  1. We like the final phase, Nov 28- Dec7, the big buck harvest stage, lol.
  2. I'm really interested in the spring harvest data 2012. Expect harvest #s to drop low here. But the big guy I saw 2 days ago lifted my spirits.
  3. Welcome aboard.. Indeed, their are some nice ones, smart ones here too. Good luck with your adventure. It's an enjoyable ride.
  4. The DEC. states their are high numbers, as well as low numbers in NYS, all could be in the same WMU.. They complete a 4 year management plan in 2009? turkey survey plan.htm
  5. Some very interesting points brought up, all good ones. Very strong arguements. Makes me wonder how 1000 hunters can make the determination for the whole hunting community. They lean towards the majority, but 1000 hunters at 20 meetings ,come on. Out of all of the 100s of thousand of hunting licenses sold in NY, Then they do a scientific survey, this decides the fate of the 5 year deer plan, OMG. Oh and the 30 day comment period, someone reads them and tosses in the garbage.
  6. Here it is, 2012 map. Moderators, could u pinn this please, thank you. More info: http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/29461.html
  7. Always enjoy your pics. Are the hay fields become more mature, that they are going for more tender vegetation?
  8. The system was moving 65mph there. The way conditions were yesterday , warm front with low pressure, they could of been much worse, primed for tornado, hard to imagine. Good luck with clean up.
  9. I like to practice elevated. Set a stand up in the back yard. Shoot seated. Also standing hold my leg against the side rail of the stand. I'll even practice with one foot on the seat shooting behind. Then again, no fear of heights, but respect. Find it helps with balance. Also harnessed.
  10. I have more trouble getting busted going out to my stands. Cloudy days make it 10x worst. As early as 2pm some days. Also, early bow is bad mornings,5am.. Always bump deer then., sometimes 50 feet from the house. Have warm weather, then a cold front, always happens.
  11. An earlier start to the season would be just fine. Early youth archery would be great. Give the kids the mind set to think they may have that certain advantage. Why not give'm a weapon, they have better chance to fill a tag. Can't wait for my grand children to come out with me hunting, opening day or anytime.
  12. I was at the Gander in Watertown 3 years ago. Brother in law had a bass tourney meeting going on and give me a chance to look around. They stocked a lot of stuff our Tonawanda store never had. Coarse 3 years ago, talking about different kind of Gander. Wonderful area. Could fit right in to that country very nicely, but would have to buy a bigger snow shovel, lol.
  13. Doc, I totally agree with taking kids out during regular seasons, all for that. In today modern life style that children live, the good old basics get tossed on the back burner. Tell me what harm it does with an early youth hunt? That may be just the extra liitle push some of these kids need to introduce them into hunting. We have to do something to raise awareness. Hunting is a dieing sport in this state. Something has to be done to keep it alive.
  14. Glad everything turn out ok. People sometimes do not understand the power, that can be released in this type of storm. That system yesterday, had a series of bow echos. Kinda rare for this area.
  15. Severe thunderstorm warning for Orange county in NY, and Passaic county NJ.. till 7pm... Expect wind gusts to 70 mph. in some areas. Tornado warning for Sullivan county. Rotation detected on radar moving east at 50 mph.. Hope everyone's safe
  16. Like to sit and wait it out, unloaded of coarse. Usually, deer will leave the food plots to browse other areas, then I make my escape. Some people have told me your suppose to be out of the field by sunset, but don't sound right.
  17. No way! Delaware county now has tornado warning TILL 6 PM.. After receiving 1 1/10" of rain, I'm amazed how dry it still is 2 inches down.
  18. Binghamton is now under a tornado warning. Reports of several cars overturned in Elmira. These storms are moving at 65mph, not much time to get to cover. Straight line wind damage is likely, even with no funnels. Grow, hope yours and others are doing ok.
  19. Looks like damage reports are coming in from southern Chemung, southeasten Steuben and southern Tioga county, Broome county, southwestern Chenango. A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for NYC. Long Island, you're next for a watch. Rotation near Elmira, NY, trees down, roofs off buildings. Get to a safe place if your in line with these storms. Dangerous situration.
  20. Here's it is, September 7, 1998. Worst one in memory. Also named Derecho.
  21. A bow echo is a radar echo associated with a severe thunder storm, those that produce wind damage. ( straight line, downdraft) It appear bent outward like a bow, thus the name. Get a little carried away from my college years of study. We got a very light version last night. A severe version hit us,traveled through the state, and hit the New York State fair on Labor Day eve, some years ago Several vortexes spun off of that system heading southeast .
  22. Think the Red Barn in Batavia got closed down years ago, for serving horse meat as beef. Didn't say it couldn't be serve, just misrepresented. The price horses are now, cheap meat.
  23. Wonder why wasn't the info on the new bill released to new media? Where they threw early youth gun season into crossbow season usage. Still don't understand that reasoning.
  24. If bigpaul is what I think he is, profession wise, he's maybe more concern with thief, than trespass. In these days, sure don't blame u. As far as people walking my farm, I won't get in to much of a stink.
