  1. Wooly bugger Mickey fin and stonefly in that order then shrimp. Big guys might be a little large for brookies

  4. Lampricide program. It tree huggers would quit fighting the program they think they could wipe them out in the finger lakes. They keep getting court injunctions every couple years and the program has to start over .
  5. I have 2 barberry bushes the wife planted a few years ago ... I hate them . Now I have an excuse to rip the bastages out of the ground .
  6. I hate water snakes. Very aggressive critter and they do bite but not venomous. Nothing worse than stepping on a mating ball of a few hundred water snakes . Tall grass ... on an island in the middle of a river... screaming like a little girl ... .. not me ... um it was a friend of mine... really.
  7. I have fished west Canada. Fished it in the morning below the dam . Rough fishing as the damn was running alot of water . Managed two nice browns 16 to 18 inches that morning . Rough go of it in the high water. Fish fought like 25 inchers. Talked to a local and he convinced me to stay for the evening sulphur hatch . They shut the dam off and made the river wadable .I'm glad I stayed.. Some of the best dry fly fishing I ever had . The local guy met me there and we fished until dark. I had the hot fly that night . Parachute sulphur. Was worth the 5 hr trip home at night . Wifey wasn't happy with me getting home at 2 am . I ended up sending that guy a dozen flies a week later. He offered to let me camp on his property if I ever came back up . Never got back up there.
  8. You will be amazed how a trout materializes out of the stream bottom . Brook trout tend to live in skinny water and are very weary. Be careful of shadows sudden movements and bright clothes and noise. That said they will take a fly like they haven't eaten in a year. They dont tend to be fussy. Royal coachman ausable wolf's. Caddis. Lite leaders 7x 8x . Look for shady spots and overhanging brush. Brook trout seem to like tannic water and rocky bottoms when it comes to streams.
  9. 4 years old with daisy red rider for Christmas. Graduated to crossman pneumatic at 8 or so . Shortly after 22 rifles . Guess sometime in there I shot my first centerfire rifles .
  10. I give money to various organizations. I donate time . I would not give money to ny state in any form . They cannot be trusted to put the money where it's intended.
  11. Fished yesterday with nephew. Went north of Ithaca to fish Fall creek water was muddy and high. Hit a fly shop and bought him a new fly rod for graduation. Broke it in a a stream closer to home . He got a nice brown and I got 3. Water is still pretty cold for this time of year . 3 PM still some hendricksons coming off. Fish weren't looking up . All fish caught on streamers. Boy is getting better but dear old uncle is still out fishing the kid . Patience technique and reading water beats running up and down the stream.
  12. Cool and windy guys .... never real talkative on a cool down ... then add wind .
  13. .I do buy local 95% time . Local guy didn't have the machine i wanted and said it would be a few weeks before he could get it in . Plus the fact the beaver blade attachment was more money through him . He was more interested in selling me a yellow and white one that I had already rejected on to much plastic on critical parts, smaller engine, and poor reviews. Good friend and coworker has the yellow and white one he bought last year and has been plagued with mechanical problems and broken parts.
  14. Ok so ordered factory direct . Saved 100 bucks and free shipping. Ordered the beaver saw blade attachments with it . Then the upsell begins ... extended warranty... string... 20 dollars ... 11 bucks shipping . Cant you put it in the same box ? Nope. 11 bucks for shipping the saw blade ... can you combin the saw blade and string ship in same box ? Nope . Send the saw . Keep the string . You want oil with that ... yup more shipping . I will go to wall mart for string and oil .
  15. Push lawn mower 20 years old deck is roached out and wont start . Weed whacker is 15 years old wont stay running . Rebuilt carb 2 years ago replaced filter and fuel lines . I use non ethanol gas with stabilizer. Looking at a walk behind dr trimmer . Little pricey but the same money as a new trimmer and mower combined. I mow with a tractor so I need a trimmer to do 400 ft of guardrail around the house and the 30 or so trees in the yard. Anybody have experience with walk behind trimmers or other dr products?
  16. Great bird ..... wth is that blue sky in that pic . Haven't seen blue sky in a while ... blue sky and sun would be nice .
  17. Use to torture the kids ... had x mas story on for 24 hrs ... used it to drive them to their rooms for peace and quiet . Now they show up Christmas day and I turn it on . Until they go home .... they still haven't a clue why I like that movie so much.
  18. I just got my first mowing in yesterday . My lawn use to be a solid 8 . 2 acres. Last years flooding destroyed the back yard . Alot of stone embedded in sand . Washed away the top soil . I cleaned all the flood debris . There is just no top soil to grow grass. I cant get topsoil in yet . Called my guy and said he cant screen as it's still wet . Called a couple others and got the same answer. Creek has flooded 3 times in last 5 years. I think it would be a waste of time to replace the topsoil out there. I will have to suffer through with a 4 for now .
  19. You guys are killing me ... almost makes me want to get the 10 guage out and go hunting in the rain.
  20. My apple trees just started popping in 8w. Frost Tuesday and Wednesday.
  21. That looks like the old Remington stand I had . Used that for 20 years . Great stand . Seat section grew into tree and I now use it to set my day pack on .
