Stealth Cams

Recommended Posts

No more Stealth Cams for me .

I have a STC-WD1 camera that does absolutely nothing when fresh batteries are installed .

I have 2 STC-I430IR cameras that have gone into an 8888 mode when the camera is on and even when it is off . I have taken the batteries out and replaced and it still does it . Cannot get the screen to go blank when the units are turned off .

It really sucks when you have a camera set up 50 miles away and check it out to find out it's crap !

If I can't get any help from the Stealth Camera HELP line I may take all 3 cameras to the range and use them for target practice . What a disappointment ! +

hmmm... take the batteres out...  locate the backup battery (the one that makes it so you dont have to reset the date/time everytime you change cam batteries(( http://www.pedometersusa.com/battery-ag13.html?productid=battery-ag13&channelid=FROOG&utm_source=CSEs&utm_medium=GoogleShopping&utm_campaign=PedometersUSA )))... remove it... leave disconnected from all power sources for at least a couple hours... that "should" reset it... I dont know what else you could try... (my spypoint froze one time, i took the card out without powering down the cam first and when i inserted it again it would just say that the card was full even tho it was empty till i tried this fix... i came up with this on my own after about 20 min of frustration!!! lol) you will need to reset the date/time then...

Eddie, I had the exact same thing happen to my last Stealth. Eventually the digital display began to vanish one line at a time.

8's start to look like 3's....0's start to look like C's...etc,etc..

You can probably guess what happened next.

I'm not a brand basher per say, because usually all brand lines have a good cam or two from time to time. But, having said that...Stealth has not been a reliable manufacturer. I realyl don't know how they stay in business.

I have a Stealth I430IR which works as well as my Moultrie 40's.  It's got to be going on 7 years old and still kicking.  The only gripe with the Stealth really, is it likes C batteries. Got the external battery pack which took care of that issue. Paid for itself.  I'd buy another for the right deal. I believe it displays are 8,s with first fire up, then goes to normal display. Could be a simple cure to repair Eddie.

I have had excellent luck with the Moultrie , Primos , and WildGame cameras . I have a couple of old Wild View cameras that work but are battery eaters .

But , 3 out of 3 Stealth Cams will not function ! I might try the shotgun on the Stealth Cams  ..... I gotta call their Help line and see what they say but I have a Wake to go to today and a Funeral t5o attend tomorrow .

Swtich to cams with AA batteries...plenty of them out there and more reliable than Stealth.

BTC, Primos Ultra Series, Covert...all way higher on the list than Stealth. Certainly not infallable, but near as likely as being DOA.

Its prob case there so cheap that ppl buy them trying to save money...

I called the Help line this am and the Tech Rep gave me a lot of info that didn't work .

1) He said remove the batteries and turn the camera on and that should restart the camera ........ no way .

2) Turn on the camera , go to Menu , take a couple pics on the Internal Memory and then clear it ..... no way !

3) Don't use a SD card larger than a 2 GB and one that is formatted in the Stealth Cam and has not been used in anything else .

I tried both and so far I cannot get the camera to turn off and clear . I will play with it again when I get home tomorrow night .

if its not turning off it shows it still is getting power from somewhere... remove that power source...

The Tech guy said it is supposed to get power in order to do the reset . The way that tiny battery is in the cam , you would pretty much be taking a chance on pulling wires loose the get it out . I don't think they are worth enough money to waste too much time on them . I think I learned a lesson with the Stealth's !!!!

I can't say enough how much I like my covert DLC cams. They are great and affordable. The A-5 is super affordable at 70-75$ and performs well. I have the mp6 and like it. I prefer to buy the older models like the primos DLC I picked up at dicks for $40 on sale, and the moultrie L-50 which you can get for $50. They do the job and if some scum steals them I won't be so mad as to hunt down every person I see in the woods. Check out wingsupply frequently for nice sales, and they often offer 10-15% off with codes I find on chasingame forums

I am confused, is the A-5 a Covert cam? Never heard of Primos DLC.

Covert does indeed make a good cam.

The primos DLC automatically takes pics every "x" seconds. I set it to 10. But it's mainly for situations that you want to watch large areas and can't rely on getting the sensor to trigger. Like a field. Not sure how well it will work but for $40 when originally !$100 I couldn't pass it up.
