lets see wny seems to have quite a few red and orange areas, without antler restrictions despite the high hunter numbers in this area.Seems wisconson leads and no anter restrictions and bonus buck tags can be earned.. if you want a trophy buck you need to hunt where they exist!! Trying to get a trophy buck by manipulation the habitat /age is like trying to squeese blood from a stone... especially when the land area affected is small and hunter per square mile is high.

Hunting coyotes with a 22,,Anyone

.204 ruger is deadly on yote and fox!! i saw someone even using it on pronghorn antelope out west, dropping them at 500 yards.. 3000+fps seems to confirm speed kills!! -
First , you cant compare ny to other states. your big buck states, il,io,oh,ks,missouri for example. Their total number of deer hunters is less than half of the hunters in new york! The average land owner in new york is 50 acres or less, the other states 400 acres plus!! the hunter density per acre is much greater in ny than other "big buck states" their season are much shorter. Your comparing private land/lease with the rest of the state. are big bucks possible here ...yes! many land owners can manage their own harvest or may group together to control a bigger area. Our taxes are 4-5x as high as big buck states! for my own property almost $9,000 a year. i belive i have the right to choose what i shoot what i want size wise! if you want the big bucks here man up buy/lease land enforce your own restrictions. leave the rest of the 400,000 of 500 thousand hunters and myself to choose owr own trophys!

sounds like there will be a 30-06 for sale cheap after his first season..... -
I have had an average of .5 opportunities at a 125 in buck per year during bow, according to my log for last 4 years, i have capitalized 2x. I have seen 1 140 in or better deer at least 1x a year for 6-7 years now, usually during bow way out of range. i have seen 1 during gun and it now resides on my wall. This is all on private land managed for deer/game in wny.

I've had great success with breneke originals. i am confidant with them out to 100yards, use to use actives till they were discontinued. Buy a few different boxes of slugs, remington slugersters, winchester, breneke. see how they group out of your gun(every gun is different)at 25 yards which ever groups best go out and buy 3-5 boxes, sight in your gun for 75 yrds and your all set to 100 yrds(will be 2-4 in low at 100. 1-2 in high at 50yrds ... and keep using theh same slugs for hunting, buying something on sale and not being the best for your gun is not worth it

lots of birds out in field now picking hoppers/crickets. no dog join the 99% of us that don't have one. follow scratchings, the leaves are kicked up behind the birds, find food they are eating, learn to kee kee, and kee kee run, along with whistling. if you can get above a flock and run into them to break them up(you may need to do multiple breaks if birds only splint into 2 groups head in the direction they flew and they will fly out of trees and scatter again) go to spot you broke them up of within reasonable distance 50 yrs perhaps. set up and call!! birds will come back most are very vocal! A group of adult gobblers is an entire different thing and is the hardest turkey hunting there is. but hit a mixed flock and have fun!!!

looks like a couple of good 2.5 year olds...
-
looking at pic on other post , I think he was prolly a real good 1.5 when you passed him as a 6 . 99% of the hunter on this sire would love to take a 2 year old( most score 100's . prolly 3.5 this year, body still not fully developed he's still in velvet, mass is not there, brows are short, much stronger on left than rt side. mid 130's. might get there next year if he makes it....
-
in velvet, not enough mass, short brows will hurt as well... left side much stronger that rt. out of velvet ....130's when i shot my 8 everyone that saw it was screaming boone n crocket...it takes a lot of bone legnth, and mass especially to get to 150... let alone a booner at 170... 10pt plus is what is needed . should be close if he makes it to 4.5 or 5.5 but he may grow more points by then as well 3.5 he is just a young buck still when it come s to maturity..
-
here is the 8pt i got a few years ago.. 152 gross, 146 net , you pick looks like its still in velvet, this had long beams great with and mass, deer was 7.5 years old by dec, 8.5 by tooth cementum rings by museum in buffalo.

-
my big 8 was 152 gross 146 net, with 27 in beams and a 24 " inside spread, sorry geno but i'l go with mid 130's gross maybe 132 net great buck either way!!

the deer cane is meant to be eaten, the apple gel, or cheaper yet apple cider in a spray bottle sprayed into the air is purely a scent.
-
If that 6 pt was from here 9w i'd say 1.5 but every region is different.
-
2.5 year old maybe 3.5 let him walk.....
-
i would definatley focus on 2bc and 3c, by the topo grid. nice shelf, trail comming off a saddle, ridge to marsh 2 and looks to be edge of steep hill. 2 efg will need some foot work as they are larger benches and thickness/edge of cover will be important. as your small field doesnt show at all it is also a coever break/edge stand possibility depending on sign.

doc, if you own the property, or have permission to drop a few trees, limbs, red maple are best, the fresh buds and leaves at ground level are an instant magnet...ever hear a logger say the deer come running to the sound of a chainsaw?? they are browsers first and this is a good was to bring them in, even a few limbs will do it as soon as they are discovered..

my opinion ..its the parents, they want their kids their friends... they are your kids, punishment at a young age keeps them in line when older. tough to do when they are raised in group daycare, watch pregant teen moms on tv, and promise to call protective services when threatend.. Start young before they are exposed to it, tell them you don't approve of their friends if they ask. My parents seemed to like all of my friends but one , told me he wasnt welcome in their house, in the end they were right, he'ss till in jail and i'm glad i listened to them and drifted away from him as a friend.

i would look at cover break locations for old rubs(maybe new ones as well) ex 3d or 2d,e,f. assuming south /east wind. other cover break area 1 f,g and 2 g on edge of marsh as well (not much in your red area there but worth looking at. a topo would be helpfull in that area as it might show a small bench deer will bed/ travel around marsh. i assume you are planning on using the loggin road as your access, predominat wind should be taken into account in using it..ease of travel yes, but if doing so does your scent blow into bedding areas? north or nw wind it might be ok...
