Roadkill deer

A guy that I work part time for sometimes said he was on Rt 251 last week and saw 3 dead deer between Rt 64 and Rt 65 on Route 251 . This seems abnormal for this time of the year . What's going on ? Any ideas ?

i saw 2 dead on the road as well so far... not sure if it is coinsidence or a pre season of the sort.

I saw a couple road kill between Henrietta and East Avon Saturday on Rt 390 where it is somewhat common to see many . I was surprised to hear of high hits in a short stretch on Rt 251 .

i have seen an unusual amount of road kill deer in the last couple months also down in lower Ulster. i think deer numbers are growing.

Throughout the summer, I have noted a high number of deer being hit on the highways. My guess would be that it merely indicates a higher level of population. There should not be anything that I'm aware of that is going on in the deer world that would cause increased movement.

I have a 50 mile commute to work each way and I don't recall seeing any deer hit recently. I also went to Naples over the weekend (another 35+ mile trip) and didn't see any either.

Theres been lots of roadkill deer around here lately, not just on that stretch. The weather has been cooling down, fields are being harvested and the deer are moving.

Thanks . I have seen a couple of road kill deer on 104 this month which is rather low . It just seemed a bit high of a count on a short distance on Rt 251 .

Usually it's up when the rut is on and the doe are trying to get away or the blood isn't rushing to the buck's brain .

I have seen struck deer too the last few weeks. I know it is too early for an pre rutting but I think it has to do with th bachelor groups breaking up . I have noticed on the land I hunt....the groups are broken up and if I see more than one buck they are almost identical  to each other. I think the little guys are looking for their own range.

I saw a lot of road kills in the spring this year.We went up state ever week end and saw at least 4 deer on rt17.Seems to have slowed way down now.

I was on Rt 251 this am and saw 3 dead roadkill doe between Buzz Sawmill and Oldbrook Trail . Less than a two mile stretch .

I know that stretch very well, lots of deer cross in that area each year. Mendon Ponds Park is right up Bullsaw Mill Rd from there.

I have seen some definite chasing activity already from at least one of the bucks, so I'm sure some of the increased car/deer collisions are coming from that activity.

I counted 17 dead on a 4 mile stretch of road this morning,a few in pairs.

And a few with thier heads missing............

I have seen more popping up the last few days. I have heard from people that work for the towns around here that they are saving money by not picking up the carcasses anymore. The coyotes are gonna boom in population if they keep that policy.
