Hackers...

I get them too. What hackers do is just send a spam message out that looks legit. With a link, saying you need to change you password. So just think if they send out 100,000 spam emails and just 1 percent click on the link, that is 1000 people's account information they will get. Then the hackers, have a new account to send there spam from or to do other things.

I hope you didn't click on the link. I would go directly to the google website and sign in to change your password.

what he said. most likely your "hacker email" was a hacker. easiest way to check is when you hover over the hyperlink it'll not be a google website.

My fiance got the same email but it was referencing her Yahoo account a couple of weeks ago. She clicked the link and ended up handing them her password. Everyone on her address lsit started getting spam. She had to go through and change her password again. Id bet that email you got is bogus.

The rule of thumb to avoid this happening is - If you don't know what the message is about or it looks even remotely suspicious, DELETE it without opening the email. Go online and log in to your account on the site referenced. There should  be a message or notification that there might be a problem if it is legit. I got one regarding my Yahoo user's group account similiar to what you described Deleted it!

More dangerous are the emails that reference the same password change or account notifications for those of you with PayPal. This hacking can get your bank account info!!!! Email had semi-official looking PayPal letterhead and logo. Haven't seen this lately, but was pretty prevelant a few years ago. Bewarned, this is a financial idenity theft disaster just waiting to happen!

Here's another senerio that happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't getting any emails for a couple of days, which was unusual. What happened was my IP provider (T-W Roadrunner) email was hacked and all my emails were being forwarded to another account unknown to me. Needless to say there was a heated discussion with T-W customer rep and a lot of finger pointing regading whose problem it was. In the end, I hadn't logged in to their site's email in several years so I couldn't have changed that forwarding option myself.

Earlier this year I got hacked, well maybe I should say I gave them my info on a silver platter. It was a bogus email that looked so damned official that they sucked me in and I gave them everything but the combo to my gun safe...........

What a nightmare, it took a couple days to get it all back to square one. A bunch of my friends got the email saying I was in jail in some Podunk country and I needed bail money.

Pizzez me off when I think about it.............
