  1. Rumor has it this is a scam..
  2. A little meal prep for tomorrow. 3 racks of baby backs...
  3. I have this same dilemma. I've seen some nice bucks walking around on cam. Some of them are nice now but would be great in another year or two. In a perfect world I'd like to sit back and watch them grow. But then I wonder if they'd make it. There's a lot of pressure in my area and nothing is a sure thing. If given a good opportunity, I think the likelihood of me pulling the trigger is pretty high. Especially later in the season.. Either way good luck! And like Moog said, don't regret your decision.
  4. Just got back from a week in the mountains. Here's another pic of that one with the goofy rack. Part of me wants to let it go to see what develops next year. The other part of me says there's no way he's getting by me if he presents a shot..
  5. I just pulled cards this morning. I'm getting a lot of activity both at night and during the day. Less coyotes on cam than in the past. All horns are still covered in velvet. I've got a few respectable studs smiling for the camera. For that lop sided one, shooter? Or let him go and hope he comes back next year with a better pair?
  6. Just got back into cell range. 65 and overcast in waterport. No wind. Saw 3 groups doe with fawns and at least 1 pair of bucks. 14 deer total. Not bad for 2 hours.
  7. SJ what is that?? it looks like a jar full of pickled maggots??
  8. Winner Winner chicken dinner. Open to anyone. Donations accepted but not required. Tues and Thurs nights from 5 until dusk, weather permitting through the end of sept. https://www.discovervictory.com/2k-archery
  9. This may have come up in a previous thread, but I didn't see it. I picked up my tags yesterday. $87 covers hunting, bow, MZ (which includes the xbow), Doe tags and fishing. Here's my question. Bow and MZ were printed on the same tag. I paid $15 apiece. I need a little help on this one. Why did I pay for both? If I had only paid for bow for example, would the tag have printed differently? The way it is now i paid $30 for both privileges on 2 tags. I'm thinking I should've just saved $15 if they're both printed on the same tag. Am I making any sense here? Maybe the long week at work scrambled my brain...
  10. Here's the view from one of those platforms with targets at 12 and 28..
  11. Ha not exactly. There's a church over near my office in Henrietta. They have a public 3d archery course. it's pretty sweet and a whole lot nicer than i would've expected from a church. They have something like 12 elevated platforms and probably 25 targets set back in the woods.
  12. Dusted off the bow today. Shot for the first time this year. Shots are 15 yds, then 25 yds, then the 3rd is 25 from a 15 ft platform.
  13. I've read about their knack and breeding for squirrels. I'll check out the mag for tips and tricks.
  14. Thanks! having a pup in the house is handful. It cracks me up watching the wife chase around after he tinkles on the carpet. Apparently they only grow to about 30 pounds, so not a big breed. In my mind i picture him working a field for pheasant with me an my son right behind him... not sure if that'll actually play out but it's a nice thought.
  15. I picked up a Mountain Feist puppy a few weeks back. Primarily he's going to be a family dog. My son is 5 and we wanted him to grow up with a dog to play with. So far he's been great. Only with us for a few weeks and he already thinks he's king of the castle. I'm curious about the breed though. No one around here seems to have any experience with them. When I bring him to various pet stores, they've only maybe heard of the breed, but no one has seen them before. Same with the vet. I found some info online, but not much. they're recognized by NKC and UKC, but not by the AKC, not that I care much about that. The guy i bought him from said that he had to go to TN and KY to pick up the parents because the breed is better known down in the Appalachians. According to him, these dogs are full of spunk outside, and pretty laid back when inside. Does anyone have any experience with them? Apparently they're bred for squirrel hunting? Anyone try them on rabbits or maybe on birds? If this breed is a good as it sounds and seems to be so far, I'm surprised that they're not more common.
  16. It's great to see some nice deer on here! I put out a few cameras about a month ago and just pulled the cards yesterday. It turns out that 2 out of the 3 cameras were angled too high and didn't get much. These pix are the highlight reel from the 3rd camera.
  17. 10 weeks!? I was out this past weekend doing a little scouting and setting cameras, checking stands, etc. It was hard to see tracks with the dirt being so hard from this drought. I'll check the cams in a few weeks to see what's moving and may move the stands based on that. While I was walking I snuck up on a couple of fawns playing in the field. They walked to within about 30 yards of me. Cute little buggers. I'll probably start shooting next month when it cools off a little.
  18. Man what a year.. The short story is that I'll be eating Tag Soup for the season.. I was out with bow, crossbow, rifle, and muzzle loader at the end. 15ish total sits totaling about 75 hours in the woods. Only 7 deer seen all year with no good shot opportunities and no confirmed buck sightings. I have access to 2 properties, one in Hornell and another in Waterport. Hornell is hillside hunting with low pressure and is where I typically fill my tags, but this year I had no shots on 2 sits down there. Waterport is newer to me. It's mostly AG land with corn this year and the whole area has a lot of pressure. Lots of deer on camera, along with a few trespassers and the bucks they've wounded. I sat there the other 13ish times with no good shots. I've got 8 buddies who hunt various parts of the state, 9 if you include me. Only 1 deer was taken between us and we all agree that it was a strange year with limited sightings. It's seasons like this that remind you that you really need to be in it for more than just the hunt. If you don't enjoy being outdoors in the cold, this isn't the sport for you. With deer season behind me though I can start focusing on ducks, geese and bunnies! I would like to have been out a little more this year, but had a busy fall and family comes first. It'll just be another year or two until I can start letting my son tag along. He's super excited for it already! Congrats again to everyone who had successful seasons! There were some great deer taken and some fun stories to follow.
  19. Just got into stand. Bumped 3 big does close by on the way in. In thick stuff though so no shot. Second to last sit this year. Cold and windy in 8a. C'mon deer!
  20. Took a walk this morning. Beautiful weather and wanted one more chance with the rifle. Tons of tracks in fresh snow, but no deer. I'll be back for muzzleloader.
  21. Something has to give.. no deer this afternoon. Just those doe this morning. I caught up to another guy who I knew was on the property and he also didn't see anything. No tracks, no bumped deer, none bedded. This is really unusual for this property. I've got about 60 hours in this season and can count the deer I've seen on one hand with room to spare.
