The makers of Code Blue make Code Red. Has been around since 2009. Code blue has takened off in the market place, but Code Red doesn't seem to be very popular. I have never used it but, some friends say it's as good as Code Blue, what ever that means. BP has a 2 oz bottle for $6. What is it in Dicks?

Seems like NJ has delt with EHD before. All signs seem to be aiming in that direction. A killing frost checks the fly which transmits it. Michigans DNR has delt with this disease before as well. They have a simple to use web site, and it is lisited in the wildlife disease manual. Maybe someone could post the link, as it doesn't seem to work for me.

My son received another survey in the mail the other day. He filled one out and mailed it in, now he received another. I have never got one. Does anyone else receive them?

Buy the cloths you want to buy and can afford. Get something comfortable that feels good on you. Their is some great stuff on the market today.

Want to talk about getting itchy, we just took the better part of today trimming and tweeking stands. While up in one, a big tom walked across a field of view. It wasn't a deer, but sure was the next best thing. Nothing like sitting in the stands, checking shooting lanes, and getting a feel for whats to come.

I thought this 500 gun had a riffled barrel with holes in it. Not sure now. My sons 835 kicks bad with 3 " Mag shells. Dad only fired it once.That was enough of that.

Went to Dicks last night to look at tree stands, and ended up in the gun section. Figure that. Anyways, looked at a Mossberg 500, 12 Ga., with a nice wood stock, deer barrel, and scope mount reduced for $279. Think they took the scope out of the box, and reduced the price. It had vent holes in the top end of the thick barrel. Guy behind the counter said Mossberg put them in because of heat up issues, after firing a number of shells. Anyone know about this? They are noisey after some use, but so is my Remington 870 after 8 years on it. The shocker was when the clerk said we could take it home right away after an F.B.I. check cleared. Where did the 3 day waiting period go in this state? Would this be an ok gun for a small amount of deer hunting?

After spending 100's of dollars on other deer scents, picked up a bottle of deer dander 4 years ago. Experimented with it on and off that season. I can tell you that I see more deer with it on than with it off. Have used it ever since. It works. ( Quick Tip) I put cloth between used up, fresh earth waffers soaking them in deer dander and putting them in my hunting totes. The cloths absorbed the smell and you don't use as much spraying it on yourself. Bought 4 bottles last year for $42. Looking for more for this season.

Fantail; I'll plant about 3 acres usually, sometimes a little more or until my seed runs out. It usually last into February when the deer go off it. The main thing here is the squirrels and chipmunks love it to. I see cobs in the v's of trees from them. Plant enough to feed all the little critters. Trial and error is how we did it. We usually have farmers around us that plant hundreds of acres, so maybe that's why it last. One thing I might add, corn loves fert. Make sure you put plenty on, 300-400 lbs/ acre.

The corn seed I got from the Amish grew ten foot stalks to the top of the tassels. The ears averaged about 9 inches in length with a diameter like the corn, the old timers use to grow. Cobs were a good 2 1/2 inches in diameter, with big kernels. Kernel planting placement 6 inches apart in 28 inch rows. I also like to seperated the rounds from the flat kernels, so I can run the rounds through the planter. The flats, I broadcast on. Picked some for the chickens, and left quite a bit for the deer. The only thing we noticed, is the deer wouldn't come into it with a breeze or higher wind blowing the leaves, until dark.

The local feed mill tells me if the corn has been dried, it won't germinate. Are you buying corn in bags or obtaining it on the cob.? I bought a hybrid cob corn on a auction one year, but it didn't do much. I started with a non hybrid corn from the Amish quite a few years ago. It is 115 day growing season and have sucessfully saved the seed for replant every year. With the late planting and drought this year( which we are still in) it looks like I will loose the seed. I would like to get a shorter day corn for next year. Any advise?

I search the GM internet site and find an item. I make a phone call, they don't have it. When I go to the store, the shelf didn't even have a spot dedicated for it. Our closest store has been like this for years. Never cared for them much.

Car-deer collisions have a big impact in our area. I'm sure insurance companies also have a strong voice, that is heard in Albany.

Their are so many factors that play a key role in supporting deer numbers in any given area. From 1954-2002, deer numbers have growned, state wide. ( according to DEC estimates) The DEC would like to believe it's due to their efforts, and maybe part of this may be true. Something is working, at least in some of the state. It would be nice to obtain deer numbers each year, by each WMU unit, to see where it has worked and where it has not.

It seems that show producers have lost touch with reality. Their market for sales is limited. They think people that view their product, want to see this type of deer hype. Oh yes, they have to promote their sponsors. It's big bussiness, and that has fallen in the way of how it really is in the outdoors.

Companies aren't carrying excessive amounts of inventory. Their seems to be more" direct from the warehouse" these days. Making the manufacture stock more and slowing down shipping times. I would expect this to get worse in the future. The customer will have to wait longer at peak sales times.

A few select hunter's in our area, get together, for coyote hunts after Oct. 1st. They get quite a few each year. They seem to be good at what they do, because coyote numbers are held in check. Might be worth looking into.

Looking for some answers. I think the DMP program needs some fine tuning, in certain WMU units. I don't think it's working, in those units, like the D.E.C. would like it to work. I'm talking WMU's 9A,8A,9F, AND 8G. The harvest success rate falls below the state average 0f 18 %. Examples; 9A-9.1%; 8a- 14.5%; 9F-14.2%; 8g- 15.3% (2010 harvest report). Hunter harvest rates continue to run the same year after year, despite increases in DMP issued numbers.( I realize as DMP numbers increase, so do harvest numbers to keep the % the same.) Nothing is said to much about DMP's in this 5 year plan, their currently studying. Will the DMP sucess rate rise, if they pull the either sex tag for bow? Could someone also explain why DMP target numbers are always different than the total numbers handed out?

Nice to see some poults in the pics. Looks like a good hatching there. I have only seen 3 all summer long and that is unusual. The farm and surrounding land flooded three times in May and I think the turkeys had a tough time hatching. The ones I did see seem to be very small , but ma ma was good size.
