I couldn't care less how they're hung, but one thing did grab my attention on that post. "Right on que, as it started getting dark", is the one that grabbed my attention. We all know the sun sets well before it starts getting dark........

That caught my attention as well...

Disrepecting a dead animal, before you cut its hide off and chunk off the meat and either dump its carcass for the coyotes or toss is in the dumpster, are you kidding me? cONGRATS, Its your tag how ever you process it is your choice. There is nothing disrepectable in a good hunt and kill. If someone else cares to pray to the buffalo gods or light candle to their deer that fine too, I guess

I think im gonna start hugging my deer once they have passed on to deer heaven, so they know i meant no disrespect when i took its life. I may even invest in a swing like contraption so it can"sit" comfortably while i gently "process" it. Maybe i should take the " remnants " and bury a nice grave for the left over remains.... just a thought

Yeah but "as it started getting darker" in the woods i hunt i know that sun set is about 6:25pm now out in the field it is still light at that time, but when im hunting in my stand in the woods at this time of the year its really dark in there at about 5:45 with all the leaves still on the trees....any way, conrtatz to everyone hopefully soon ill have a pic on here.

I kinda agree with newbreeds comment. I hunted a creek bottom last night and it was definetly "getting dark" well before sunset. By about 6:15 i was thinking to myself that if a buck comes through, he better be close or i'll never see the twigs that might be in the way. Imo it quite often gets "darker" before the sun hits the horizon, especially if it's an overcast day and i just think it was a phrase. Kinda like when we say "last light".

i have also hunted in situations where in the woods it seems to bet getting darker before legal shooting time is out then when i make my way to the field its light as can be. Kind of funny how different areas or elevations can take away lighting. Past few hunts right around 6:20 - 6-30 seemed to be quiting time depending on the over cast...

When I am on stand/ blind I will usually stay put until I can't see. I like to be there sometimes just to see what's moving I would not and do not shoot deer after-hours/sunset.Do keep in mind it is legal to hunt after sunset just we cannot shoot a deer or bear.

you guys actually watch your watch ... seriously your telling me that if a 10 point buck walked in front of you at 6:27 two minutes after " legal shooting" you would let it walk? my ass you would !!

by the way congrats on all the deer shot keep the pictures coming nice checking in everynight to see if anyone shot something...

Sorry to change the subject but just got picture from a buddy who did my last mount. He just slayed a beast just outside Letchworth Park. Don't want to post pics til i get the OK or until he posts them himself and gets the due credit. Heard he stalked it and killed it. Its a good one, trust me..

Thanks guys. Im not even going to comment about the "as it was getting dark" thing. Leaves on all of the trees in thick swampy area's get dark before legal shooting time ends. Seriously?

Sorry surf but you just did comment. I think you are taking the phrase "getting dark" out of context. It's a phrase. No one is saying it IS DARK. It's getting dark. Just like when a thunderstorm rolls through you hear people sometmes say " it got really dark out". I really can't see how anyone can debate that it starts to get darker as the sun is hitting the horizon. Seriously. It is darker then it was 30 minutes before that is it not. ??

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

      Hey All,
New to the forum, already missing the deer season and have curiosity to quell. This was a great non-typical I was chasing all season in a bow-only area of Ithaca. Anyone know or hear of a non-typical of this caliber being killed? I'll be out scouting for him aggressively soon enough. Thanks!
      Nick

Hello folks. I'm a novice hunter from almost Central NY. I live amongst the cow fields about 20 minutes south of the ADK park. I'm here hoping that I can learn from those who know more than I do. That's probably most of you. LOL. This is my second season and so far I still have all of my tags. I have a rifle but I'm not comfortable shooting it in the area I hunt due to people being near. I'm hoping to fill at least one of my tags before Dec 19.
