Yep, same here. No bucks as usual. Saw one other eve bust into a field, does and fawns, cleared it in a blink. No part of that bad boy, lol.

I like to clean the hide up as much as possible, just makes it easier for me. . No reason why u can't skin the hide and freeze it right away. Fleshing can be done later.

We'll here goes; Coming back from a shopping excursion last night, I had a nice, nice, and nice buck cross right in front of the car. He came to a high fence and couldn't jump it, to close. He came back into the road right next to us, and flew right over that wire. All to the amazement of my wife and I. Been scratching like mad ever since, lol.

What worries me the most, is those youth without a mentor. Their will be some.

This youth hunt isn't a fool proof plan. It has some things built into it that could go terribly wrong. And I know, save me the answer, if your that worried, stay home.

The only other advantage taking to a dealer, would be a dealer would look for problem areas, as they keep track with "service bulletins " with are sent out by OEM. They might catch a problem before it turns more serious one. Also, OEM dealers do have to cover themselves by doing good quality repairs. Their over head is much higher then the back yard mechanic, but u expect to pay for the knowledge they bring forth. Believe me, until you own a dealership, one would have no idea.

Can't put my finger on it yet, but something feels different about the SL 10-1 opener. Edit: Never will be completely ready but, it's going to be fun, no matter what.

Be sure to remove all the red meat and fat off the skin. I lay the skin on a home made strecher board You have to do a good job in removing tissue and fat or hair slip will result. A very sharp knife makes the job a lot easier. I layer non iodine salt on my hides for 12 hours. This kills bacteria and reduces hair slip. Remove the excess salt, roll hide, hair side up and put in a plastic bag. Your hide should now be frozen until ready to complete the tanning process. Edit: Some people fold the hides to place in a plastic bag. This is ok, but I don't want to take the chance of fold marks. I prefer rolling.

Trying to make my bow hunter skills the most realist, I grabbed the bow and headed out in the rain this am.. Boy, sure felt good getting all wet shooting that bow. Felt like old times, lol. Now, the ground blind skills need attention, and should be ready for that quick arriving October 1st opener. Anyone else like foul weather bow hunting?

Silage corn is in the bunks here. Some of the early planted grain corn is coming off in a couple weeks.( month early). Except for dairy, all the grain corn is going to the worthless, goverment subsidized, alcohol plant. Farmers here, plow down liquid manure, as it spread.

Owned a Hunter Speciality 52 " umbrella for many years. Thought it was a good idea to lube the piviot points with guns oil every so often. It is of vented type, which I believe is extending it's life. Have used it on those nasty wet days, but doesn't keep u completely dry. The size does extend past your knees, but will dampen your spirits in breezy, windy conditions. The plastic mount has not failed, but I do lube the screw in tree mount with beeswax. It also help with a, non squeek removal sound. To look at it, one would think it a piece of junk, but has stood the test of time and use. Should have purchased several for 8 bucks, but u know how that goes. Edit: Also should note that the mounting location, above u, makes a huge difference on dryness. Paula: I own several of those units. They work great, if u modify the center with an extra cross brace. They do tend to hold water, if not. Got my 1st one, maybe 5 years ago.
