  1. Been a windy one here. Lake effect rain showers through the afternoon to eve, with a little hail thrown in, just to make it nasty. Head cold to complete the day.
  2. We're in the October lull. Deer have even gone off the food plots, nearest I can tell. Their hammering the leaves in the woods big time. Pretty much the norm here. Good luck Eddie.
  3. Congrats. Nice to see a family experience.
  4. And by hunting definition, anytime u disturb or worry wildlife, your hunting. Kinda throws a fly in the ointment doesn't it.
  5. This is another one of those "Gray Areas." I can see a ticket coming for state revenue.
  6. By definition, a person is hunting even if they disturb or worry wildlife whether or not they result in taking. Was told by gun safety coarse instructor as well as ECO's that this is a "Gray Area" If they feel a need to issue a ticket, they will.
  7. Nice purchase. Dicks is always willing to deal. They can make local decisions in the store, which is a plus in my boat. I made some great buys in our local store.
  8. Congrats on your first deer. Show that deer off, full mount indeed.
  9. Those fatty doe. Think their is as much fat as meat on them sometimes. When I pull the cape, and see all that fat; oh man!
  10. We always hang by the neck or antlers. Drains better, and those that butcher themselves know what I'm talking about. Also, sometimes the head will swell, if hung by the hind legs. To each their own.
  11. Would say that 75% of our leaves are already on the ground. Seems early for October 18th. Seems like we've had our share of high winds already this season. Tonight gust front went through dry, but the leaves blew to the next county, LOL. More should be on the ground , so hunting the woods in the morning, Good luck everyone. Wish u deer success.
  12. Deer here, have stop feeding on the radish. Think the top growth is to rank. I'm still feeding on some of the smaller tubers. Nice mild flavor. Wonder how canning them would turn out? Tried freezing but turn to mush when thawed. Have 3 planting dates on the oats. Little experiment. They eat a patch the size of a kitchen table on the 10" ones, on one plot, not touching the 3" at all. Also summer fallowed the tall ones. The shorter were hay land roto tilled and planted. No fert on any. The young bucks come in and prefer the wheat. The doe and young eating the clover, vetch, fine timothy, and oats. Nothing is touching the turnip. Mornings have them locked up eating leaves from the low growing shrubs and wind drop, in the woods, early light on. Seem to prefer the maple.
  13. From what I have witnessed here, I would say the breeding season has started. Actually witnessed an older buck very interested in a smaller doe. Their was no running, on the part of the doe. Although not witnessed, I would say breeding was taking place., by the actions of the pair. This, in my opinion, is extremely early, but not unusual for this area. I dislike the term rut, and never use it.
  14. A swarm of bees in May, is worth a load of hay. A swarm of bees in June, is worth a silver spoon. A swarm of bees in July, ain't worth a fly. So true, relating to honey bees.
  15. Had 4 above my head this am.. One hen almost flew right into my tree stand. Sitting their with a bow hunting deer, had the perfect bow shot. Dang season don't open till Saturday. Teasers.
  16. Thanks guys. Why do u prefer the beam scale? Do u recommend having both?
  17. Have a flock that I have been keeping an eye on for quite a while, about 18 now. Mostly good size poults but 2 hens and 3 young jakes. The question, how many is too many in an area. Should I take a hen or let them go. This is an area where turkey numbers have been low for years. Edit: I'll post some video as soon as I can figure out how to get it on here.
  18. Not trying to high jack the thread from phade, but say a guy has no scale to weigh BH 209, what would be a good one that don't kill the bank?
  19. Nice choice in guns.I drilled a few rounds out of a CVA Wolf. That sure was a nice accurate weapon. Spot on at 108 yds. They are sure a fun gun to use. I rather enjoy a muzzleloader over my shotgun any day. Used pellets for years, and easy to use. I'd start with them. Read the owners manuel, watch the video and get expect advise, as your doing, from the many members on here, that know mz,. like the back of their hand,
  20. I have to go with G-Man on this one. sounds like u clipped one lung. Arrow slid through with little blood. The tough part is hair on one side. One would think the hair would coat both blades on a Rage.
  21. He's hit harder than u think judging by the reaction and the noise he made. Going to be a long night for ya. Give it the old college try in the morn and good luck!
  22. U did good. Nice buy on a super gun. Good luck with er.
