What generates the heat in the pellet tray ?
-
Nope Ben Gardiner was in his half sunken boat .

Pork butts came out ok . Not the greatest. Next smoker will be an offset smoker . Think I would like something different than the masterbuilt electric I have. I struggle in the summer to get smoke at lower temps . Electric element is thermostat generates cook heat and smoke . Hits temp and shuts off killing smoke . Tried the slow smoker accessory . Gravity fed with chips . Chips get stuck in the tube and stops smoking ... pain in the rear. Family liked it though. Constant tinkering made for a long day. Smoker works best between 40 and 70 degrees outside temp.

Have a couple butts going on the smoker this morning ... kids and grandkids coming over tonight for supper.

Great smoker ..... I would get invited to more parties if I had that . ...

Shot placement is everything regardless of caliber or bullet in my opinion . V max and such are rapid expansion bullets . Not desirable for pelts or penetration on medium game . A lot of medium game bullets such as the remington corelocks and hornaday sst are in my opinion fragile bullets . Push a bullet that's today's cup and core jacket type they blow up . Never understood wanting a bullet for deer that put fist size holes through a deer. When I got back into rifle hunting here in 8y i had to have a 270. Gramps use to talk up nosler partitions and corlocks. First deer shot at 40 yrds corlocks blew up on shoulder destroying both ... picked fragments out of back straps. Same on next buck. Both deer drt. Next season went to federals blue box ... even worse . Switched to nosler partitions much better results . For short woods shots there's much better calibers and bullets. Picked up a ruger m77 in 308 . Shooting federal fusion 165 grain gilded bullets . Very accurate slower round heavier bullet . Full penetration . Less destruction of meat. I have killed deer out to couple hundred yds no problem . Deer all die drt or less than 2o feet. I have killed deer with 243 . Lighter bullet shots on shoulders you better have a well built bullet. Tracked one for a family member that hit shoulder and the bullet fragged. She hit it a second time and it got up and ran before I put it down with a 308 through the neck. Track over all was 2hrs and 500 plus yds. I'm not sure I would think 223 is an ideal round for deer. I know deer are killed with them as well as 204 ruger . With the right bullet there's no doubt they will kill in the hands of a capable rifleman . We all know chit happens. Not enough power and mass to pick up the slack of a poor shot. That said I have taken deer over the years with everything from a 22 lr up to 300 ultra 30/06 45/70.. 12 guage slugs 44 mag ,480 ruger. 308 encore. Boils down to shot placement, well built bullet , speed time's mass.

How many times if any have you been lost in the woods ?
Nytracker replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Lost once turned around once . 18 years old I hunted into Connecticut hills state forest fresh snow on the ground . A good 6 inches . Light snow . Half a mile in I cut fresh deer tracks and the game was on . Followed tracks for 100 yds sneaking . Buck started half loops and watching back trail . Started looping on his tracks and sighted him 2 times with no shots. He picked up a couple does. Worked him for a long while . Snow coming down hard . Finally worked into a stand of pines and spotted a deer bedded . Couple more steps and spot 2 more deer. Doe with a fawn and big doe . Looked hard and no horns . Picked biggest doe out . Whisled and as she stood up I flattened her with a 12 guage brennecki out of my ithica deer slayer. Up jumped big buck the other side of a thicket no shot . Dressed doe in a hurry slapped a drag rope on and started dragging. Up hill and to the west looking to cut a road I had parked on . Up one ridge down a gully and up another. Should have hit road by now . I'm lost . Hear a vehicle off to my east a long ways away strike out in that direction down a gully up and down again ... back to the top and a hear multiple vehicles down hill . Drag another 200yds and hit a dirt rd going down hill. Stash doe in brush mark the spot with two branches opposite side of rd and mark with red handkerchief. Walked for 20 minutes into the dark and a truck pulls up. Guy asks if I wanted a ride . Hopped in told the guy where I parked . He laughed and says son you must be lost ... your a long ways from where you parked . He turned the truck around stopped picked up my deer and drove me to my car . I must have been 3 or 4 miles from where I parked the opposite direction . Glad the guy picked up my deer .. snow was so deep I don't think I could have reached the stash spot. Snowed so hard you couldn't see the tracks from my truck or tracks from leaving in the morning. I look at the map now and l am amazed how far I tracked and dragged that doe . Bought a compass and learned how to use it that following year . Also keep a toppo map of Connecticut hill . -

Channel has always been narrow and shallow. Many many moons ago I launched my 17 foot aluminum by myself and boat slid off trailer crossed the channel and got stuck in the mud on the other side ... had to tie off the boat to the trailer and tug it off with truck..
-
They use to have a launch at the hotel in hammonds port years ago..... it was junk then probably fell the rest of the way in...
-
Yup it begins ..... dont forget the boat box ... tools extra plugs ... electrical tape . crimp pliers and connectors. Dont forget to make sure you have a lug wrench for the trailer tires. Made that mistake once . Pictures of the boat would be great now that she is cleaned up .

Have you had it out for a shake down yet ?

MIG and TIG Pipe Welder wanted in Rochester, NY
Nytracker replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in NY Area Job Board
I looked at gas well work a while back . They were throwing money around like it was confetti at new years . Guaranteed 120k a year starting before overtime .Truck, tools and gas cc. Out of town work they paid big food and room steipen . 2 weeks on call 24 -7. One week off. Was very tempting. The guy that was trying to get me on board would have been my direct boss. They had me as a team leader of sorts. Little over a year later the whole outfit got sold and everybody was layed off. The guy that would have been my boss had to uproot his family and moved to Arkansas to stay working. He fell asleep at the wheel on his way home from work and was killed. The OP job is a good wage for southern tier area at $30/hr . I doubt it's that good for Rochester.
