for this time of the year. On a side note, another Saturday with very few shots here. I don't know if the hunter numbers are down, or people are just not seeing the deer.
  8. Most of it will be back in Lake Erie by next Tuesday, so it can do it all over again.
  9. Cuomo's in town, he can go shovel it out. He's good at shoveling stuff!
  10. We shoot most deer in tough conditions. Have for several years now. Really, the deer don't seem to mind this weather. Nothing like freezing your fingers while reaping the rewards of gutting a deer, LOL.
  11. Their starting to hit the food plots again here, after a 4 week stretch idle. Was a lot of food around. Now with the colder weather and snow fall, not so much
  12. Round two of more lake effect snow in progress. Some of these areas have more snow in two days, than was recorded all of last winter combined. When all said and done, some will have ninety inches on the level. The machinery being use for snow removal is jaw dropping. Stone quarry size. Keep it safe; good luck to all those affected. A light at the end of the tunnel this weekend. I remember snow like this back in 1966. Have pictures of the 1963 storm when I was just a lad. Of coarse, the all time 1977 blizzard. If their are more pics, please post them up. The news media has tunnel vision, as usual.
  13. What an awesome afternoon hunt. Set up on a fresh cut corn field. My son was sitting on the radish. Snow started falling and the wind dropped.Gun was covered with snow. Had to keep wiping it off. Fawns started popping out just after 3;30. Crossed 15 yards to the front, right to left. Noticed one dark tarsels on one the large fawns.Just maybe, I could not be so lucky, LOL. Sure enough, a buck we call Chocolate, showed to the left of me. Sure was nice to see him again after a 2 year drought. Had no safe shot, so watched as he headed behind the fawns. He sprouted into one fine animal though. Another buck right behind. This buck wasn't near the size of Chocolate. I passed on him. Nice encounter on both animals. Get a text from my son. He has a nice doe down front. He asked me if he should shoot. I say, hell yes! Not long after, a shot rang out. I sat watching 7 other deer, but visibility had dropped in the falling snow, no safe shoot. Went up at 5 to help find the doe. Not much blood to follow on this deer. Laid about 47 yards, just inside the woods.
  14. My son harvested this 134 lb.live weight doe just after 4 this afternoon. Nice heart shot at 67 yards. Little recovery and little to no blood trail.
  15. Plastic jackets should never be used more than once with grease pole strippers.
  16. This storm reminds me of the 2000 firearms opener, where we were hauling my sons 147" cow-deer out in heavy snow with lightning and thunder. Had the tractor stuck in the snow. I'll never forget that night.
  17. Studies show a lot of human scent goes right out the head. Get one of those scent control head gear thingers. When you least expect it, it will happen. Now go out there, get a nice deer, and for pete sake, enjoy!
