Phade, Ohio, pa and most otherstate the game is managed by biologists , sorry to say here its not. How about a 6 day gun season...will never happen here, or legnthining the season because not enough does were harvested. ny does not have mandatory checkstations(dec personal would want them but they are controlled by politicians who say no more jobs) you can't manage something when your hands are tied... better managed yes due to fact most are under seperate game commissions. better deer no... lots of big bucks are taken in ny every year and never measured or seen except by a few locals that know the guy that shot it. i know my neighbor is one of them, look at his racks and most people would think he got them out west somewhere, he shoots the biggest he can for meat, if it has 21 points so be it, rack get cut off and thrown in a bushel basket, 140 in plus deer in a basket... never to be seen but by a few.

I travel back and forth to ohio, several big differences,,1. All land is posted you need written permission to be on it regardless if signs are up or not, (and is enforced heavily by a game commission that is separate from the political whims of the politicians of the state, very unlike ny.) Creating lots of sanctuary areas for the deer population. 2. Gun season is very short. 3. 1 buck limit. 4 many large farms that consist of 100's of acres of open farm fields and small woodlots where deer concentrated after crops are cut. Nowhere near the pressure most lands in ny see. Farm sizes are larger in general. Ny 50 acres your a land barron, 200 or more is common in ohio. Let get the dec seperate from the politics of the the state and let them control the game in nys.
-
Thats exactly why, you can't compare ny to midwestern states. Here you my have 1 hunter on 20 acres there 1 on 400. No wonder they can pass the little ones, and wait for a big one one. Pressure here forces many bucks nocturnal, there 0 pressure means more daylight movement.. i trophy buck here is something to truly be proud of!

need some help with riflescope selectiom
G-Man replied to apoallo's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I like the leopold myself, has tremendous light gathering for the size of the objective. Have other guns and scopes but always seem to grab one with a leopold on it... there are other very good manufactures out there but plan on paying at least the same amount for the optic you choose as you did for the rifle if not more.... -
Joining a co-op?? What are leases going for?
G-Man replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in General Chit Chat
If they drill or put pipline on your property. yes your landscape will change. i even have in my lease what the roadways and piplines are to be planted with. you can still be in a co op and tailor the lease to fit your own needs. and face it nys is not a quick mover in anything (except anti gun laws), i've had my lease 3 years so far still no drilling andi don't see it happening here soon either, places with existing piplines, infrastructure will be first to drill with it expanding from there,if and when ny even gives the go ahead... Heck i'm still waiting for a new peace bridge buffalo to canada..only been 15 years +... -
Joining a co-op?? What are leases going for?
G-Man replied to Uncle Nicky's topic in General Chit Chat
You better off joining than not.. nys says you will be compansated for gas under your property but it is at a such a small amount that you will be robbed blind. smaller land owners do'nt sign up because they need a unit of 300 acres per well so if they have 260 and need yours they drill and pay u at nys compensation rate, if you get on a lease, you can get up to 20% royalties if they drill, i believe "i'd have to look it up in my reference material nys is 1%or less.." You can have the gas underyou taken and have no say in the matter but are paid by law under nys. if a pin was the well the are paid out is a circle consisting off 300 acres. if your land in partially in it you get paid. As for right to look for gas, allegany wellsville area is higher than my area in cattaragus we are at approximatly 25$ an acre. its if they drill that you want to be in a lease agreement for higher returns. I suggest going to several different co op meetins. saleable timber and firewood timper to be removed for piplines or for well should be addressed in your lease as well as maintance roads. Hope this helps you a little.it was very stressfrul for myself as well but i did end up in a co op. -
yes, you should know the policy before you call a recruiter that is the knowledge they refer too, not ask an ethical question about things that you should know yourself before calling, its not like they are out asking people to join you call them. does she know our foreign policy, ..did she ask them do they know our foreign policy? no she asked an ethical question that may have hundreds of variant answers if they were allowed to answer them (as spokesmen for theservices you aren't allowed to give person answers to question that are not the policy of the us. but their own opiniion.) Look at it this way ..Do you feel its right to shoot a deer if you know its not mature??? or look at any ar thread here... i'm not impressed with her question or phone call.

wtb 50 cal flintlock pistol
G-Man replied to pennsyltucky's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
you can buy brand new from cabellas, or red head. or buy a kit and customize it as you see fit.... not expensive and black powder is tough, if buy used and not properly cared for your out more than you spent to fix it. jmo. -
What a strange question you call a recruiter when you want to join and want to know what positions or training you can get in each branch, if you want to know foreign policy be a citizen not a sheep, research and learn. before you join and read the fine print. I f your a sheep and join with out knowing the concequences its not their fault you called them...

Really rather disappointed with vendors @ NY Expo
G-Man replied to phade's topic in General Chit Chat
Too bad, i have some sympathy for the little guy though, look at all the resturant bars that depend on a sports team, especially buffalo with the sabres, they took a huge hit when season was on hold. Many buisnesses are built to feed off others, a big vendor draws in other small ones looking for the few that will walk in or they carry a custom version, they don't have the option or means for huge mass marketing but can survive by using the traffic created by others. as for the bigger picture i'm sure he just wants to feed his family same as the rest of us, maybe he lobbies in person forthe laws he dislikes, or has written letters to his reps... tough when your buisness feeds your family and isn't a hobby i'm sure. -
Fact is a lot of what people hunt was not native to this state or country, pheasants for example..we spend a ton raising them to be let go so a small group can go hunt them. Pigs are escaping and will become a menace, but at least they can make it on their own.And pigs are raised to be hunted same as deer, nothing mutant about it, same as turkey chicken and fish. select the best with traits you want and breed them, heck they even do it with sweet corn... when i was a kid all there was yellow..now white ,mixed, ect legnth of growing season needed ect.. if you don't like selective breeding fine..but i'm not sure what you eat or try to grow for yourself then...
-
there are pigs in java, and south central ny, according to dec.
-
Ill probably have kevin schilling do it i grew up down the street from him. he did my gun buck in 2000, or pete labushesky did a buck for me awhile ago as well. just need to get back in town and make apptment.
-
it should make it no problem, i came up with very conserveative 19 1/8. book is suppose to be 18. i have 2 bucks i have had scored and scored them myself and have been very close to actuall official scores. i just never paid to enter them not sure if i'll enter this as well, only compition i have is between me and the animals i hunt, but nice to know what they officially score none the less.
-
big yote, now get the other 3....
-
Drying time done.. now to get skull measured officially and entered...

yes spreding bulk lime is a lot different than bagged lime, need different equipment, its of of you or friend has it but expensive to go out and buy. most let the distributor spread it on large fields.. small food plots are a lot tougher to get trucks into.
-
Maybe you could spray more than a strip, you can do more than just what you can till by hand. turkeys likecut field they can see in.. once they get tall they are good for nesting but not so much for feeding.
-
Clover mix is already a good attractant, for fall look at oats or wheat plant so it matures end of sept oct. Spring can't beat a cut cornfield or winter wheat field about 4 in tall

I shot a buck wheni was first starting bow hunting, shot it facing me off ground. but entire 2013 27in arrow in the deer betwwen neck and shoulder. got the same deer a year later with the arrow in in along the spine covered in a kind of sack rack was all messed up ... Buddy shot a 10 point high during bow this year and got it on camera again 5 days later showing the slice across top of back. it happens more than you think.. and as for no man's land right where you hit is it.. spine drops low(although most people insist its above the lungs below the spine). ananatomy. learn it?!

Actually most countrys eat what we would consider putrified meat, its very tender, just add a bunch of spices...

3.5 shoulders just not filled out enough for older i think it it was by me, but may be result of lack of food this year. every area is different.
