  1. I shoot 10 and two 12's for turkey. It's an interesting, yet short sighted argument. Guys like to say with modern x-y-z (add the shell tech of your choice) you don't need 10ga, or you don't need 3.5" shells, or 3" shells, or even a 12 ga. As if SOMEHOW the advances in tech only applies to 2 3/4" shells, or 20ga or even 410. If you have 2 feet of string and you tie it to 2 feet of string, get 4 feet of string. But if you start off with 6 feet of string, and add 2 feet of string..... But then I pattern two of my turkey guns at 55 yards. Why? Because I can. Heck, just about anything throws a usable pattern at 30 yards. Do I want to shoot birds at 55 yards and beyond? No, but it's nice to know that I can.
  2. I just can't see how it's going to get enough water after say July. The thread reminds me of a now gone friends camp... their water was spring fed, no well or tank. So the sinks ran (had to) 24 hours a day, 367 days a year.
  3. We started out with a Marlin .22 with Stingers and then a Remington 5mm Magnum. Then moved up to a Savage 340 in .222, a Remington 700 in .22-250 and a Mini-14 in 223 of course. (which contrary to what most people think, can be accurate. A good scope/mount, handloads, and minor trigger job and shooting it like a muzzle loader... actually probably slower). While I never used it, I watched my dad hit them to 300 yards with the Mini. I did some very occasional chuck hunting in later years on the last available field with my contenders pistols. I have taken others as "targets of opportunity" with handguns... and missed one with a bow once. The second to last one I shot was with a .50 Kentucky rifle. The last one was with an old Enfield and a round of .303 British that was loading in 1934!
  4. Remember, you MUST wear a mask in public and you MUST stay at least six feet away.
  5. Good.. hold those black flies off a couple more weeks.
  6. The first time you drop your release out of your tree stand you'll realize why wrist strap is better. And the first time I dropped my wrist strap out of my tree, I was glad I had my old thumb release in my back as a spare.
  7. My woodchuck rifles have mostly collected dust since the mid 80's. The farm fields we hunted are all now over grown, no longer farming, or have houses on them.
  8. It doesn't seem to have changed much considering all the people I see wearing bandanas over their face. (While I haven't been wearing a mask, I do have several in my jacket pocket and have been giving them out to people in stores when I see them with their make shift face rags). How is the emperor declaring everyone MUST wear them helping that situation? And how exactly were people keeping them from the medical establishment being able to get them? I don't know any hospitals that are buying them in 3 packs from Home Depot. Nor do I know any people who have accounts with major medical supply companies. Fear and untruths spread more fear and untruths.
  9. The same people who for a month told us we shouldn't wear them.
  10. There seems to be no one enforcing the now 100mph speed limit, who's going to enforce the mask law rule?
  11. One of the SUNY diploma factories.
  12. Amongst other things.... I've spent the last 28 years at one of the state run liberal indoctrination centers.
  13. My only addition is just because you don't see any cars/trucks parked, don't assume there's no one hunting.
  14. I've watched it through a couple times. When people I know are new to Netflix and ask what they should watch, the first things I say is Breaking Bad. The second is Hell on Wheels. Though that may not be good, it sets the var kind of high.
  15. Nope, nope, latest word is we have enough now. Did they cut down Andy's air time or something?
  16. I put a relatively cheap Simmons red dot on my NEF when I got it, because I had to! It shot about a foot and a half high! Been thinking of replacing it though, because after 25 years I'm starting not to trust it and thinking it may be wandering.
  17. Magazines get lost, mag releases accidentally depressed and fall out. Lots of malfunctions require the mag to be removed to clear them. It's not uncommon to end up losing 2-3 live rounds when that happens. If you're carrying a sub compact that holds 5-7 rounds total, that's no small percentage. General rule of thumb, carry at least one reload. 2 shot derringer or 17 round 9mm, doesn't matter.
  18. That has little to do with it. There are several reasons to need a reload that have nothing to do with running out of ammo.
  19. The correct answer is not to worry about stockpiling lots of ammo, but to have a gun in every caliber, that way you can shoot whatever ammo you find. See how often the simple answers elude us.
  20. Saw a big tom in full strut today.
  21. He's campaigning and nothing more. The media is compliciate because they can see what a mess their party is and the cast of clowns running. This time, next time, they're onboard.
  22. A good rule of thumb with modern cars, when they start acting wonky or running por, is to check the engine grounds.
  23. I have a Moultrie that has taken a thousand or so mediocre quality photos. One of them had a deer in it, one a coyote and one a house cat. All the others... zip. Nada. Nothing. I'll say one thing, it is sensitive. Every blade of grass that moves or leaf that quivers in the wind sets it off. It's useless for outdoor use.
  24. I haven't bought a new bow in 25 years, so I ask welcoming correction... since when?
