Started here 11 last night on and off all night. Lightning every 5-10 min..The thunder shook the house at times. Finally, 1 1/10" of rain. That's sure gonna help. They said best chance for severe weather in WNY is the southern tier today. Thunder and rain knocking on the door now.

Looks like the People in Pekin got Pounded by the Powerful storm. Tree on top of a car on the news a few minutes ago.

I am amazed that we didn't get more of a storm after seeing that radar. Man it looked really bad.

A bow echo is a radar echo associated with a severe thunder storm, those that produce wind damage. ( straight line, downdraft) It appear bent outward like a bow, thus the name. Get a little carried away from my college years of study. We got a very light version last night. A severe version hit us,traveled through the state, and hit the New York State fair on Labor Day eve, some years ago Several vortexes spun off of that system heading southeast .

Looks like damage reports are coming in from southern Chemung, southeasten Steuben and southern Tioga county, Broome county, southwestern Chenango. A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for NYC. Long Island, you're next for a watch. Rotation near Elmira, NY, trees down, roofs off buildings. Get to a safe place if your in line with these storms. Dangerous situration.

Looks like some nasty storms coming to my dad's place up in Sullivan based on the radar then down eventually to me...

FYI below:

... Severe thunderstorms expected this evening...

A line of severe thunderstorms is currently moving through central

New York and central Pennsylvania... and is on track to enter the

forecast area this evening. These storms have a history of

producing wind damage... and are not likely to weaken as they

approach the local area.

This line will first enter the lower Hudson Valley... northeast

New Jersey... and New York City between 5 PM and 6 PM... and will

move east into Connecticut and Long Island between 7 PM and 8 PM.

Additional thunderstorms will linger over the area through

midnight.

Severe thunderstorms are capable of damaging winds over 58 mph and

hail over 1 inch in diameter. Frequent and dangerous lightning

strikes are expected with these storms. Torrential rain with rates

between 1 and 2 inches per hour is likely... possibly producing

flash flooding over the area. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled

out.

Please stay advised for warnings that will be issued.

I was able to talk to her...Mr B took first call...well she didn't know where to go and was near Arnot Mall...saw the sears garage bay open and head there...barely got out of car and saved the door when the sheet rain went horizontal got inside Sears and hunkered down...well the mall got hit...tearing off part of Macy's roof and breaking windows....she was pretty scared...ppl all standing in the open door watching the storm and standing near windows...some laughing at her warnings....She lived in Tornado alley in Georgia...several times shared a closet with friends and pets and the College she taught at had tornado drills ...I guess Elmira got hit pretty hard...
