But I haven't seen any action taken against Bloomberg's ridiculous limitations on the 5 round limitation and the ridiculous permit fees.

I haven't heard the NRA say a peep about the proposals that are virtually now law in Albany neither, has anyone else? I reckon they must be too busy counting the money the other fellas here sent them.

I do believe that that was what was behind the hi-balling of this legislation. They were afraid of letting the NRA get too organized, so they fired this legislation through without adequate public comment period and so quick that probably most of those that voted for it didn't even have a chance to understand what they were voting for. When is the last time anyone here has ever seen legislation move anywhere near that fast before. It just never happens unless they are trying to slip something over on the public. It shows the sneaky underhanded tactics that the Dems are willing to use when ever they want to screw the public.

They also know a lot of NY gun owners are too obtuse to support the NRA, so they don't give a rats azz what you think! If there were 5 million NRA members in NY, do you really think this would've ever happened? No friggin' way on earth. If you're not NRA, to elected officials, YOU'RE NOTHING!

Fortunately, the independently wealthy gun owners in NY state can just sell out of NY and head to a free state, like Wyoming or Montana, where gun owners have balls! I bid the rest of you Good Luck!

hey guys, had a facebook note from a friend.............." friend of mine called the NRA today and when he expressed his thoughts about the new NY gun ban they pretty much blew him off. Pass this around to all your NRA members on your friends list" dont know the validity of it............but scary as hell if true

Maybe he isn't a member, or his thoughts were mind numbingly monastic. If his house burned down, would he be upset that the firefighters won't rebuild it for him. The law passes and now he expects the NRA to do something? If most NY gun owners don't care about anti-gun laws, why would the NRA? God, the ineptitude of NY gun owners knows no limits.

This infighting is a non-productive waste of time.

I did my best. I have contacted my state legislators with letters and multiple calls, including Cuomo. Better yet I've inspired several friends to contact their legislators and a few that weren't members to join the NRA.

Now it's time to focus on the Federal situation by following up letters that I've mailed with phone calls and more letters. I will also continue to inspire my friends. That's what everyone should be doing. Whining because Wayne himself hasn't shown up to personally give you a hug is pitiful.

Your right there. When my 2 finish their masters they are heading south, followed by Mom and Dad. many retired guys from the job already left nys and more and more are talking about it. another guy on the job said this is the last straw, he's a big gun guy and fly fisherman, so he said montana when he retires.

So as more of us gun owning red staters head to one, well good luck with holding on to your "hunting" guns fellas.

Lets see now move down south save a few grand on property tax, pick a no state tax state as well, gun friendly and no snow !! Where is the down side ?

I haven't heard the NRA say a peep about the proposals that are virtually now law in Albany neither, has anyone else? I reckon they must be too busy counting the money the other fellas here sent them.

They released a statement yesterday stating

"The National Rifle Association and our New York members are outraged at the draconian gun control bill that was rushed through the process late Monday evening, and we will be considering all possible legal challenges in the near future."

So I believe they are looking at all their options and finding the most effective way to challenge this. There are so many things wrong with this law and the way things are written in it because it was thrown together so fast to get it pushed through that they have to read through the confusion and find all the ways to challenge it and then pick the best one and go from there.

While watching the live feed of the assembly yesterday there were a quite a few that stated that there a lot of things wrong in the legislation that needed to be fixed but they still voted to approve it. Now why would you approve something that you openly admit that it isn't right other than you know it is the only chance you are gonna get to accomplish your personal agenda.

Life membership for a short time is $300 and I think from what I have been reading it is retro active for the people that recently signed up as well.

Longisland firearms dot com forum has a current topic on it. Anyone know if this is in fact current?

EDIT: I'm seeing $600 if you do it on your own and $300 with a LT sponsor?

they sure did a lot to help out us new yorkers. I will not be renewing my membership this year.

That wouldn't be smart. The fight begins AFTER the attack. The NRA defends, it can't take a position of offense, since it can not fight what hasn't attack firearms owners first. Now is when we need to show a united front. To quit now plays into the hands of the NY Legislature and the anti-gun agenda. I hope you reconsider that decision.

New York: Governor Andrew Cuomo Seizes Your Gun Rights Overnight with Secret Deals, Procedural Shortcuts and Midnight Votes in Albany

line.gif

Public Input Prevented on Gun Control Debate to Advance Agenda and Political Career

Governor Andrew Cuomo, in stunningly brazen fashion, took a hatchet to gun rights in New York with lightning speed. By cutting secret deals behind closed doors, eliminating public input and circumventing normal legislative processes, the Governor and state Senate passed sweeping anti-gun measures just before the stroke of midnight yesterday. Within 24 hours, Cuomo had his new gun control laws. Cuomo utilized a rarely-used executive trick, a "message of necessity" to bypass normal legislative procedures that are strictly followed on hundreds of bills each legislative session. Late last night as the clock approached midnight, the public was introduced to

S. 2230,a hastily drafted bill that includes bans on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms and magazines, registration, and restrictions on ammunition purchases. This bill was released to legislators a scant twenty minutes prior to the Senate vote and quickly passed without proper vetting, committee consideration and debate, as previously reported on here.

Today, S. 2230 faced the state Assembly where it passed by a 104 to 43 vote and was signed into law by the Governor within an hour of its passage, taking immediate effect. During Assembly debate, it became obvious that the haste with which the bill was drafted and passed resulted in innumerable errors and flaws, damaging gun owners even worse than bill authors probably intended. The NRA-ILA lobbyist spent several days in Albany meeting with lawmakers, but this deal was quickly and quietly being forged behind closed doors. Lawmakers from both political parties were even critical of the process in which Cuomo guaranteed only one outcome would prevail.

Prior to this outrageous and undemocratic action, New York already had some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, and they have proven to be failures. When each of New York’s gun laws was enacted, politicians promised it would fix the crime problem. Years later, it is clear that they did not, yet anti-gun lawmakers want more of the same laws. Gun control has not worked because criminals, by definition, do not obey the law. Like previous gun control attempts, S.2230 focuses only on law-abiding gun owners and will do nothing to address public safety or crime.

S.2230 expands the state's existing pseudo (semi-auto) "assault weapons" ban by outlawing pre-ban firearms, unless they are registered. This new state law also expands what is now considered an “assault weapon” and goes beyond the expired federal law. This statute also lowers New York's magazine capacity limit from ten rounds to seven. You can possess magazines capable of holding more than ten for one year, but you cannot sell or transfer them to anyone living in New York. State residents have one year from enactment to transfer or surrender them. Incredibly, S.2230 will also require background checks on ammunition purchases and prohibit online sales of both firearms and ammunition. It also includes universal background checks on all firearms transfers with certain exemptions for immediate family. S.2230 also requires mental health practitioners to report if someone is a threat to himself or others (without requiring an adjudication) and such person must surrender their gun. These failed gun control ideas will not address crime, but today Cuomo and his accomplices did irreparable damage to the constitutional rights of New Yorkers.

In his recent state of the state address, Cuomo made it clear that passing gun control would be the first major issue of the 2013 legislative session. He seized the opportunity to exploit tragedy and put his own personal politics ahead of sound public policy. Your governing officials resorted to deception, secrecy and procedural gamesmanship because they were too afraid to let gun owners make their voices heard. In the short time this issue was before the state Legislature, hundreds of phone calls and e-mails flooded the Capitol. The politicians might be able to sidestep gun owners now, but the next election will be a different story.

This legislation is still less than 24 hours old, and it contains many complex details and nuances that were secretly withheld from public view. NRA-ILA’s legal staff will continue to examine this new law and determine if future litigation may be appropriate. As we challenge these new laws, we will continue to report to our members, so please stay tuned and continue to visit www.nraila.org.

The NRA is not Exon/Mobil or Apple. They are the largest citizens group in the country. The power resides with us. The NRA alerted its members before this bill was voted on. If the members and non-members did not react and write their legislators as needed then you can't blame the NRA. Wake up already.

I have news for you, there are what 60 million or more gun owners in this country? Why are there only 4 million or so NRA members then? Yeah, I'm sure you guys will say that they are all copouts, but have you ever thought that the majority of them aren't as passionate about guns as you guys are OR they just don't buy into everything the NRA says and does?? So if you can't figure it out yourself, I am NOT the only one who is against you here. You fellas with extreme stances on guns are in the minority any way you want to slice this, and will not be even close to breaking even in numbers with the other side anytime soon. I know you fellas paint anyone a bleeding heart liberal who would dare point such a thing out on a hunting forum, but so be it. If you can't figure it out for yourselves, that surely isn't my problem then.

The answer is Apathy and Ignorance.. the greatest killer of all things important in America... the same reason that only a third of the eligible voters make it to the polls to vote... the same reason that only a handful of members of any club usually do the work of the whole club. Its the human condition and not a good criteria for the effectiveness of the organization... and I bet you can't name another organization in America with 4.25 million members... as for being in the minority... seems to me like the trend as of late is that the minorities get what ever they want if they scream loud enough.. and I promise you .. the NRA and it's members will be screaming loud.
