  1. Dont know about today's cost but I heated my raised ranch from the ground up with rice coal . Did it for about 8 years. Wife didn't like the dust so we fired up the natural gas and sold the coal stove . Once the concrete got warm the house was toasty. Let the concrete get cold and it took 3 days to heat back without the help of the gas furnace.
  2. Cool never heard of a white red tail . Wish it was better pictures. Have any better pics ?
  3. Out walking dogs this morning ... what a beautiful morning to be in the woods, if only I could . Good luck.
  4. Load of manure and all straw mulch tilled in .3 weeks and the garlic goes in. Then I'm done .
  5. Had to give up the bow a few years ago. Work related injury. Moving railroad jack. Tried to one hand it over a piece of equipment. Dr said put off surgery as long as I can. Insurance only opted for shots. Pain is still there all be it not all the time. Shooting bow makes it extremely painful for days after 12 arrows. Tried shooting a 45lbs bow last year and it was no good. Dr said if I have surgery I will be off 4 to 6 months from work. Can't afford that. I recently took an administrative job where I'm not turning wrench or lifting like I use to. I think next year after I'm established in my position I will look into surgery. I may never be able to shoot bow but hopefully I will sleep through the night on my side, without waking up in pain. Really wish they would allow crossbow all season. Missing bow hunting really bad with this mornings frost.
  6. Looks like a deflated bicycle innertube. Or it got run over by a track driven vehicle.
  7. They were arrested and charged with fraud. They should sleep with the fishes .
  8. More meat on a young buck than most does .. good for you fast Eddie. Congrats!
  9. With frost potential Sunday, Monday,Tuesday and Fri this next week has me planning my garden for next year. I think I'm pulling the rest of the garden this week. I have made arrangements for my BIL to drop a dump trailer of manure so I can get it tilled in after I pull this years fabric. I will till in all the straw I used for mulch after any crop residue from this year is removed . In about 2 weeks I will put a bag of lime on the garden . This will set the micro organisms up for a grand buffet for the fall and spring. As my gramps use to say a great beginning starts with a greater ending to the garden season. Rotating my garlic patch to the other end of the garden. Even after harvesting almost 90 cloves of garlic the wife says I need more. We used quite a bit of garlic making pickles and she is planning on canning alot of venison , should I get a couple of deer.
  10. And how was the fishing ?
  11. Just buy new ones. You can patch but they will leak again the rubber is dry rot. Nothing worse than a leaky wader in cold water.
  12. Flea Beatles are common problem . You have to spray for them . I use seven insecticide . Spray every 7 days to break the life cycle for 4 weeks and then spray as needed when they return. It won't eradicate them for good but will slow them down.
  13. Wife use to make cherry preserves back when we had sour cherry trees . They died off and I never replanted them. Opted for apple trees. Now they are on their downward cycle dont know if I will replant the orchard. I do miss the homemade cherry preserves.
  14. My bruslesprouts have exploded with the cooler temps and all the rain in the last few weeks . They are 40 plus inches tall and tons of fresh growth.
  15. Crunchy on my pbj with cherry preserve. Smooth on my peanut butter and banana sandwiches.
  16. With a another frost advisory we picked the Butternut squash and covered the remaining pepper plants. Still alot of peppers to come . Bruslesprouts will get picked this weekend
  17. I couldn't afford to hunt in Europe. Would love to hunt stag or a driven hunt for boar.
  18. Might not kill them but should slow down the hatch. With the rain and cooler temps it shouldn't be a big problem . But if it warms up could rebound . As I recall reading on the midge life cycle the mud has to warm up to a certain temp with the right amount of moisture to cause a hatch.
  19. Wish the wife liked it cooler. I sleep with just a sheet . She has 3 blankets and a heated mattress pad. In the winter she runs the furnace at 68 and if its real cold its 73. My gas and electric bill is killer.
