Although rare I can happen a hunter unsuccessful for years or a new hunter that thinks they see some movement, anticipation overwhelms them and a non clear shot is fired, it's the same thing that makes a hunter think antlers are bigger than what they are or that a lone fawn is a big deer, lack of experiance. A little common sense and orange while walking is not a bad thing especially knowing people tresspass, other hunters in area, ect. while in a stand taking it off would kind of make sense, but why bother it let's hunters know your there and you don't get walked up on by hunters who don't see you in a tree.

We don't have a game comission and 3 ncos per county, they don't even have 1/4 of the staff if the rounded up the state and moved deer, let alone a budget

I do see it in ohio for doe days and regular season, yes pressure is increased but the season it shorted resulting in high harvest that dec wants and a new batch of un pressured deer that the hunters want, hunting the rut targets bucks only as they are dumb if you will.
-
I usually see improvement in hunting during and right after logging , the chainsaw shut off and 5 min later deer are moving to feed on the tops...
-
Seems they close gun during the rut or postpone to after to limit buck take.. like was observed last year in wny with the snowstorm... thus the reason for more and older buck being seen and taken this year..
-
Look at this from Iowa, no gun till December , split seasons.. and missourihttp://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/deer-seasons-hours

I have seen ask signs, and most land owners I have asked have given some kind of permission, to retrieve, certain species, snowmobiling, ect. Most people are decent but want to know who and where someone is on the property.

I honestly believe shorting bow and gun with a week or two weeks between them would allow a better herd, Iowa has an earl and late bow and a early and late gun, the dec needs deer taken so multiple opening days is the best way to accomplish this,as deer will be rested and not spooked by all the hunters. Notice I haven't mentioned antler size or 1 buck rule. Just a way to increase harvest and a way to have the guy that missed opener cause it's his busy season to experiance an opener a few weeks later , or over again, someone said after opening weekend it's a ghost town on stateland, and by the parcels by me I would tend to agree, I believe you should shoot what you want and be happy, I don't worry about big horns as they can be gotten anywhere and volunteering passing younger deer is catching on. Everyone can agree that non pressured deer are easier to hunt.

They 2 week snow storm kept thousand of hunters at home, deer were not stressed as it melted down quickly, and there were no hunters pushing them.around, the break actually was benificial to them, and after wards the season so close to christmas more hunters stayed home so it was essentially a 2 week gun season.. I've simply stated what has been observed by posts to social media. Many large bucks being taken "120 in plus" if you don't see the inprovement in your area of wny (even those areas with out the heavy snow ( hunters were snowed in at home so they couldn't get to southern tier to hunt these areas either.

If it's extremely acidity from spruce ,plant some chestnuts they love acid!!! No soil test or fert needed, though you will need to fence them from deer rubbing and eating them , 5 years they will produce nuts, for the rest of the ground the dozer will leave it ready for a bed of buckwheat. Year after a pasture mix will do nicely, not much cash needed ir time..

A lot of.states are.closed during the rut... almost all species are closed during the breeding season. Seems deer can only.be shot by dumb hunters when they are horny...
-
If you are a hunter youbwould.taken off whenever opening day is, fact.is reduced pressure seems to have really.helped the herd, at least the 2 weeks in gun run a 5 day gun season and a week or two off then another 5 or 10 day, , seems most guys hunt opening g weekend and thanksgiving weekend and then the state land is vacant, as for bow I would close it for 2 weeks before gun.
-
I would.shorten bow and gun, personally, and yes I think most of the take is opening week of gun if I remember correctly, the short season does seem to let many deer survive another year, most big buck states have short or split seasons from what I've read

Quite impressed with my rifled slugs in Mossberg 500
G-Man replied to Core's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I've never had a problem with recoil target shooting and I use my 45/70 as a plinking gun. The worse recoil I can say i have experienced is a 3.5 in mag turkey load out of a mossberg 835. 56 ft lbs ot is the highest tested against big bore rifles like the nitro 50. Or 375 h&h mag. Which only produce ft energy in the high 30's -
Been seeing a lot of great bucks posted out of wny this year, starting to think that the "close" of the gun season last year for almost 2 weeks was a good thing. The winter storm that kept hunters home really allowed deer to make it through last year and although many thought they would die ,they are a hardy animal that survived till the snow melted in a week or so. Perhaps a shorter season is what is need vs a one buck or ar restrictions.. Thoughts??

Crazy hunting tactic that has worked (or almost worked)?
G-Man replied to sampotter's topic in Deer Hunting
I've used a wrist rocket to launch rocks down side of a hill to make noise while doing a drive when we lack enough people to push properly -
I'd pull the plug, there are other manufacturers that can produce what you want for a lot less of an aggravating time. I'm sure they will welcome your business.

Well you just answered an important one what are they cutting thru to and from.. obviously your missing what's on either end of their travel route.. that's what you need to put in.. something that will keep them there as a destination. .instead of just passing through. ..

Not enough info, do you have enough bedding already, is food lacking in your area? What is surrounding it? Are you looking just for deer or other wildlife ? Doing some thing is better than nothing, you just need to figure out what your property needs and it's not always what you want.. As for attracting deer right now they are in the thickets getting it on protecting their doe... do you have thickets? Early bow , food is number 1, but you can have the best food plot but if it's not conducive to allow them to feed I daylight it's a waste of time and money for a hunting plot, it may work as a destination feed field and be used all night but that's doesn't help you get one although it will help the herd .. .

Full mount will be 2500 plus for that size bear, I used 5 guys and a tractor to get mine out . Definitely use gloves to gut as they are full of worms, a deer processor can cut a bear, if lots of roundworms,I would be hesitant about the meat as it must be cooked fully to kill the eggs in the meat. Bear is good but I go by how many worms I see before I decide to get cut up.

Just walked by at 140 yards...it's over 400 I guarantee it
