What would law enforcement know about what will happen with legislative issues and why would they let hunters safety instructors know about anything?

as instructors we need to know what is legal and what is illegal so we can pass it on to our class

also the cross bow is not allowed to be used during the bow season and only durning the gun season so they let us know about it so we can teach it in our class

I am always getting information about hunting and the laws of New York from D.E.C. hunter education

Just checked my email and found this:

The Senate Environmental Committee approved S1699A this morning. It now moves to the Finance Committee for their review prior to the floor vote. Thank you to everyone for making calls and sending letters on behalf of this, it really does make a difference. I will let everyone know when this is placed on the Finance Committee agenda.

Best Regards, Rick McDermott

Actually, at this point crossbows arent legal in ANY season in NY. From the looks of it, they will more than likely be allowed in any season shortly though. Its right in DEC's 5 year plan, and they now have the power to regulate them. You should be getting your info from DEC regs not law enforcement.

DEC wants them in all seasons. Id put money on it happening.

I hope you are right.

I just got approved to hunt CT archery season with my Xbow. Season starts 9/16. Being able to hunt NY starting 10/1 would be nice too!

And chances are, they'd need that go ahead to do so before the booklets are printed. I doubt they would act after the booklets are printed. Usually that's around the end of May.

If it is passed, I bet we'll see similar allowance as last year, and then full inclusion next season.

The first time they included crossbows was after the books were printed. Remember the printed certificate thing you got from the web site? Once DEC has the power to regulate them, it wont take long at all for them to add them. A month and a half from now probably wouldnt be hard for them to accomplish. We will see I guess.
