I don't have a dedicated stuffer. I've looked into them but to your point, it would only get used once or twice a year. I use the sausage attachments that attach right to the front of the grinder I use. Based on a recommendation from here, I ended getting a pedal for it so I can control it hands free now. Do you have a grinder already?

Pretty close. In the past I'd usually grab it on sale for around $26/box. I think I paid $32/box the other day. The price per round went from roughly 1.30 to 1.60. I don't love the increase, but would rather pay the extra few dollars per box while it's available.

I was surprised to see Hornady American Whitetail in .308, 150gr in stock locally (WNY). Maybe we're starting to turn the corner on this shortage..

Well alright then. 3 legged dogs it is.

here's another lead if you're still looking: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/437391421221089/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_general&referral_story_type=general&tracking={"qid"%3A"-7065003289216299295"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"989688822921098002"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A989688822921098002%2C\"target_type\"%3A6%2C\"primary_position\"%3A49%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A8137073154410414080%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A501%2C\"value\"%3A0.00025118934921814%2C\"upsell_type\"%3A3516%2C\"grouping_info\"%3Anull}"%2C"lightning_feed_qid"%3A"-7065011466728507036"%2C"lightning_feed_ranking_signature"%3A"6043479500455411712"} Let me know when you're stocked and I'll stop sending updates. Until then, I'll pass along anything that seems like it's what you're looking for. -
Congrats on the Awesome new space! It looks to me like the price of taxi work just went up!

I'm not so sure those loges were blown off. It almost looks like the camera caught it at just the right moment and angle where the 'yotes were picking up a leg. I think I'd be more surprised if I saw a three legged dog that eats as well as that fatty in the second pic.

@First-light your cabin looks great. Mind if I ask what your all in cost was? Feel free to PM if you'd prefer. I really like the T&G interior and the simple but functional kitchen.
-
My thought here was that if I'm using a wood burning stove to warm the place (until they're outlawed), I wouldn't want the smell on my hunting clothes. Between that and wanting to keep snowy/muddy boots out of the living areas, an enclosed entryway just seems to make sense.
-
@First-light that's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. That structure, with grading and the driveway, for $15k. I didn't realize that Amish or Mennonites would build on site. I wonder what that would run me in 2022 dollars. While I love the idea of doing as much of the work as I can, if I can get the same or better end result in a realistic time frame within my budget, even better.
-
I was recently up in the Canton / Potsdam area. There are lots of Amish up there and it got me thinking. To your point though, size would be a consideration. If it were just me with the boys, I think that might be the way to go. With the wife though, I need a little more space than they can deliver.

Sorry to hear about the fire Dino. I saw this post and thought of you. Not sure if it's anything that you're interested in, but thought I'd pass it along. It's a post for "Old Syrup Equipment" located in Warsaw NY: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1091995654900705/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_general&referral_story_type=general&tracking={"qid"%3A"-7078066723879592495"%2C"mf_story_key"%3A"991393408205346607"%2C"commerce_rank_obj"%3A"{\"target_id\"%3A991393408205346607%2C\"target_type\"%3A6%2C\"primary_position\"%3A24%2C\"ranking_signature\"%3A2098852837113987072%2C\"commerce_channel\"%3A501%2C\"value\"%3A0.00057930880443743%2C\"upsell_type\"%3A3522%2C\"grouping_info\"%3Anull}"%2C"lightning_feed_qid"%3A"-7078093249675205735"%2C"lightning_feed_ranking_signature"%3A"5579746448372662272"} -
Good point @GreeneHunter. I should have mentioned that I do have a camper already that I could use on the property while I figure out and work on anything more permanent.
-
I mentioned a few months back that my mom passed. Being what it is, I stand to inherit a little bit of money as a result. I plan to buy a little chunk of land with part of it and setup a camp. I love the idea of having a little cabin that we can get away to and to use as a hunting camp for the family as my boys grow. I don't have any construction experience and figured I'd look for some input from folks on the forum who might be able to weigh in. I have an idea in mind of what i want the final product to be, just not sure on the best way to get there. I plan to do as much of the work on my own as I can. I enjoy working with my hands, and find it rewarding when I can look at a project after the fact and say "I built that." I'll probably hire out the site prep, but would plan to do most of the construction on my own with help from friends or family. I'm ok with this project taking a few years where I can add and build as time and money allow. This would likely be totally off grid. I like the idea of a small self contained solar setup to power lights and an alarm clock (so I don't oversleep during the rut!), maybe a pump for a shower. Bathroom would be managed by either a port-a-potty or a composting toilet. A wood burning stove would be the heat source. The end result would have a large room for the kitchen area, dining area, and a sitting area. Also I'm thinking 2 rooms for the beds, one for bunks and the other for me and the misses. A small room to house the toilet area would be needed. For the entry way, I'm thinking a roughly 6x6 room to keep the boots, hunting clothes out of the main living space. Also a porch would be nice. If it were just me and the boys, I wouldn't need so much space. But in order for the wife to sign off on the project, concessions had to be made. As far as the size and floorplan, I'm not sold on any particular layout. I've seen one floor setups that are anywhere from 24x24 to 16x30 and two story setups where the footprint is roughly 12x20. I'm open to whatever makes the most sense from a construction perspective. I like the idea of keep it modular (studs 16" OC, spans in 4' increments, etc.) to make planning and construction easy. I've looked into all wood construction, converting shipping containers, and more recently metal buildings. I think it's safe to say I've ruled out the shipping container idea. From what I've read, you'll end up spending more on it than if you had just started with a different format from the beginning. Wooden build seems like the tried and true way to go. More recently I've thought about a steel structure. I'm drawn to the weatherproof exterior and the fact that they come in kits with everything pre-cut, pre-measured, etc for a reasonable price. Once the shell is assembled, I could frame it out with standard studs, insulate it, add windows, etc. I'd love to hear if anyone on here has any experience they can share with building a similar camp, or converting a steel building. Suggestions on things I should avoid or things that I should be careful not to overlook. Any input is appreciated! I'm way early in the planning of all this. I'd like to have a property in the next 12-18 months, and to get a site prepped soon after so that I can really start digging into this.

ooooh. yup, that would make sense!

First - congrats on an awesome late season buck! Next - I must be confused. I thought PB stood for Piebald, but apparently I was wrong. What's the PB?

Well that's a wrap. Went out looking for one more for the freezer. Found a spot to sit facing into the wind. Just in front of me is a creek, then a few acres of thick stuff where they hide until dusk. They came out right on time, but at a distance that I didn't feel confident shooting. In the lower lighting, it could have been 150 -250 yds. I've only practiced it to about 100 and didn't want to risk a marginal shot, so they'll be safe until next year. -
Anyone know anything about baseball cards??
Bolt action replied to Otto's topic in General Chit Chat
Value is tough.. As with anything, it's only worth what someone will pay you for it. PSA offers a service where they will grade the card for you and certify it. Collector's may look for that because PSA is known (among others) in the industry. https://www.psacard.com/appraisals MY BIL dabbles in this a bit. Card collecting definitely isn't what it used to be. I have a case full of cards that were going to be my "retirement". Now I'll be happy if can sell them for enough to cover a tank of gas. -

Saw 10 deer this morning on the way to work, 9 doe and a small buck. All on their feet eating during daylight hours. I've got a feeling someone's going to connect today! -
Good for you. It's rough to change eating habits. My challenge has always been eating healthy portions. When I'm in a good routine, which seems to be about half the year and it's easier when in in the office, I try to eat 4 or 5 small balanced meals each day. Cold cut meat with a fruit, granola bar with yogurt, etc... Along with that, sweets are my kryptonite. Brownies, cookies? Yes please...

Piggy backing off @mowin.. I've got a 3rd grader at home. He is instructed to use hand sanitizer in school all the time. As a result, his hands have patches where the skin is dry and rough and red and he complains that it burns (from being dried out), so we have to use lotion on his hands all the time to restore the moisture that's stripped away from the over use of the sanitizer.

I haven't checked in in a while, mostly because there's nothing to report. I've been out a few time with the smokepole over the past few weeks but haven't seen anything. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a deer while hunting since shooting that lame young buck the day after thanksgiving. Weather, work, and family time has kept me away from the woods recently, so I'm definitely not putting in as much time as I was back in bow season. I was driving in to the office this morning and saw at least 6 deer, no less than 5 of which were bucks, about .5 miles from my office. I drive through Durand Eastman park to get here and the place is loaded with deer. One of the bucks I saw was a nice mature 8 point walking though a clearing not 20 feet off the road around 8am. His horns were heavy and about as wide as my shoulders. I hope to get out again on Friday for one last chance at a doe before the season ends. -
Merry Christmas folks!

We just picked up a 2016 Chrysler town and country. Fully loaded. Kids love the DVD player. Wife loves the roominess and the power sliding doors. Seems solid so far but we haven't had it long enough to offer a full review on it. I will say that I'm not a fan of the UConnect interface on the media display. It doesn't seem at all user friendly to me, although the wife doesn't mind it. We had it shipped in from OH. It's a 2016 with 65k on it that we got for 16k.

I picked up a used F150 in the spring and had a Pendaliner drop in bedliner thrown in. I think I paid about $250 for it installed and it's served it's purpose so far. At that price, even if it were to crack or break I wouldn't be too upset about replacing it. With that said though, it's held up great so far. It still looks new despite the lumber, cinder blocks, bloody deer, and other misc stuff I've had back there.
