virgil
I went upstate this weekend to try out the quad and do some prep for the season. I hadn't been up there since May. When I went up in May, someone had pushed in the front door. They looked around and left without destroying the place. Luckily, I don't leave anything of value up there. So, I put a double keyed dead bolt in the door to prevent another break-in. This time, when I got up there I found the same thing- someone had broken in and searched the place. The back window was broken- they couldn't get through the dead bolt, so they broke a window. To get out, they must have had to climb back out through the broken window. I hope they cut themselves up in the process. I cut up some scrap lumber and covered the broken paine. It really makes me sad to think that I've been broken into twice in the past six months. I'm afraid that the next person that breaks in will destroy the place out of spite.
Cabin Fever
Time for some cams to catch the scum! Would be great to have a cam like phades and have it text you pics as the scum is in there, so you could call the cops, and get him red handed! ants
Thats the problem with remote places like that. These little s!#t stains know that they pretty much have free reign. The cams might be a good idea. Good luck. I hope that at least the ATV ran good.
Culvercreek hunt club
Sorry to hear that Virgil. I agree with Cabin. Time for some action. I am about 2 1/2 hors from our lease and while we have been very lucky so far I often think it is jsut a matter of time. I know they are expensive but I am considering the trail cam that emails you the pics so even if they grab the camera you have their picture. virgil
The ATV ran great, thanks. Sure made it a lot easier going up and down the mountain with all that gear. As far as using cameras, I'm not sure it'll do me any good. My cabin is really small (14'x14') and should only take a minute or two for someone to realize they're wasting their time. Even if I did get an email alert, I doubt that police would get there quick enough to catch anyone. Maybe if the intruders decided to stick around for a while- but, I doubt that would happen. I'm thinking that I'm gonna have to start boarding up the windows. I do feel lucky that the two breakins haven't led to the place getting trashed. But, it's a real bummer to see that there is such a lack of respect from some people.
SplitG2
I had my place broken into twice but did call the state police. They stopped my house atleast once a night to check it for a couple of months. Since than i got a alarm installed and installed trail cam cams in the house. The bottom line is, if someone once to get in they will! It sucks!
ants
Are there curtains on the windows? Maybe if they were able to look inside and see that there is nothing for them to steal, they might just move on.
GreeneHunter
Trail Cams !!!!!
covert
Or if there's nothing valuable in there anyway just leave the door unlocked? If they can just walk right in and out at least they would'nt have to break anything.
sits in trees
Alarm system, Alarm system, Alarm system! Can I be any clearer, Wait I'll try again "Alarm system" Call ADT or whomever and go with a basic door and motion sensor setup with monitoring. Get signs and stickers and put them everywhere. Add a video surveillance sign and a phony camera. Might cost a few hundred but it will make them go to the house next door, you'll be too much of a bother. Then you can drive home and not worry about punks and freaks without teeth wandering about in YOUR HOME. Your welcome. ctballos
If the state of ny wants to publish your gun inventory as part of the safe act then they are responsible for the damages. Show me a court that doesn't place the blame where it lies.
cdmckane
I'm local to the area, I can keep an eye on it for ya if you want. Just PM me the location. Won't be able to prevent damages, but the more eyes on the place, the sooner damages will be noticed and authorities notified.
boo711
My brother has a place up on tug hill. He has talked to some deputies in the sheriffs dept. They drive by there daily so they stop and check it out if they see anyone there. Might be a good idea to get to know the local law enforcement. It will not hurt that is for sure
