  1. My comment was solely based on "my decision" and my decision only, whether to take a crossbow afield. It, in no way, shape, or form affects any other people.season! The safety aspect however, affects every person afield during the crossbow hunting season!
  2. This is a decision, solely left on each hunters standards to which they hunt by. A deer like this one, may be harvest in ones early hunting career, but may walk by later, as the hunter matures. The choice is in your court, on what to do, and it's your and only your call to make! It doesn't matter what word is used. In the end, the final outcome is the only thing that matters!
  3. I was looking forward to taking a crossbow class and don't like how State or DEC slammed crossbow back into the state hunting seasons without the proper training and reintroduction of them, as they did in the first. The DEC. should have been apprised of this situation, and taken steps to amend it. I am very disappointed and feel the state let myself, as well as all crossbow hunters down. I feel that I want to retake the bow class just to go through the crossbow part of the coarse. I talked to a local class bow instructor and he feels that in the classroom training, their is not enough emphasis even put on the crossbow part of the coarse. I would just be taking a spot, that a young'in would fill. He agreed that the state feel far short on crossbow training. I feel as though hunting with a crossbow would be going against my moral values, as well as my safety side for hunting. This leads me to my decision whether or not to take a crossbow afield, this season.
  4. This Reincarnation Station is way off. Says I'm going to come back as a jackass. I've already been called that many times in this life form. LOL.
  5. I had to get fleas, so I missed the opening weekend. I understand the store was jammed pack full of money spending adventures. I know of one person that dropped a grand there.
  6. Yeah, I remember when the hunting guide was little more than a leaflet. Now, it is what, an 80 page booklet and growing. Like Four Season's said, times sure have changed.
  7. Thirty seven inch beans are nothing to shake a yard stick at, LOL. They certainly have had the moisture thou. I don't see any cat tails. Mine are growing very nicely and are six foot tall. Of coarse, lying in water makes them grow well, year like this. Does make good bedding areas. I was suppose to be cutting hay on that field. Can't even get into brush hog right now. Is that legumes coming up in the last pic?
  8. Mammary gland infection. Commonly called mastitis. It's caused by white blood cells released in the mammary gland to fight bacteria build up. It's can happen in deer or any other milk producing mammal.
  9. Started back in 71. Went on many hunts with relatives before that. Your right Doc, what better to learn from through continued generations. Long live hunting! We would harvest over 100 coon a season back then. Some mighty nice pelts. Neighbor ate the meat. Pheasant, squirrel, and rabbit all went on the dinner table. You learned to like the taste or you ate a lot of potato and greens., LOL. Even the left over meat on the bones were enjoyed in some mighty tasty soups. Some mighty nice hunting without the new fangled gagets of today. Those are the most cherished memories, right on top, along with my kids later deer hunting adventures. How I"ll remember them for the rest of my life.
  10. System was working at 2:30, so I zipped into the local town. Things went amazing well. Guy a head of me got 4 doe tags. Had to void 2 out. I got all but the turkey tags. Would not give me turkey tags, LOL.
  11. I just may go to stain the system a little more, LOL.
  12. Up to my ears in mud so I flea yesterday. The fleas were not biting, so I stated making a wish well fountain. Just set it outside, and she'll fill up!
  13. OMG., what has happen to the sky? What is gravity like? Should the rest of us start to worry? LOL.
  14. It took me a little time, but got onto their home web site. Looks pretty darn good to me. I'm adding Runnings, along with the new Bass Pro store in Victor to my " to visit list." Make a shopping spree, family day of it. Thanks for posting Doc. Anyone that visits these new stores, please keep us informed.
  15. My most expensive purchase will be my new rototiller . Someone had to have mine worst then I did, so down the street it went with a few extra bucks in my pocket. Paid for my radish, oat and wheat seed.
  16. People are saying the 4th. I always went with the second Monday in August. I'm a bit confused on this change in the way the DEC. are running things this year.
  17. Not a Sedona but, we have "Soul.". Shes a 13 with about 16 thou on her right now. We looked at others that couldn't even come close in price. Plus Kia's 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty, that we haven't used, is nothing to shake a stick at. Combine this with 34 mph city, 42 highway. Dang good for a non hybrid. Fun little 1.6 L., 6 speed that put the fun into driving again. With my history in the Korean products, it was a no brainer to go with their product.
  18. A gentle reminder for those of you that hunt migratory game birds, to sign up for the Harvest Information Program. Crow, woodcock, snipe, brant, coot, rails, gallinule, sea ducks, ducks and geese. Make sure to carry the number on you, while a field. Failure to carry proof follows the same violation as hunting without a license. I'm not sure if crows are included, but they do ask harvest reports on the questionair. Maybe someone could elaborate on this.
  19. Yeah, it certifies your filled out the crossbow form, LOL. I'm glad the DEC updated when licenses go on sale on their web site. Maybe to busy slamming a bear season through. My head is still spinning, LOL
  20. Always thought is was the second Monday of August, when license went on sale.
  21. Never thought I'd see the day, their would be a bear season in our area. Season dates.
  22. I fear for the untreated seed every time I plant. A dry or wet spell can destroy the seed. I type this as the Lake Effect heavy thunder storms with heavy rain and pea size hail, continue to pound us. One and a half inches of rain since noon. Now flood warnings in effect. Ditches are filling rapidly. Looks like a hold on radish planting for a while.
  23. Do wildlife, that come in contact with it have the same reactions as humans do? What the shelf life of the sap, once exposed to air? If burned, will the smoke" carry contact to the skin," as poison ivy does? Note: It has a main tap root like Queen Ann Lace. Kill the main tap root kills the plant.
  24. I like the ability to get in the field quickly to hunt. A face mask gives me that ability. It also keeps my nose warmer on those cold mornings. Really get quite use to it rather quickly. Later in the season, I feel funny if I don't wear it. Like getting use to a seat belt in a car.
