Thats what i was going for ...the person u use to hunt private land and lost it but won't hunt stateland due to perception of crowds and unsafe conditions. they wont introduce kids because they feel they dont have a place to hunt...

well, i know there are great video of long shots with crossbows and regular bows, same with long shots with rifle.. heck what the new record for a kill with a sniper 1 mile plus..most people are not capable of these shots though their weapon is. I'm not worried about an army of x bow shooters in the woods .... woodsmanship is the key, getting close to game i'm sure some new xbow shooters will be successful but there will be many who lose interest quickly as they can be a great target shot buts will never make a bow-type(close range) hunter

I wonder if this is actually the biggest problem or if its hunting access? I mean if you could take your kids/friends onto private property where they would have a much safer experiance that would create more hunters, plus how many have given up after close calls on stateland?? Age may be a factor... to a point.... but its tough to recruit new hunters if you dont really have a good place to take them regardless of their age!!

I been flushing a lot of woodcock the last few days! I can't remember the last time i've seen so many. I might have to get a stamp and my hip number this year! Anyone else seeing them around??

Hanging bog is right across the valley from me..i now have 4 different bears on camera. there have been 3 bear taken in the last 3 years that i know of. 1 in hanging bog by a bow hunter 250 lbs or so. Another by a bow hunter right off cuba lake 2 years ago was nuisence bear from alleghny st.park tags in its ears, and a gun hunter last year got a 300lb boar 2 properties to the north of me last year.. these are ones i saw. there might be more. the beach nuts are loaded this year that will be a big draw for them. Had bear opened 1st week of gun last year we could of taken 3 possibly 4 off my property. .

Well a lot of peoples fist mount looks good to them they got a inexpensive mount done..then they get another from a different taxidermist becasue they have a little more extra cash to spend and the comparison shocks them how bad the 1st one is. This happened to a frind of mine who got a big 9 pt. showed it to me i didn't like it and tried to explain what was wrong with it ...he defended it and he was happy untill he got a big 10 pt that won a contest and got it mounted for free by a good taxidermist...he had plans to hang it next to his other head..untill they were on the wall together..he now hangs them in seperate rooms the free mount by a good taxidermist is in the place of honor in the living room and the paid for 1st mount he got a deal on is in the den... you need to pay for what you get..not saying the top $ charged is the best taxidermist, a lot of big shops charge a lot and they show the master' taxidermists mounts on display but they might have 3-4 more training taxidermists doing your mount...

local corn will grow..all corn is dried evenout west i have a friend who raises beef cattle in iowa and he grows his own corn....to 10-12 % moisture... dont belive it grab some whole kernals out of your bird food and do a germ test on them... Grows sounds like you found a guy that gets corn seed from the turkey fed or safari club...rr ready seed corn earmarked for wildlife plantings!

Doc had the bear in the treestand several times last year...not a pleasent thing.. plus to add insult to injury it would tear up the seats!!! Not as bad as my one friend last year who was in a stand and had the mother and cub come in under him and not leave for 2 hrs after sunset.. wouldn't have been to much of a problem but the stand is only 6' off the ground and he was in between the cub eating apples, and the mother tearing up a rotten log looking for grubs.. He didn' want to make noise to scare them as he was in the only tree the cub would probably climb and he was low enough the mother could of swiped him out of the stand..and getting down between a mother and cub is not really smart... Thankfully a text to me to come scare them away via driving the tractor back to get him ended the situation before something could of happened....

Personally i've seen an influx of new hunters in my area, i believe a lot of decreasing hunter numbers are that the spouses that use to buy a licence no longer do as liberal bag limits and doe tags are available. so there is no need to have another hunter so you could get a party permit or another tag to fill the freezer. So a lot of these hunters are no longer in the sport....

Well i am sorry ignorant person or persons stiole the stand...but maybe the deer arent being affected by the camera but but other humans in the area scenting it up... i've left and area for a week or two to cool down only to find out someone else was using the area..here i think i' hunting an undisturbed area only to find out the nice elderly neighbor was walking her dog thru it 2x a day...... a short polite conversation took care of that but i still wonder about tresspasser, neighbor hood kids messing it up... seems like posted signs are just decoration......

What is the ONE thing you learned last year and will remember this season?
G-Man replied to regulat0r's topic in Bow Hunting
watched and learned where the bear come onto my property..last year always in groups..moved a stand closer this year i hope to catch one as a single! -
I've asked this question for years, the reply i got was the numbers of turkey tags sold in wny vs the popullation of turkey. they do not know how many hunters specfically hunt fall bird only hte number of turkey tags bought, tho many are bought as package or as if i see one bow hunting.. the dec must consider every tag bought as a fall and spring hunter.. so wny and much of central is a 1 bird area...hunter population ...

Acorns or apples. or any major food source in large abundance will affect deer movement. if you can get good food 50 yards from where you sleep why would you travel a mile? Everyone seems to be happy when there a lot of acorns but really the deer travel less the same is true for banner apple years. this year acorns are down here but apples are loaded. i have an abandoned apple orchard that is about 15 acres in size ...last year 3 trees had apples hunting was easy.. sit on one of the 3 apple trees and get a deer coming to eat!! this year the entire 15 acres is loaded..deer can enter and exit anywhere to eat!! I for one am not fond of banner mast years.. id rather scout and find a few producing trees that concentrate the deer feeding / movement.

i personally would like to see smaller wmu's i remember when 9w and 9m were 1 unit. change happens but its slow.. for those that see no deer but shoot ever deer that crosses their 10 acres you can control your own herd. My propery consistantly produces almost 8-10% of the entire town take... according to dec numbers. i know my property can withstand taking 10 doe a year off it without hurting our hunting next year. i guess its like this if you want to state to manage everything ok... but i'll manage my own within the guidelines they allow. not sure how i'll accomplish this if they go to no either sex tag for bow / muzzloader.. maybe apply for dmap...

I've used the luminocks for 4 years ..i prefer the green. last 40 hr or so. work great! makes finding an arrow a lot easier after the sun sets especially in long grass. I've only had 1 arrow not pass through a deer and it was neat to watch the deer run with the arrow lit up! of course when it died it lay nock side down.. but it gave me a good bearing to find the blood trail and find the deer rapidly... I have a friend that use some kind of magnet activated nock and they worked fine till he travel to camp and realized that vibration also turned them on in the bed of his truck..wasn't to happy as they were on for quite awhile.

I've used them for years,Will bring in buck and doe of all ages. Best if you get them from at least 2 miles from where you hunt. You can look as them as a deers calling card any deer in the area will come in downwind from them and try to find/see the new guy/gal! I've learned one thing not to put them out before legal shooting light as i've had deer come very quickly and i cant see to shoot! Seem to last 2-4 days as when exposed to warm air they start to rot.. i've removed them from road kill as well never even gave it a thought if it was illegal...i try to use them fresh, the seem to lose some potency when frozen and thawed....dont forget to swap them with sucessful hunters from other areas!!
-
i'd move the camera to just the trail the buck is on looking down it at least a 45 or more angle.. remove all twigs n brush in front of it..

nice pics...

That was 5 men hunting 8 bird limit each..

far shots, mech broadheads, low poundage bows for the women... idk... havent watched a hunting show in about 2 years don't really miss it... the biggest problem they create is unrealistic evpectations for new hunters, and a few wanbe's .. my friends daughters 10years old a few years ago decided to sit with their dad in a blind to hunt... after 10 min they turned to him and asked where are the deer like on tv daddy... talk about a let down for him... try explaining that its not like on tv and then why they hunt where/how they do... all the time trying to get your kids into hunting.....
