  4. I've used apple scented shampoo for years, I don't care what you do to eliminate scent your pody puts out pheromones and heat all the time most thru your head so why not.smell like hot juicy green apples! A couple.of guys at camp.saw.my bottle 1 x and now they do the same...
  5. G-Man

    Why?

So sitting in one if my favorite stands and at 6pm I see a doe walking on the edge of a ridge/brushline. Not a minute behind he I see one of my top 5 buck I have on camera just following head up not sniffing the ground, so i try various calls and of course he's not leaving the doe, the just walk down the ridge away from me and dissappear from sight and hearing. About 615 I see a doe walking the field edge toward me just walking and she comes to within 50 yards and cuts in the woods ,right behind her is the buck just walking along he get to 50 yards and turns broadside,I am debating the shot as I practice it I know exactly how far he is and he's not allarmed. As I am doing this the doe pops out in a lane 23 yards below me and continues to walk by the stand on the way to an apple orchard. Figuring the buck will.follow her same has he has for last 15 minutes I'll have am easy shot at 23 yards .. nope he turns 180 and walks into a set of 15 year old pines and dissapears... the doe continues to orchard and it's sun set so I get down take the long way around back to the house as not to disturb her or the buck.. Why couldn't he just follow the doe ,all I can think is he got sick of her teasing and went looking for an easier woman....lol
  6. Nice bucks following doe now not.chasing just following..it's getting closer
  7. Well I had a friend sitting in one of my stands last week, the logger drove by his stand with the skidded 2x driving him insane and he rattled off a text to me complain about it, I told him to stay put the deer didn't care. He moves and not 20 minutes later a nice buck walks thru, all on trail cam, can see skidded go down and back 2x and 20 min later a buck walks out eating, but he was gone to another stand...sent him.the pics he's was oh...guess I should of stayed... We are bothered by more stuff than the deer are , another hunter walking over to see of you saw anything , at. Buzzing thru, hose back riders, cars on a quite dirt road your hunting by, the neighbor cutting trees, fact is deer know when they are being hunted and when they arent..
  8. Deer are suppose to be donated or used..
  9. Yes an apple would be feed or cause them to feed , it's pretty simple, if they can eat it feeding or baiting it's illegal, if it's scent with nothing to eat it's legal
  10. I have allowed recovery several times, but I have a lot more respect for the person that asks before the season, after 25 years all my neighbors are known and all get along. Like grow said it's not hard to contact them before it happens is better and a courdesy call before doesn't hurt, my neighbor all ways allowed retrieval but 1 time he didn't ,his cousins just entered the woods and he didn't want us going thru woods because we didn't know where they were and they didn't know we were walking/ tracking thru, no radio communication,or cell. He asked where it entered and he said if he found it he'd let us know. The deer Continued across his property and he and we felt it was just a broken leg. They may not be denying you because they are asshole but for a safety concern
  11. You need permission. Wether a blood trial is good going on to it or not, never say how big a buck is if you ask , just a simple I hit a doe or I hit a buck and it crossed the line and I'd like to recover it if you want I can show you where it crossed. To many stories about big bucks hit crossing lines and the owner felt it was his deer You shot so denies permission gets it himself and tags it . So no size and no description of where it crossed... imo
  12. Apple cider in a spray bottle is very effective at attracting, baiting according to dec is putting something out to make a deer feed . putting it on the ground I would say is baiting cause they could eat the grass or leaves it's on. But spraying in the air leaves nothing to feed on just the scent to bring them to an area.
  13. Depends on bone in or boneless, how well trimmed the meat is,how much fat or pork or beef is added to ground. For me on average an adult 1 .5 year old deer boneless meat is about 60 lbs. Dressed weight of around 125 lbs give or take few lbs. Don't care about live weight personally and we weigh or deer so
  14. Been seeing a lot of grey fox, and fisher(wish they had season here for them...)
  15. My personal opinion I want to shoot everything I hunt under 100 yards , maybe 200 for a stretch, I'll take my 45-70 every time, any longer range than that your target shooting not hunting....
  16. My neighbor who was in his 60s at the time shot a nice buck, it went down and he went over to slit it throat and bleed it out (why idk it's his thing) problem was he hit the deer low and broke both its front legs as he raised its head to cut its throat it got up, using his legs as a crutches it plowed 50 yards thru the woods as he slashed it's throat an held on for dear life. I was coming up the road and saw my neighbor kind of stumbling soaked in blood walking dow. The hill assuming the worse I drove up the field to him where he told me that story, he hopped in back and I took him to his house to get cleaned up, almost giving his wife a heart attack when she saw him, we went up to retrieve his deer the pushed up leaves and blood everywhere was amazing! Was and still is craziestthink I ever heard and saw results from, by the way he still bleeds his deer out and he just turned 80 this year! Crazy old man ..... Lol
  17. Well , 22 short in the ear is very effective. Stay away from longs unless cb longd, too much powrt can go thru znd ricochet, This will sound bad but highly effective, but we use to club them and stand on ribcage, no fur damage that way,
  18. A hole under a fence at a zoo, seems like a safe zoo , if you can crawl in what can crawl out......
  19. Same thing happens around salamanca, young punks trying to prove something
  20. Hear is an 8.5 year old by tooth ring, weighed 205 with head cape and front feet off at knee For mounting.
  21. Nice buck hope you get him
  22. Use a bigger hang on, I have several that are 32 x 36, bigger than most ladder and climbers platforms
  23. Well you said it.and so did I they practice a d work out, 90% of hunters pick up their bow a month (if they are lucky) or less before the season, pull.back using weight and muscles that have sat idol for a year or more and then when season comes they don't practice anymore.. but hunt every day. That is the recipe for a torn / blown shoulder. That is why I said unless you practice year round, (exercise Is a form of practice.)
