Yes, another firearms season is about to begin in the Southern Zone. Please be careful with firearms and treestands. Lets make this the safest year ever in New York. Enjoy your time afield, and last but not least; post your stories and deer here for all to enjoy. Good luck!

Hope one of them come in for you, Deerthug. Good luck! Will you take a nice doe?

Bear for the book with flint arrowhead

Congrats on that big bruiser! Can you give a little more detail on the broadhead mounting on a modern arrow? -
The mature fawns this time of year, the mother graduates to the freezer. Earlier in the season, with younger smaller fawns, mom gets a pass. We try to do our part to keep the doe buck ratio in check.

Could be an early drop from a stressed deer. More common in firearms season though.

Think I will head out to soak up the warmth of the day, even if I don't see a dang thing. May be the last warm day for a while. Good luck all!4

My son's deer, 23 yard shot right through the heart. Very little tracking job. Nice size frame on this animal. Had been shot, just below the spine some weeks ago.- 71 replies

Congrats grow! I thinks it's great, you helping people out. My son just text me. He just took a 5 pointer. He donated it. These nextbook's take a little getting use to.

All our 3d decoys are in the shed. Haven't been out in years. We have had some luck with the Montana flat buck decoy. Placed on a brush line entrance, some of the bucks have stopped long enough to get an arrow sent their way.

Time to make the snow man decoy grow. Of coarse, snow men are all wet, LOL. Good luck with the deer hunting. Hope to see a pic of your harvest soon! -
I' ve hunted the state and federal preserves by me a few times. I go way in for a few miles. Always try to get elevated, cause you never know who's out there. Chances are, most stay closer to the roads, but it only takes one.

Got out late this morning. 6am.. Deer didn't show till 7:10. Still after the acorns after yesterdays wind. Not many on the ground that I see, but they are finding them under the leaves. Had a beauty of a 4 pt. with a large frame walk 30 some yards upwind. He acted like he didn't have a care in the world,. Would of shot him just for the 70 or so pounds of usable meat he was carring, if only he was an 8. Looked like only a 2 1/2 year old. Hope to find his sheds next March.

They like to harvest shelled corn when the moisture content is 22% or less. Propane cost cut in pretty good on $3.71 a bushel corn over that. Also some combines tend to damage kernals more at higher moistures. The exception would be cob corn mix for the silo, where a higher moisture content is needed.
