I will give it a try again, got my 1st turkey last fall with bow, bought a gobbler guillotine broadhead.made it much more effective than broadhead and stopper I was using.
-
Or you can mix black paint with dish soap and paint it, hot water to remove (like they use on cars that are for sale.
-
Nail polish remover will take off sharpie from anything, just put some on a q-tip. Turkey have great vision.they will see that shine before you think they are close enough to see it. 1 To 2 miles away. Really even when your walking! That's why a lot of turkey guns are inodized.

Question for fellow NY hunters and sportsman
G-Man replied to Adkhunter1590's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
The dependable used tractors are out there, but I've never found on at auction. I picked up an oliver 1800 for 3000. And a kabota 7200 for 3500. Just cause their old doesn't mean they aren't dependable. Most of my equpment are field finds, old equipment abandoned in hedge rows or used as planters. -
Cut a hole in dam right in front of camera, they will show up in a few has to repair it amazing how they know there is a hole..

I found one once, called the cops. Would do the same again.

Maybe some black Sharpe (magic marker ) on that bolt, super shiny in pic can't imagine the sun hitting that in the woods.....

Question for fellow NY hunters and sportsman

Split g2, I can't believe you pay that much, seed can be picked up thru many organizations for 10-20 a 60 lb for rr seed. Must be using small equipment, should be a 5-7 bottom plow. 12- 20 ft disc About.3 Hr labor to plow and disc and 3- 4 more for drag and plant. 100An hr 800 to 1000 for labor.fert d 200-300 .fert and lime vary to amount needed.. for 4000 a year x 5 years thats 20g? You could of bought it all and do a lot more yourself... hunt in am till noon and plow plant afternoons...its what i do. I agree with grow thats A lot of equipment. Bigger equipment is cheaper than smaller stuff (because everyone wants to do food plots) -
Same can be said for traditional bow vs compound vs crossbow, they are all tools some hold preference holding one over the other. That's the beauty you can pick and choose what you like same for gun, an old side by side, over under, pump, semi auto. Single shot, black powder, double barrel black powder . Let alone what guage you want to use.
-
Each his own, I use both, firdt bird goes to eat, then the fun starts, black powder shotgun, can't get more traditional than that. The point is if you have a modern gun made for extremely tight patterns a scope or red dot is the finishing part to it, if you want to take your old model. 12 Or ithica 37 A bead fits the gun...

Question for fellow NY hunters and sportsman
G-Man replied to Adkhunter1590's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I do several food plots for neighbors, its not a get rich process. I do theirs after I get mine done. Prolly 12-20 more on top of mine.If I make enough to cover the cost of mineI'm happy. Gas, is expensive and fertalizer is expensive, let alone seed. -
Looks like the vikes got 3 starters so far, their remaining picks are for practice squad. I'll give them an a- grade so far. Bills, well lots of needs traded down for more pics, not much talent in this draft so big risk IMO. B at best.
-
iI have several bottles , i'llI'll have to take some pics. But most expensive things iI have found is a 1800 ceramic stein from England, i also have old corn botlles and a lot of milk glass vases and bowls.

4 for 1 trade, maybe somebody on the bills is thinking..

Turkey hunting is 10% calling, 80% woodsmanship , and 10% luck. If you learn where birds roost they will tend to do so every year (spring roosts are different than fall roosts) then knowing where rravines are lay of the land, fences strutting areas are you can move to intercept them. Its not hard its just not what you see onTV..90% of birds I've taken have been in woods and small forest openings. Heck if called more birds by scratching leaves than yelping. Rule of thumb if you hear a hen clucking cluck, if its yelping yelp. Start soft and gradually get louder. Some bird wontwon't gobble but come in quiet. All you hear is walking in leaves.

I owl hoot from sunset to 1/2 hr after dark i also use a elk bugle, crow,Silent dog whistle, coyote howler, wwoodpecker call , and a peacock call. Some times moving 50 to 100 hundred yards up or down a ridge will get a bird right in front of you to gobble. I usually walk a ridge stopping every 50 to 100 yards calling and then come back the same way when just barely light calling again. I've walked by many birds and have them gobble 100- 200 yards behind me from where i called a few minutes before.

A bead. at 20 yards covers a whole turkey neck, , when patterns are tight (2 in or less) and target is smaller than your sight its east to miss (reason pins have become finer and finer on bows sights as well.) Yes beads work well when pattern is open to. 1 Ft or more at 20 Yards and your max range is 40. I use then on my muzzloader shotguns. But when shooting 50 or 65yards a bead will obscure the bird. Heck gun fighter pistols never even had sights, shoot enough and you can just points andsshoot. I do not use decoys or blinds or mouth calls. And have never missed with my red dot. But its easy to get in strange position and not get your head down on the stock when using open sights or a bead and missing.(the most common reason to miss using them is dropping the gun or looking over the sights to "see the Hit". Red dots with no magnification eliminate that.
-
my pattern at 20 yard is about 3 inches. easy to miss if your using a bead, pattern is 30 in circle at 50 yards. i try to take my fist bird at 40 yards. i then go to an old black powder shotgun that max range is 20 yards. i like to get em close but need one in the freezer first as they are so tasty..

So who else is hitting the woods early on May 1st?
G-Man replied to Deerthug's topic in Turkey Hunting
I'll be roosting the night before, have. Hunters to take out for first two days. Hope we do as well as last year opening day -
Will be watching it. Bills will squander their picks , has never picked well since bill polian was here and wilsons daughter passd away.

You don't need to center a red dot, where the dot is is where the bullet goes there is no parallax as with a scope. The one I have has a battery life of 100 hr. Turn it on when bird responds and has a fine red dot with adjustable intensity. Usually power level 3 or.4 (of 10) Is more than enough for most time of day. My gun shoots way to tight of a pattern to us a bead.

looks like it bears mark trees ...
