Have a friend that has 5 sheds from there all reddy and a big 9 pt he hit with the train that should score 140's. Yes its a shame what goes on there. but i've seen a lot of buffalo enforcement back there leaving with game as well...very sad. -

Yes that would be the same buck at tift, the rail yard is off ohio st. Lots of big deer there most are poached or hit by a train. And this odd colored one -
Very nice!

Go out and hit thw area on foot in early spring looking for trails old rublines, natural funnels, cover breaks, and food scorces. I scout year round, if your looking for strictly camera time. Right before sept will give you a good idea of individual bucks in your area, but i am a firm believer that any disturbance is to much. Keep your cameras on field edges and feeding areas that are easily accessible and away from your stand area. as for hanging stands i try to do it in summer right before a rain do all my trimming at least 2 months before season

Havent heard of any banding recently, i had birds banded at my place several years ago, and mannaged to get a tagged bird as well

Who in there right mind will go to someones house as an official of the government and collect all the guns? It would be a suicide mission for any officer to do so... the police force? Military? Does the gov. really think that most of their collectors do no believe in 2nd amendment rights over the will of a deluded president that can't/won't respect his position as the commander in chief? Wouldn't this just be feel good legislation unenforceable? Making almost all gun owners criminal on paper? I would hate to be assigned to take some citizens guns away..... i'd prolly quit and become a criminal myself!

The light colored buck deer is just south of buffalo in tift farms. A "non-hunting" area. Will be nice to see how he grows if its not poached comes to the rail yard daily... must like cheerios...... Thats the first deer i've seen on top a box car, in them, before but not on top. Turkeys are on top of cars especially hoppers eating grain thats been spilled while loading, i assume the deer got on top for same reason and then jumped from car to car... -
Blonde buck? hobo? Roaming the tracks...

Cold can sap power very quickly, the higher cost/better models do last longer in cold weather, you get what u pay for. My "cheap cams" are used in later summer early fall only.

Normally i would say now is a good time to locate rubs, rub lines, access your deer herd survivors, and unknown food sources, but with complete lack of mast this year(soft and hard) deer are really in bad shape (contrary to looking good thought so they must be healthy) checked a road kill recently no fat at all and 2-3 months to go. its bad enought here where deer are diggin up the lawn looking for food something they haven't done in 20 years. the patterns you've seen this year now will prolly not be repeated unless you have similar conditions, same with a rub line that is still active, it may not be used next year as the food source situation changes.. find the food find the deer.... What you can do now is become more familiar with the lay of the land, looking for funnels/ pinchpoints. then before season a quick check of those areas will let you know if they are in use. Also now is the time to open up your shooting lanes as the deer have 9 months to get use to the cuts, (cut back 2 ft further than u have so new spring /summer growth doesn't fill in what you trim)

'ts thesame as chufa for turkey they don't know to scratch for it so it will go untuched unless discovered by ltghtly disking it.Brassicas it seems it takes deer a year or two to figure out what brassica is and thats its tasty. cold hardy oats,or winter wheat are also exellent winter forages but have been planted and kknow to game for years.. 2 years ago my turnipps were hardly touched this year the greens were gone by november ad ar enow being dug for the bulbs

I have several friends in clarksville, it has good hunting deer, and seveal bear taken last few years, 10 acres isn't a lot though, make friends with your neighbors, and plenty of stateland close by

I'd definately stay away from stand building, maybe stand site locating... clearing land is different for every piece, rocks, trees, each will have their own problems.

Doc, as i travel for work between ohio and new york, many of the crossbow hunters in ohio also own / use a bow. i've asked dozens of fellow hunters in ohio and most still prefer the bow, but grab the crossbow if the hunt will be short (an hr or so) due to time constraints with work if going for a day they take their bows for a long sit. Most i have talked to are 40 years old and up. I have not heard anyone complain about sharing the woods with crosbows, and like ny most huters are now increasing in age. so perhaps there are more crossbow hunters now due to physical limitations with there increasing age. I don't believe in just numbers as there are always more factors involved that what the survey covered. the people i work with are from all over northern ohio. and they have no problem with them or with out them. They are still a stick n string and therfore should be considered archery equipment.

Yes i agree, many years ago i went on a bear hunt in new brunswick with Will Elliot (buffalo new outdoor writer) and he was fishing for an answer to what the others in camp though of crossbows and if they should be legal or just for handicapped. I told him the problem is not making crossboww legal, but redefining what nys considers handicapped to allow crossbows to be used by them. yes i know draw locks are available but face it buying a car and then adding air conditioning is much differnt than buying one with it already designed in nys idea of handicapped for hunting is a quadroplegic, but gives out handicapped parking passes for a stubbed toe! lol .. He looked at me strangley and said, i never looked at it that way.... I believe it is comming in bow season and will cross my fingers and hope for the best with the new hunters entering the woods.

Not to start a debate but i think if they are allowed, many that have never shot one will 1. Balk at the price tag for a good x-bow and bolt, broadheads. 2. If they do buy will give up quickly as bow hunting and x-bow is a close range sport, it takes more than good equipment to get close to your target bow hunting. 3. I truly hope it keeps many of my rapidly aging friends in the woods during bow so they can enjoy themselves in retirement, because they beat their bodies up working hard all their lives!.

Looks like a nice buck with a good jump on growing his rack

Another thing cams can help you with is after finding a roost area (by listining in the am more than likely), a cam set in either direction will let you know which way the birds like to travel after flying down. this will come in helpful as when setting up on a bird on the roost if you set up on the side he wants to go anyway it helps you get that bird much easier and you won't be the guy/gal saying well it gobbled on the roost like crazy flew down and headed the other direction!!
