  1. I prefer large hang-on stand at least a 24 x 36 in platform with a foldable seat with a hight of 22in. this leaves a slope on the thigh when sitting and its a lot easier to get up when a deer is sneaking in. you can hug a tree and get nearly 360* of shooting. not to mention i can leave a lot of limbs on the tree for cover. ladders always seem to squeek and when you stand up your 1 1/2 foot or more away from the tree.
  2. well if you plow and disc and disc again 10-14 days later you can eliminate 90% of the weeds. if you then drag and plant it immediatly with a fast growning grain like winter wheat/oats/rye and mix it together with clover you'll have a good clover plot next spring or fall. the oats/grain out compete the weeds and shade them out, giving the clover a chance to grow in the shade(they prefer cooler weather). you'll need to mow the clover 3-4 times over the next year to keep compeating grasses out. If your planting corn/sunflowers/sorgum a sprayer is nice to kill off compatition before planting. the thing you did by brush hogging now is spread seed around all grasses and most weeds have gone to head.. it needs to germinate before you spray or your wasting your $. some weed seeds remain viable foe up to 100 years in the soil. mowing will knock out 99% of your weeds if your vigilent in mowing the 1st year of a clover crop is the most important. mow the tops of grasses off before it starts to head or seed. you may have to do it 3-4 times from end of may thru july. weed control is possible without spraying but it is more time consuming than spraying.
  3. some nice ones, its always amazing how big ones can avoid the camera especially when you 've seen them with bino's
  4. my area is at medium with no chance for a second permit. i have 10 people hunting. there have been quite a few years that it took till mz season to get the 10 doe. to get 10 doe tag your talking high and high for second permit. the increase will be there but i dont see it getting up that high. As for buying a licence for the right to hunt with that weapon.. many $$ will be lost to the state, guys want a tag for their $ and face it its all about $$. i just dont think it was thought all the way through by the dec.
  5. the best part about an 30-06 is if you forget your ammo at home on a hunting trip or i gets lost in luggage. every store in the world,or someone in the area has 30-06 ammo around. not true with some mag/wildcat and even lesser rounds.
  6. I self regulate my deer population within the dec allowed rules. i need to take 10 doe a year from my property, this is done thru the either sex and anterless only tags provided with your supersportsman. the dmps are iffy in my area and we as a group would not get enough tags to do this. yes 10 doe seem like a lot but we have been doing this since 1995 and it works for us.
  7. so again what is your 3rd tag for a supersportsman?? they will take your money but no tag just a chance of a dmp? if all anterless tags are to be dmps, unlike the current system of 3 tags. buck, either sex, and anterless.(not dpm) plus chance for 2 dmp. the new system will be buck , buck, ????, chance for 2 dmp? your getting ripped off as mz (if you buy all your tags) is an anterless now and what will it be replaced with under the new proposal???
  8. the propoasl is for all ANTERLESS TAGS TO BE DMPS!! YES that includes your either sex tag! so what does that do to your anterless only tag you get now eliminate it??
  9. doe tags are given out immediatly and have been vaild for the entire bow season for a few years now. so i dont see a problem there. the second lottery is usually for undersuscribed areas like 9f? around buffalo(my area never has extra after theh application process). as i apply when i buy my licence i am getting it the sametime as all other bow hunters would anyway. the only people that should be having a problem with this are those that buy a supersportsman, nothing has been said as to what 3 tags will be issued.. yes 1 buck for bow 1 for reg season but what for mzloder? now is an anterless only... seems everyone forgot this and is worried about either sex tag going(i usually hold out for a decent buck in bow anyway). but the 3rd tag was alway anterless valid anywhere bow or mz, now what are they going to do issue a 3rd buck tag? i have read and reread the proposal and do not see the answer for what the 3rd tag will be.....
  10. Meat grinds better partially frozen, if doing fresh use the larger plate as it will be to "pate "like if you use smaller plate as it will smoosh thru instead of cut. i use a 1/2 hp grinder from cabellas and its tough to keep up with it...
  11. 2 1/2 would be my ascessment. still a long neck and underdeveloped shoulders, yes its summer but a 3 or 4 year old would be tough to see definition around the brisket area, in older deer it blends even when not in rut. in rut you cant tell where the neck ends/shoulder begins nice buck good potential
  12. Still no answer what tag do you get for mz if you already bought bow and reg season...they would have to issue you a tag when you buy your licence..another buck tag? Now is an anterless only valid anywhere in the state. But new plan puts all anterless in dmp's so what do you get for the money you spend?
  13. So. A buck tag for bow,a buck tag for regular,so what for mz? A chance for a dmp?....can't find an answer anywhere....
  14. or if i buy all my tags do i get a doe tag automatically?... or 1 buck tag and 2 automatic doe tags?? i really don't think this was thought thru to well for those of us that buy a super sportsman....
  15. Cant say i've seen it at all on my property. though i have seen and delt with it in clarence,ny didnt know it was increasing...
  16. true they are out there.. escapees or releases. heck i even saw an ostrich in the woods once. doesnt mean i'll ever see a breeding population..
  17. i prefer a light coat oversized so that i can layer under it as the seasn gets colder. I'm a big fan of skyline, but natgear or predator or even mathews lost camo are great treestand patterns. very open, not dark like a lot of national brands. it matters how it looks to a deer not how good it looks to you!
  18. Wouldn't your chances remian the same for a dmp? they would be valid during all seasons. the real question is if they give a buck only tag for bow, and you get a buck only tag for regular gun. and presently if you also buy muzzleloader you get an anterless tag. so if they want all antlerless on dmp and i buy all tags do i get another buck tag for muzzleloader? giving me 3 buck for the year?.... yeah that will help the age structure.... :
  19. Nice buck! Now if he just sticks around till oct/nov!
  20. Nice shots as always! The one is a green heron?
  21. The advantage a crossbow has over a compound is better marketing department! the hunting industry is swamped with x-bow stuff right now....
  22. Wow lot of flies on that buck!. maybe feeding on water sprouts(suckers) from the exposed roots of the thornapple
  23. so the guy was already in violation of the law to begin with 100 yard rule ini missouri. i still dont see a problem with 50 yards. most normal people will be shooting away from buildiings. you cannot not let others do something because of a few idiots. using that reasoning no one would be allowed a gun either because it might accidentally go off.....
  24. I hope they both make it...ar's wouldn't save them even if in place. Glad you have the restraint to pass!
