Japan has always harvested from the ocean its an island!!!, i really dont see the difference between this and bluefin tuna fishing (the big fish are dissapearing) i don't think the ocean can sustain our human population harvesting it as we do. I don't eat seafood at all unless its farm raised usually freshwater fish. Cod, marlin, swordfish, salmon they are all in danger in my opinion.. humans seem to like them to much and with money to be made......

Well i for one have seen a increse of hunters not only at my camp but at work as well. Ten years ago i couldn't get vacation for hunting season as there were quite a few older hunters with a lot more senoritiy. five years ago there were only a handful of guys that hunted left that didn't retire and i was able to get my vacations. now they have hired more than 50 new men of which i know 15 that hunt all of these guys are 18-30. they have the same complaint i had when i started older guys that hunt get the vacations!

plus the rut is forcast for thanksgiving week... last year it was first week in nov.... i know the acorns by me are non existant, beechnut are loaded and hickory is present in large numbers, apples are everywhere..like walking on golf balls(last year there were very few due to late frost killing blossoms). the corn by me was put in very late and has not yet dented or blacktipped. That with the excessive rain, probably has things a little different than usual

We had a 4 point like him around for 4 years could never get a shot, just always out of range. the neighbors boys took him finially and his forks had shrunk although he had 4 in bases... was glad to see him leave the gene pool.

If you know he was there last year he's probably still around. Just look at it this way...no sign may discourage other hunters from hunting near there!

sure is possible if their prefered bedding areas are under water, or may be different food sources that are available now.lot of crops were put in late due to a rainy spring

fall hunting is different than spring hunting where calling is more important.. Fall hunting is lookng for scratchings in the leaves...a lot will mean a big flock you can tell the direction the birds are going in by looking at the leaves they throw behind them head in that direction to try to catch up to them. are there a lot of scratchings of different ages? if there are that may be a good place to sit and call using lost yelps and keekee runs. If you find a flock its best to try to break them up then you can call them back easily. if you spot a flock out in a field you can try to get ahead of them and call again with lost yelps and kee kee runs. The N.W.T.F has a web site and you may find some tips there.. fall hunting usually entails a lot of walking to find the birds. If you do happen to see some late in the day an early morning flush from the roost may be the ticket. if you know a roost area that is a good place in the mornings. or evenings waiting for them to come back to the area

Create a sanctuary, as large as possible. make it thick as u can. hinge cut or felling less desirable tree species. Started doing this in 1999 and consistantly can take 5 buck and 10 doe a year off the property. last year was 11 buck and 10 doe, 197 deer 75 were antlered buck since 1999. do not go into the sancutary ever!! year round it must be off limits except to track deer that goes into it and that should be done at night. the only other intrusion would be late winter to fell more trees and thicken it up. dont go looking for sheds in it .. don't shoot into it!! This has let us take at least 1 buck a year that will make nysbbc. and several very nice 2 year olds... This is more important than food plots antler restriction, ect.. they can't grow old if there is no place safe to hide!!

The need to educate on deer and deer nutrition.
G-Man replied to hb270deermanager's topic in General Hunting
I prefer to think of it as total game management. The QDM moniker has gotten a bad rap as its been twisted to sound like trophy deer management! This turns off a lot of would be supporters who may believe in plots and such but do not own enough land or can get enough neighbors to particpate in increasing the age structure. I originaly started to manage my woodlands for grouse. its evolved for deer, turkey and recently bear. Not to mention countless song birds and small game. I think anything that is done is better than nothing! Though most hunters prefer to concentrate on deer, i get 2 seasons to hunt turkey! and a much longer small game season! -
Well to me its the same as shooting a big tom out of a tree.. its legal! if you found it got that close to it shoot it or walk over and crack it with a stick! What if it was a big rooster running through a cornfield that wouln't flush ? or a rabbit that you happened to catch sitting still?? i STILL LIKE TO EAT what i shoot and a tom out of a tree or phesant on the ground or grouse in a tree or on the ground all taste good to me!

I still think your habitat is condusive for does ...bucks like different habitat. there around just not on your property.... untill they need to find one to breed. but if there are a lot of doe and not many buck the doe will go look for a buck..again not on your property....
