  1. 8 buck and 2 doe from camp so far, it's a little down from normal, but on pace for our average of 18 a year.. less shots around but that happens when you buy out the surrounding camps..
  2. The buck in my avatar was black from hock to hoof, was worse tasting deer I ever had, no fat gamey and tough... gave 90% of it away rest was like chewing on rubber bbs . Dog ate well that year. Deer was 8.5 years old. Only deer I ever gagged on gutting and it wasn't gut shot, just stunk, you could smell it 50 yards away.

    Black cloud

Heavy trails are summer trails the fainter ones off in the thick stuff are fall rut stands, just move your stand to the thicker stuff, a wise man told me it's better to see a deer that you might get ,than to see a bunch you cant.
  4. If its.in a huntable area and legal setbacks are observed hunt it. I know of several.places in the suburbs of buffalo that are town owned and hunted many are posted with the neighbors signs .. Lol
  5. Depends if I can lead them, stopping a deer puts it in alert... at 18 to 22 yards they will duck your arrow ... can drop a body size in 1 /10 of a second
  6. Food plots are important but cover is more important, do yourself a favor and do a whole property evaluation before you start and find out what you really need to hold deer in daylight on your property
  7. Metatarsis of a perdator (The colored toenail ((claw)) is gone)
  8. Look for scorer from nys bbc, they have a list call one and set up appointment

    Ear corn

A mile is not far for a deer to go for corn about a 15 minute walk... squirrels will drag corn a long ways, so do nuthatches, had one tucking kernels in a cherry trees bark almost 1/2 mile from standing corn field, whole one side of tree was yellow dotted where ever it could wedge a piece of corn under bark edge.
  10. Why are you sitting? Move!
  11. Doe has to be older than 1.5 , aging teeth by looking is inexact and tooth ring analysis is only true way. But average dressed weight for a 1.5 buck is 112-115 here and a doe is 90 to 97. That's 23 years of recording them in a log off a good scale, a doe that weighs that much here is 2.5 or older.
  12. I never call in gun, bow if I need to pull a buck in range that I see, that's it. Hunt funnels, trails to bedding/cover. They come thru naturally (or escaping other hunters) and with gun if I see them I usually have shot. But I hunt fairly thick stuff in gun 70 yards visable max usually closer to 40.
  13. 3.5, god I hate ir photos... they make everything look bigger...

    Fouling

Attach a smal plastic hose to the nipple and place end in hot boiling soapy water, scrub up and down with patch on ram.rod water will.be drawn up the barrel, it should be hot enough that you need to hold the barrel with an oven mitt. Dry and coat with a lite gun oil, will stay clean and eliminate your problem. Snap a few caps to get rid of oil and reload for season...
  15. Just think if ar's were in place requireing 4 on a side that 6pt might not of been a legal deer... I'd be happy shooting 6pt like that the rest of my.life
  16. 2nd sounds like a leg hit, you won't find it , it can heal and can go for miles, always put a second shot into a deer you can see. Your better off losing 5 lbs of meat from second hole than a deer.
  17. Not much if you skin it correctly, cut from under the hide, not thru the hair to the hide
  18. I miss having the weekend before that monday to shop visit other camps, spend some money in town, and have a good time. Now it's rush to camp unpack and bed...
  19. I've had good luck as well but this year they were down to stems by Oct 1, a lot depends on your deer pop and available other food sources
  20. Ar's for everyone cause we can't grow big bucks without them!! Congrats to all the hard working and or just lucky hunters out there! !
  21. Inch high at 50, most of my shots are well under that. Doesn't matter what gun I'm using
  22. The only problem you may have with a half acre plot is the deer may eat it to bare gr round before the season

    It's over

I have taken several deer with blk powder pistols, lots of fun but even that gets old... waiting for spear to be legal...
  24. Where was bear shot? You can lose a lot of meat depending on where you hit it, and I assume boneless meat trimmed properly is a lot of waste in weight there, I would say you got a fair amount back depending on what you got ground roasts steaks,...for example an average deer only gives back 30 to 35 lbs of trimmed boneless cuts if you didn't hit spine or front shoulders... cut in half would.be 15lbs. So it sounds about right

    It's over

I still see deer every day in gun, habitat is the key. Bow is fun, gun is social time for me, muzzleloader is the best as its quiet cold and time for reflection.
